the Pursuer

(POV: Noah)

Excitement surged within me as I made my decision, opting for the "monster" category despite the tempting allure of "killer."

"[You have chosen the 'monster' category!]"

Another window materialized, displaying words that sent shivers down my spine:

[S.T.A.R.S...]

Suddenly, a blue card appeared, accompanied by the iconic character from a beloved saga of games. Standing at a towering 2.33 meters, he wore a black trench coat and chargers, his scarred face adding to his menacing appearance. Tentacles protruded from his back, serving as deadly weapons. One arm appeared more muscular, while the other, encased in a leather sheath, housed additional tentacles.

"No... this is... too epic!!" I murmured in excitement, marveling at the unexpected appearance of Nemesis in the "monsters" category.

Yet another window appeared before me.

"[Congratulations, you have received an evolvable blue card!]

[Congratulations, you have obtained a 'monster' from the 'biological weapon' subcategory. The character will start off weak, but it's possible to evolve him to match his Prime form.]"

Grinning like a child, I marveled at the revelation of this subcategory. I hadn't anticipated Nemesis being classified under "biological weapon," but upon reflection, it made perfect sense, considering his origins.

I glanced at my statistics window:

[Name: Noah Williams

Age: 16

Strength: Average

Speed: Average

Intelligence: Slightly above average

Characters: Jeff the Killer, Nemesis!]

With a sense of anticipation, I tapped on the Nemesis name.

[Nemesis: 1/15

Abilities: Viruses, Tentacles, Immense Strength, Unreal Speed]

I examined Nemesis's skills:

[Virus: Allows Nemesis to infect beings and turn them into zombies. It's possible to use them on humans and animals. (Evolvable)

Tentacles: The tentacles can be used to hit, also as a whip. Nemesis's tentacle is as hard as steel and can hit at sonic speeds. (Evolvable)

Immense Strength: Nemesis' strength is enormous. He can grab cars and trucks, his strength so great that he can destroy cars in seconds. (Evolvable)

Unreal Speed: Although Nemesis seems like a heavy and slow being, he can run as fast as cars, maybe even faster. (Evolvable)]

A smile spread across my face as I considered the possibilities. With these abilities, I could create zombies and perhaps even mutations like Lickers or more Tyrants. But it seemed I needed to evolve further into Nemesis to unlock their full potential.

Glancing at Nemesis's level, it appeared that I needed to kill more people to raise him to his maximum level. However, I couldn't help but feel that it might be easier to level him up to Nemesis than Jeff...

"But... shouldn't Nemesis be a green card...? I think that level would be better..." I murmured with intrigue.

Suddenly, a system window appeared.

[That's correct, Nemesis is a green card, but it is nerfed. It is possible that it will become a green card if it rises to the maximum level and evolves.]

Alright, that answered my question. It seems like this card is unique. I mean, in Resident Evil, there were monsters that could destroy buildings, although they were huge. The person that comes to mind for a green card is Albert Wesker. It would be great to have his card, but I think he would be a green card. Although Nemesis is not bad at all.

I sighed and decided to call it a night. In the morning, I would make use of the card. Right now, rest was much needed. I settled into my bed, closed my eyes, and drifted off to sleep. As tempting as it might be to create chaos with zombies in New York, the idea of triggering an apocalypse didn't particularly appeal to me... at least not for now.

///

I woke up like always and found the house empty because my uncles and my mother had already gone to work. After making myself breakfast, I turned on the television, waiting for the usual worldly programs. However, something surprising, although not entirely unexpected, caught my attention. It was only a matter of time before this happened.

On screen, a person was captured swinging between buildings using something resembling a spider web: Spider-Man.

"Hmmmmm... Doesn't look much like the original Spider-Man... Oh shit... I forgot to go to Peter Parker's school... I forgot about causing murders in Queens..." I muttered in annoyance , realizing that I had neglected something important. Today I would make sure to visit that school.

While watching the video, I noticed that it wasn't a man in the Spider-Man suit. "Gwen Stacy...?" I murmured with intrigue. Will it be her or another female character? After all, there were plenty of female Spider-Men.

"Well... I don't go out during the day to kill people. I only go out at night. I think Spider-Man mainly went out during the day, right...?" I muttered, considering the possibilities. She couldn't be exactly like Peter. Maybe she was more stubborn and had a tendency to go places day and night.

"How annoying..." I muttered, the various possibilities still lingering in my mind.

"But...how about a little apocalypse in a nightclub...? Damn, you're a genius, Noah..." I exclaimed with a smile, the idea of testing the virus in a nightclub excited me. I could already imagine how the police would react. Excitement slowly consumed me as I anticipated the interesting experience that awaited me.

"Damn... What if... I presented it as a fictional story, making people believe that there is an 'Umbrella' in this world...?" I murmured with a smile, my mind racing with ideas. The anticipation was palpable. Tonight, the virus would spread, but he wouldn't let it intensify too much. I didn't want New York to become completely like The Walking Dead.

"Well... I hope Nemesis puts on a good show at night... Wait a minute... What would happen with the unexpected mutations...?" I muttered to myself quickly, my mind racing with dozens of thoughts.

"Just in case, I'll take it slow. I don't want to lose control and become a literal monster. I want to maintain control over my consciousness..." I said with a smile, reassuring myself of the need for caution.

Leaving the bowl in its usual place, I decided to head out for the moment, towards Peter Parker's school, even though he was dead.

///

I looked at the large building in the distance. It was night, obviously; I went at night, as it was the best time. Plus, there wouldn't be anyone inside the school, I assumed.

Running quickly between buildings, I spotted it in the distance. I hastened my pace and decided to hack the place. With Jeff's Card's in use, hacking was a breeze.

I disabled all the cameras in the area, leaving them displaying static images. Scaling the walls effortlessly, I clung to the concrete with my fingers, leveraging my strength to ascend. Reaching the roof, I scanned the area and spotted a door. Gripping the handle, I broke it open and slipped into the school.

I descended the stairs and glanced around, noting the presence of some cameras in the area. Normal enough. With my hands casually tucked into my jacket pockets, I strolled through the corridors, surveying the surroundings.

My gaze fell upon rows of lockers, and in the distance, I spotted the door leading to a bathroom.

I proceeded down the hallway and entered the bathroom. Everything appeared normal; the place seemed to have been cleaned recently. I scrutinized the area, but found nothing out of the ordinary. Despite multiple searches, there was still nothing of note.

Out of curiosity, I approached the toilet and peered into its unseen parts. To my surprise, I felt something in my hand. Retrieving it, I discovered a USB drive secured with adhesive tape. "Bingo..."

The discovery left me puzzled. How had the police overlooked this?

"Are you sure you left the USB here...?" I heard a voice in the distance. Quickly, I realized that someone was approaching - two people, to be precise. It seemed I had stumbled upon something rather intriguing.

With swift reflexes, I retreated to the ceiling, utilizing my superhuman strength to cling to the walls. My fingers dug into the concrete slightly as I positioned myself out of sight.

From my vantage point on the ceiling, I observed as two men entered the bathroom. Clad in black suits, they wore guns holstered at their sides.

"You're sure, right...?" one of them questioned, seeking confirmation.

"Yeah, I left the USB here. The information about the spider is still there... We need the information for Kingpin..." the other voice responded. Kingpin... The name sent a thrill through me. I couldn't help but smile, feeling a surge of excitement.

With great stealth, I descended from the ceiling, landing on the ground without making a sound. A smile crept across my face as I deactivated the card, enveloping myself in a dense fog that soon dissipated. Murmuring "Activate Nemesis," an even thicker fog shrouded me.

As I opened my eyes, I felt a surge of height and strength coursing through my muscles. Glancing around, I observed the two men still preoccupied with their search around the toilet. It was time to have some fun.

As the two men continued their search, one of them remarked, "Hey... Did you hear something? I felt something heavy step on the floor..."

"Damn it, shut up and work," his partner snapped back, dismissing the concern.

"S.T.A.R.S...," I uttered in a hoarse voice, echoing Nemesis's signature phrase. The two men turned to face me, their expressions a mixture of shock and terror. Towering over them at more than two meters tall, I loomed above, a colossal figure.

"Idiot! Shoot!!" one of them shouted, panic evident in his voice as they drew their weapons and opened fire. Bullets struck me, causing minimal pain thanks to my newfound resilience.

Once again, I uttered the iconic phrase and seized one of them by the head, effortlessly lifting him off the ground. Despite his frantic gunfire, I crushed his skull with a sickening squelch, blood and brain matter splattering across the room.

Meanwhile, the other man attempted to flee, but instinctively, a tentacle emerged from my arm, snaking out to ensnare him by the neck. With ease, I lifted him before me and repeated, "S.T.A.R.S..."

Wide-eyed and trembling, the man stammered, "M-monster..."

Driven by curiosity, I delivered a powerful blow to his chest, my arm piercing straight through him. He gasped, unable to utter another word before succumbing to his demise, like a broken and discarded toy.

I released my grip on the lifeless body, watching it slump to the ground with its entrails spilling out. An unfamiliar, hoarse voice echoed through the hallway—my own voice, yet altered in a way that felt both human and not.

"How annoying..." I muttered in that deep, resonant tone, feeling a sense of disconnection with my own vocal cords. It seemed I would need to acclimate to this new voice.

Surveying the scene, I decided to make use of my tentacle. With a deft motion, it grasped the bodies of the deceased, lifting them effortlessly into the air. They hung limp in my grasp, resembling oversized dolls.

Carefully, I made my way out of the room, mindful of my towering stature. I didn't want to inadvertently damage the door as I exited, the crimson trail of blood marking my passage.

As I pondered my next move, I decided to transport the bodies to the roof. Despite my somewhat sluggish pace, my strength was formidable—a force to be reckoned with. Perhaps activating a skill would enhance my speed, though.

Upon reaching the rooftop, I deposited the bodies, taking a moment to assess my surroundings. It was time to orchestrate a little mayhem, starting with a massacre at a nightclub. But first, I needed to address the matter of the USB.

///

I scouted several locations in Queens until I found one that seemed promising. As I approached, I noticed the security guard, who appeared on the verge of nodding off. Seizing the opportunity, I swiftly crept up and snapped his neck, Concealing his body in a nearby alley within a garbage container, I ensured no one would stumble upon him as I made my way into the nightclub.

Fortuitously, the exterior of the club appeared deserted, suggesting that it was already packed inside. This worked in my favor.

I surveyed the scene inside the nightclub, the cacophony of music and frenzied revelry assaulting my senses. Amidst the chaos, I noticed people lost in their own worlds—some dancing wildly, others indulging in substances, and a few engaged in passionate embraces.

"Perfect..."

I navigated through the crowd, blending seamlessly into the pulsating atmosphere. As I moved, I spotted a quieter area, away from the main dance floor—a perfect setting for what I had in mind.

"Time for a little zombie apocalypse..."

With Jeff's Card activated, I made my way to the backstage area where the staff worked. A security guard attempted to intervene, but I swiftly dispatched him with my knife. Inside, I found a group of people conversing, unaware of my presence until it was too late.

"Well...time for some good survival horror," I remarked with a chilling smile as I prepared to unleash chaos upon the unsuspecting nightclub.

I deactivated Jeff's card and activated Nemesis's card. As the dense fog enveloped me, I felt a surge of power coursing through my veins. With newfound strength, I extended a tentacle towards a nearby corpse and inserted it into the dead man's mouth. I sensed something wriggling within the tentacle as I pushed it down the deceased man's throat. With a forceful motion, I withdrew the tentacle, leaving behind a macabre transformation in its wake.

One by one, I repeated the process with the other lifeless bodies scattered across the floor. As each corpse was infused with the virus essence, they began to convulse and spasm uncontrollably, blood oozing from their every orifice. Soon, a horde of undead creatures rose from the ground, their vacant eyes fixated on me with an insatiable hunger.

With a satisfied smirk, I beheld my handiwork—a legion of zombies ready to wreak havoc upon the unsuspecting nightclub.

"S.T.A.R.S..." I intoned, my voice resonating through the dimly lit corridors of the nightclub. With purposeful strides, I made my way towards the door leading to the heart of the establishment, where throngs of unsuspecting revelers danced and reveled in their own oblivion. It was time to unleash a small-scale apocalypse, to transform this night of celebration into a night of survival horror.

N/A: here is the author, the next chapter will be more horror, well, I'll try,I will make it the most similar to survival horror.

I will explain something just in case, the blue cards are powerful, but not enough to destroy buildings, the green cards have the power to do that.

blue cards can destroy walls, metal, even breaking the floor of an entire room but not to destroy an entire building, when Noah reaches the green cards he will be able to destroy buildings, I want to start calmly, without much destruction.
