What the hell was that?

It was dark outside when she finally reached her house. 

Another day had passed by, searching for clues for the other Linked inside the city of Kansas. Most of her search was hopeless. And she took the risk of saving that intern from death… which she slightly regretted. 

She strolled across the corridor dimly lit with flickering lights. Graffiti was drawn on every inch of the wall. Cats crawled on the parapets. Even some rats ran across the floors into the apartments through the small holes in the doors. 

"AH! FUCK! YEAH~" 

The door of her neighbor's house was about to break open because the woman living there was being banged against it. 

She had noisy neighbors. 

Yuna pushed the key into the door hastily. Just as she opened the door, she threw the bag onto the couch covered with her underwear and empty bags of chips. 

She made her way to the kitchen as she slid out of her sweater. 

"That was… quite a day." 

Her fingers automatically reached the electric kettle and she switched it on. Then, she slowly took off her skirt until she was only dressed in her lingerie. She had no need for the bra either. 

The lighter, the better. 

Like every other day, she strolled into the bathroom and switched on the tap. She washed her mouth with a handful of water and grasped her brush. 

She always brushed her teeth before the shower. 

As she gazed at herself in the mirror while brushing her teeth, she felt the magical force making the air behind her waver. He was coming. 

Grrr…. 

In the reflection of the mirror, she saw it appear right behind her. 

A gigantic dark and scaly dragon-like head appeared from the wavering walls, simply passing through the brick wall like a ghost. It snorted, blowing away the girl's hair with the sheer power of the snort. 

"What the hell was that?" 

A cold, growling, demon-like voice resonated within the bathroom. 

Yuna was expecting this very much, so she wasn't surprised at all. 

She spat on the sink. 

"What was what?" 

"You know what. The fucking kiss, Yuna," the dragon-like head growled. 

"Mmm…" she continued to brush her teeth, ignoring her Monster's fury. "Yeah, about that.." she spoke, her cheeks filled with toothpaste. 

"Pthu… yeah, I kind of regret that?" 

The monster sighed. "Be more careful, you idiot. Don't let your teenage horniness get the better of you, or our dream to take back our world is over. You hear me?" 

Yuna splashed her face with the water and washed her mouth. "Yeah. I hear you, Dark." 

Her Monster's name was Dark. She and the dark dragon-like creature were better known as the "Black Lizard." 

"Still… After the kiss, what would the boy do? Has he texted you from your number?" Dark asked her. 

"No, not yet," Yuna replied. "But can you believe it? The Butterfly essence was poison after all, huh, Dark? I don't know who the Butterfly is… but she or he is very frightening." 

Dark gritted its teeth that looked as if they were a set of sharpened blades. "What do you mean frightening? We're frightening. And poison… poison isn't very manly to do. I think the Butterfly is a woman. At least her Monster Link is." 

Yuna splashed some water on her face and shifted her head to the shower. She gradually slid her lingerie down her fat thighs and kept it on the edge of the sink. The Monster gazed at his human companion as she stepped into the shower. 

They were not the same species. But once the Monster Link happens, the bond between the Monster and a human is no less than the strongest bond between siblings in the world. 

They did not keep any secrets from each other. Simply put… they couldn't. Their minds were connected. 

Yuna turned the shower on and let the cool water wash her dirty body. 

The Black Lizard crawled up next to the curtains of the shower and asked, "Why did you do it? He was an intern at the Monster Hunter Society. Which means he's a future enemy." 

Yuna scowled, pondering about the thought. 

"But he was still an intern. He had no clue of how we are born, what we are here to do, and what we really are. Only the ones at the top know what they do to us Monster Links, even when we are humans. He is not to blame for their crimes." 

"If he texts you now, will you reply?" 

Yuna stood there in the shower in silence. She remembered how she felt shy when their lips met.

"I never thought I'd be kissing a guy for the first time to not let him die from Butterfly essence," she told herself, looking down at the shower water rinsing down the drain. 

"Always expect the unexpected, Yuna," Dark replied in a sarcastic tone. 

She turned the shower off. 

"Hey, Yuna. You didn't reply to my question," Dark growled, appearing right in front of her naked body as his crimson eyes flamed with fire. "Will you reply to him?" 

Yuna lowered her eyes. "After talking with him for a bit, I noticed that he didn't have any special grudge against Monsters. I'll text him first, Dark. Maybe if I meet up with him once more… I can seduce him to join me. With an intern from Monster Hunter Society on our side, imagine the possibilities." 

She grasped the white towel and dried her hair as she averted her gaze toward Dark's eyes. Dark's thin flaming eyes stared into hers. 

"Seduce him? Good idea, Yuna… but you can't hide things from me, you know that right? We're too deep in the Monster business now. If the boy doesn't text you back by tomorrow, that means he's not going to text you. You've already cured him with that kiss of yours. And when every other person who touched the butterfly essence dies tomorrow night and only he remains alive, he will find out that it was negated by your kiss. We can't turn back to the Human side now. You know what they do to the Linked like you who turned their back on humanity, right?" 

"I know, Dark. Let's just hope mister Intern is smart enough to reply to me when he figures out that I am one of the Linked."
