16th Birthday
"Happy birthday girle " said Elizabeth as she jumps on her friend.
" You know you seem more excited about my birthday than I am" replied spring as she places her book back into her locker and shut the door.
" Yes , that why I am your best friend " Elizabeth smiles widely as they walk to their next class.
Taking their seat close to each other as usual Elizabeth asked " Any plan for your birthday"
" Nope, you know my mum will never let me hold a party or anything and I have to be home early today for our family tea time " spring explains.
" Hmm , what is with the family tea time " Elizabeth asked still not satisfied with her excuse.
"It's something we do every time on my birthday , don't know why but grandma pim pim made it a family ritual" spring further explain.
"Oh" Elizabeth sighs , dipping her hand into her bag she pulls out two regular tickets to a musical concert " too bad I went through hell to get us these tickets" she waves them in the air before they were snatched by spring.
"These are tickets to this year musical concert " spring said nearly screaming " how did you ... They sold out weeks back" she asked
" Well let's say I have my ways " Elizabeth blushed feeling special. Suddenly remember ing what spring said earlier"well I guess we can't go since you already have plans with your family " she said
" Are you kidding me, I will break every of my mum rules just to be at this concert" spring replied smiling as she put one ticket in her bag and hands the other to her friend just before the teacher comes in . The class went on for few hours before the bell rang signifying a change of class.
They spent the rest hours deciding the outfit for the concert , Elizabeth wanted a dress that would make them stand out and not look like high school girls sneaking out with out their mom's permission.
She offered to lend spring one of her dress to which spring didn't object seeing that she doesn't have a suitable clothe for the evening.
After deciding where they would meet , since they couldnt meet at spring house her mum wouldnt allow it and Elizabeth house was far. they said their good byes and went home to prepare.
Opening the door and taking of her shoes to change into her rabbit slippers spring is greeted by the smell of cake in the oven and a smiling face of her grandmother.
"Some one seems excited about her birthday" grandma pim pim teased
"Hello grandma" spring walks into the kitchen and hugs her grandmother from behind.
"You are home early" her grandmother questioned
"Yeah, so excited about tonight " she replied in a glee.
Not completely buying her answer grandma pim pim asked" oh really"
Dipping her hands in the bowl of chocolate grandma pim pim had just place on the counter and licking it she smiles " yes, I mean it family night"
" It's a good you are more excited about family tea time and not planning on ditching it " grandma pim pim said causing spring to
Smile sheepishly being that she had originally planned to ditch it by faking a clod. Dropping her bag on the counter and clapping her hands " So needed a helping hand" she asked .
"A tasting hand you mean " her grandma teased again this time causing them both to laugh. Before they dived into chopping the vegetables for the salad , one of the dishes spring enjoys alot, after adding the cream to it she covers it and places it in the fridge before she starts to squeeze the fresh fruit grandma pim pim had picked out for her, it's her birthday so everything had to be freshly made , that is grandma pim tradition.for the first time cooking didn't seem like stress to spring she enjoyed every bit of the process, singing and dancing as they work .she was engrossed in the whole process that she didn't notice they were almost done " Well I guess that will be all for now" grandma pim pim said looking at all they had done, satisfied by what she saw she nodded .
"You should go and wash up your mum should be home any minute" grandma pim pim said.
Not happy about her mother's arrival spring nods and made her way to her room, which is the only room upstairs , she walks in shuts her door and lay on her bed facing the ceiling. As mix emotions clouds her mind. Who couldn't have thought mentioning her mom could damp her mood so badly.
Her mother was the only parents she knows though they were never really the type to see eye to eye , her mother blamed her for something she knew nothing about , over the years every year on her birthday she would wish for her dad but as time passed she knew that wish wasn't going to come to pass. This year she wanted it to be different,she would only wish to find herself. Distracting her waves of thoughts a notification sound from her phone , she picks it up it was a Snapchat message from a contact she had saved with emojis it was Elizabeth.
super excited about tonight.ps.see you soon.she could only smile , Elizabeth is among the few people she holds dear.
Locking her phone screen she walks into the bathroom to have her long awaited shower which was cut short as soon as she started grandma pim pim asked that she come down for dinner, also announcing the presence of her mother .
She made her way down stairs in her nightie and her wet dark hair one could tell she had just taken her bath.
"Come ,sit honey"grand ma pim pim said annoucing her presence.
"hi mum" spring said intending to greet her mum who had refused to acknowledge her presence since she stepped in.
"Hi mum, is that how kids these days greet their parents" her mom said after taking a sip from her coffee mug
"Cut , her some slag dear, there are no traditional ways for One to greet their parents" grandma pim pim answered coming to her rescue as always.
She Picks up a plate filled with vegetables, and hands it over to spring "this is for you" she said. Smiling happy like a mother doting over her child.
"Grandma, there are lots of dishes I want to try first , these veggies will only fill me up" spring whine like a child that she was.
Causing her grandmother to chuckle "I promise you can have another food once you finish your vegetables" she said and gestures her to eat up
