"Let's see… given how much food I ate and how long I lasted without feeling hungry. I would say that I will need to eat again in four hours. I suppose monsters' bodies aren't that efficient since I have to eat monsters bigger than myself every four hours..."

After eating the bat, he would have to work even harder to hunt. Kane concluded that. Considering the energy he had spent to kill the monster, he probably would only have three and a half hours. So, he didn't waste time and resumed his exploration of the east side of the dungeon.

(Congratulations! You survived for one hour. You received one reincarnation point.") (x4)

In the end, Kane just had to walk for four hours before he finally reached the south side of the dungeon. As expected, he walked quite fast since the monsters were running away from him. Regardless, he didn't find the exit of the dungeon on the east side… but as soon as he reached the south side, he saw other Bloody Ant eggs.

"So, they really spawn on the south side of the dungeon… This kind of information doesn't help me all that much. Now what? I doubt that I will find the exit on this side of the dungeon… but at the very least, I will probably find some monsters preying on the eggs. I will kill the monsters that attack the eggs and eat them to store some energy."

Although Kane had a human mind, and he couldn't say that he would belong to a single species of monster for long, he didn't want to cross the line and eat the monsters of the same species. Considering the things the system has done so far, he would probably receive a reward for doing something so despicable. However, he would never commit cannibalism… he would rather die of hunger.

In any case, finding the exit of the dungeon in the middle of it would be pretty hard, and since Kane was quite tired after walking for so long, he decided to eat one or two bats before taking a nap. He didn't know what he would find in the middle of that dungeon, so he had to prepare himself accordingly.

In the end, he only had to run at his top speed for a few minutes to find some bats in the middle of a meal. As expected, it was relatively easy to find some prey when they were eating. It was one of the only moments they would lower their guards, after all.

Without a hint of hesitation, Kane killed the bats and ate them. Although he got stronger and monsters would always run away from him, Kane still hesitated a little bit in sleeping in the open. So, he created a small hole in the walls and closed a good part of it with sand. Despite that, Kane barely managed to relax. Dying while sleeping was kind of scary… so every ten or so minutes, he would wake up.

"I guess that only means that I didn't become arrogant… that is good. Still, this is just too damn nerve-wracking."

It was quite weird to get arrogant by a power that he didn't fully deserve. Sure, Kane fought and died several times, but it was because he died several times that he didn't think he deserved any of those powers. It was clear that he just became a pawn in someone else's game with that system, so Kane couldn't let himself become arrogant… otherwise, he would end up becoming a puppet.

Regardless, Kane began to hunt some bats again after he woke up. Exploring the extremities of the dungeon was easy, but finding the exit in the middle wouldn't. So, he needed to stock a lot of energy. He couldn't tell what or who he might find while looking for the exit, so that he couldn't prepare any plans. The only thing he could really do was: stock up on energy.

In the end, Kane hunted for a full day; despite that, he only found a few bats. The population of monsters there wasn't that big, after all. Regardless, that would benefit him, but since he was in a hurry, Kane decided not to level up before exploring the center of the dungeon.

"I'm about to level up… but since I don't know when or if I will find the exit of this place, I can't take my sweet time here. No, even though I didn't find humans so far, I found their footsteps. So, there is definitely a place that I can use to exit his hellhole."

Although it was weird, Kane was starting to think that the monster system wasn't made to let the monsters survive that long. The fact that a spider could evolve in such a place was one of the things that made him think that. Given that Kane managed to damage that spider before it could evolve, it was clear that the difference in levels wasn't that high. So, most likely, monsters could evolve after reaching level ten. Still, it was weird, given that the amount of experience Kane needed to level up wasn't increasing that much. The amount of experience obtained would decrease if the prey were too weak, but even so, by working hard, Kane was pretty sure he could reach level ten in less than ten days.

"That spider was the only monster that really caused me some headaches, after all. So, that thing was a point out of the curve… the exception to that rule. I guess I also am an exception, but I didn't live that long as a Bloody Ant yet to reach the same level."

All that was just hypothetical, but given that slimes spawned in front of humans and ant eggs could be eaten that easily, he couldn't avoid but start to think that. It was hard to be sure, given that he only knew a few things, but Kane was also beginning to wonder if the goal of that system was just to strengthen the humans of that world. The humans probably worked in a different system, but even so…
