Chapter 39 : Lucas, Oliver, and Mila

I tossed the trash into the dumpster out behind the clinic, and took a moment to wipe the sweat from my brow with a forearm. Even though the air carried a sharp chill, I had gone outside without a jacket. The cold air felt great. I held my arms up so it could cool off my armpits, too.

Ashley came outside to join me, lugging her own bag of trash. I opened the corral for her.

“Thanks.”

She tossed her bag into the bin and then turned to me, wide-eyed and panting.

“Good grief, have we ever been this busy before? I thought today would never end.”

“It’s the weather. Everyone tried to make their appointments this week because of the big storm that’s supposedly coming.”

Ashley took hold of her shirt below the collar and tugged it out, waving air down her front.

“I don’t know why everyone’s freaking out. It’s Montana. It’s going to snow in the winter.”

“I don’t know, Ashley. I heard this is some kind of Storm of the Century type of situation.”
