21 Apex Predator (2)

Just to be sure, Kane only left the ceiling after a few minutes. Considering his size, some stamina had to be used for him to stay there, but it was still kind of surprising that the spider didn't notice him.

"That thing doesn't have a human mind… if one human were there, it wouldn't miss such an obvious place to hide."

Regardless, Kane jumped from the stalactite and landed without making any noise. After that, he headed in the opposite direction of the spider. If monsters could evolve like that, then it wasn't a good idea to create a hideout near their nests. In fact, it wasn't a good idea to spend time waiting for enemies to appear. Kane would have to use the energy he obtained by eating them, looking for other monsters. Eventually, he would be forced to rest, but for the time being, it would take quite a while for him to find a good and quiet place.

"The best place to hide would be where the bats spawn…, but now that I think about it, they don't spawn in a single place. It would be too easy for their predators if they spawn in a single place at fixed intervals."

Kane was almost one hundred percent sure that humans wouldn't reincarnate as bats. At least the bats he faced so far were pretty dumb. If he were one, he wouldn't shriek every ten meters and alert his targets. Besides, the amount of time that passed since Earth was destroyed wasn't that long, so it would be weird if someone had lived as a slime, bloody ant and now was a giant bat.

(Congratulations! You survived for one hour. You received one reincarnation point.")

Soon after he received that notification, Kane found another group of ant eggs being eaten by two bats. He couldn't help but wonder who was the stupid and who was lying eggs in such plain sight. If anything, that was just a free meal for bats… Regardless, after confirming that there were no other enemies nearby, Kane charged forward at full speed and attacked both bats. Since he had allocated another three points in speed, his charge surprised even himself. The body slam, Steel Claws, and a single Bloody Bite had been enough to kill one of the bats instantly, and Kane even had time to cut off the wings of another.

(Congratulations! You killed an enemy. You received two reincarnation points.")

"They were probably level one bats… I doubt that I could level up by eating monster eggs. Those monsters truly are stupid... Still, even if I could, there is no point in eating the eggs of my species... if anything, that would really make me feel uncomfortable."

Although he said that, Kane just picked a fight with an enemy that was behaving weirdly, so it was evident that he wasn't much better. In any case, even though it wasn't his intention, he managed to save three of the ant eggs. It was impossible to know if humans would come from those, but Kane at least decided to dig a light hole and hide them. Even newborn ants would be able to dig that much.

"If they weren't humans, at least they would serve as a good bait for other monsters."

After getting rid of the bats' bones, Kane started to move again while he was saying to himself, 'Movement is life.' His enemies weren't running zombies, but they liked to bite others in the same manner.

Barely one hour had passed since Kane had escaped from the clutches of that evolved spider when he found another one… also well-protect by several layers of thread. That one also was on a dead-end, but it hadn't evolved yet. However, Kane still could see some snacks enveloped in lines.

"I don't need more spiders as enemies, so it is time to leave."

What happens once, it happens twice. Although Kane really wanted to unlock a monster that could evolve to become even more powerful and deadly, he wouldn't unlock anything by dying. Until he obtains more information about spiders, it is in his best interest to avoid them altogether.

"Bats are plenty here, so I don't need to take so many risks for the time being… Still, if I learned something until now is that things will never go as planned."

Considering how much punishment a single spider could take, it wasn't like Kane had any other option. Still, it was kind of weird. Bloody Ants and Bats had more or less the same level of power, so why were spiders so much stronger? Considering that slimes spawned in the same place where humans could hunt them with ease, Kane couldn't hope for much in that world. Even so, some balance was to be expected.

After walking for a while, Kane found another intersection. Again, Kane had three options, so things were really getting even more puzzling in his head. Trying to imagine in which part of the dungeon he was was impossible.

"I don't see how useful monsters can be in terms of materials, but if this is a low-level dungeon, I'm bound to find some humans, and unless they were dead-brain, they must have a map."

Dealing with the humans of that world really was a pain, but it looked like they would be Kane's ticket to leave that place. However, even after walking for several hours, he didn't find a single trace of them. Considering that Kane didn't find a single bat, spider, or ant when he was a slime, it was hard to believe that it was an abandoned dungeon, but he couldn't discard that possibility.

"Anyway, at least I'm now faster than most bats and even the evolved spiders… So, it is time to increase my overall damage. Unless I get lucky and find the exit by accident, I will only have enough peace to map this place once I'm strong enough to deal with that evolved spider. I guess being able to defeat the spiders that use thread to protect themselves and capture enemies is also a requirement for that."

For the time being, Kane still could get quite a lot of experience by hunting bats. Still, eventually, the amount of experience he would obtain from that would decrease. He could only hope that he would be able to raise his strength as soon as possible and before he was forced to deal with those spiders.
