2 Arcanist

After thinking about what his future plans would be and how he could use his knowledge of the future to his advantage, Sorin went back to his bed where he noticed his phone-like device next to it on top of a small table.

In this world, 'phones' were not the familiar devices Sorin knew from his previous life. They were magic instruments called Arcoms provided by the Academy, primarily used for announcements and communication within the Academy and its vicinity.

Global communication was still far from being created. Well, in terms of technology that is.

Arcoms in this world were exclusive to Academies, as there was no internet or external connectivity available. They operated by tapping into the magic network established within the school, allowing for communication and announcements within the Academy's boundaries.

They also have general knowledge of Arcanists and spells built into it for the new students.

While they bear a resemblance to phones with fewer functions, they incorporate numerous convenient features.

Picking up the Arcom, he looked at the time which was 06:17 giving him enough time to prepare for his new school life that would start soon.

Sorin began searching into his memory for key bits of information about the novel he had read in his previous life.

This world he was in is definitely super dangerous. This world has monsters, demons, spirits, demi-humans as well as wars and battles that can occur any time due to treasures that appear within the world. Needless to say, strength is rather important in this magical world.

The power system is somewhat complex, however it follows the same principle as a few famous works in his previous life.

The novel gave a nice description of the power system. In this world, people that can use magic are called Arcanists. As Arcanists, they cultivate their 'Mana Cube' that resides within our souls. The Cubes have their own tiers that represents your predicted strength.

'I purposefully said predicted as despite having a higher tier Mana Cube that gives many benefits such as an increase in thinking speed, stronger senses, higher mana capacity and higher tier spells, many villains still lose to the protagonist even when having such clear advantages.'

Mana Cubes are separated into 9 tiers. Everyone in this world would have an affinity towards an element, even if it is just a miniscule amount, as long as you have some, you have a chance to embark on your journey as an Arcanist.

There are 8 elements in this world which is represented by 8 of varying coloured Cubes. Of course, there are sub branches of elements but they all fall into one of the 8 cubes.

'I'll stop thinking about this now as later today, one of the professors would go more in depth about the Mana Cubes.'

'I'm pretty sure this is what led to the protagonist becoming a laughing stock in front of the school.'

Finishing his thoughts, Sorin still had a little over 2 hours before his first class begins. He decided to try and partially connect to his Mana Cube within his soul to get a glimpse of what element he would be controlling.

However as this would be his first time connecting to his Cube, the time could range from 0-30 minutes if he was a genius to 3 hours if he was mediocre.

The first time one connects to a Cube would generally show how talented you were. This is because it shows your compatability with your Cube, the higher the compatability, the easier it is to understand your element and ascend to a higher tier Cube.

The method he was about to use was something the protagonist used later on in the novel, though the circumstances was different.

After deciding what he wanted to do, Sorin crossed his legs on his bed and began trying to get as comfortable as possible.

He tried reaching a state of traquility by emptying his mind. Sorin started breathing in an even and constant pace, his heart beat slowing down.

After 30 minutes, nothing happend causing a slight frown to be seen on his face, however he quickly got rid of his pointless annoyance. After another 35 minutes however, he seemed to sense something. A Cube seemed to emerge within his sea of consciousness emitting a soothing pale green glow.

"Hm, not bad. I managed to get the Aurora Cube which represents wind. However, it is a bit disappointing that I couldn't connect to my Cube within 30 minutes, but no matter, at least my talent isn't mediocre."

"Well, even if my talent were mediocre, it wouldn't pose a significant issue, especially considering that one of the treasures I intend to steal from the protagonist can provide me with the talent for the element I desire most." Sorin's smile was cold as he contemplated seizing what wasn't rightfully his.

"It's strange, despite me being transmigrated into a completely different world, I don't feel anxious nor sad. Maybe it's because my previous life was so dull? In my previous life I had no friends, no family and no one that would really care if I disappeared." Sorin thought out loud.

"The past doesn't matter, I should just focus on the present and future. I should just keep on planning on how I can steal the protagonist's 'lucky chances' and what my end goal for this world to be." Sorin spoke with a resolute expression.

Even though Sorin is targeting the protagonist despite not having any enmity with him, he feels no guilt or remorse.

Sorin once again got out of Bed and began preparing for his real first day of school in this life. Expectation fills him as he is looking forward to what the world has in store for him.

The time was 08:50 as he began making his way towards his classroom which just so happens to be in the one the protagonist is in.

Sorin, making his way towards the grand wooden door, opened it. With a creak, the door revealed the interior of a classroom filled with fellow students, all eagerly awaiting the professor's arrival.

The room resembled a lecture hall, with elevated seats that stretched behind the students progressively, emphasizing the importance of knowledge in this mystical world. Its flawless design and intricate details spoke of years of magical tradition.

Sorin walked a few steps up to find an empty seat where he noticed the protagonist sitting near the far corner.

He looked liked just how he was described in the novel. A rather tall guy with light blue hair and eyes. As well as a lean figure that still hasn't developed much muscle yet.

He looked excited as this would be his first day on his journey to be an Arcanist.

After observing him for a few seconds, Sorin sat down on an empty seat as he waited for the teacher who should be arriving in around 10 minutes.

Getting a little impatient, he took out his Arcom and looked through a few pieces of theory on magic. The Arcom has basic knowledge about Arcanists that has been built into it for new students.

More knowledge wouldn't hurt.

After a few minutes had passed as Sorin was busying himself with his magical device, he heard a voice.

"Do you mind if I sit here?"

Turning around to see who the owner of this voice was, Sorin saw a beautiful girl standing near him. She had medium-long grey hair that cascaded onto her shoulders. The grey eyes she had, exuded a unique charm to them whilst her complexion was porcelain, flawless and radiant.

After analysing the beauty next to him, which took only an instant, after all he wasn't the type of person to start stuttering like those protagonists you found in fiction. He only admired her beauty a little before replying.

"Sure, the seat isn't taken by anyone." Sorin replied back.

"Thank you." The young girl said before taking a seat next to him.

After his small interaction, Sorin thought about her and tried guessing who she was in the novel.

After a few moments of contemplation, her description matches with one side character that was introduced in the novel. She was called Nevery Andrus.

She was a minor supporting character who appeared only in the academy part of the novel.

'From what I remembered, she was an alchemist and assassin type fighter who connected to the Umbral Cube which was one of the rarer Cubes out of the 8.' Sorin thought a little about her backround before he heard the sound of the grand door open.

Stepping towards the centre of the classroom and emitting a small amount of elemental pressure, the teacher managed to silence the classroom.

"Hello students of Millith Magic Academy, I am professor Alexander. I will be your instructor on magical theory as well as the person in charge of taking you all to connect to your Mana Cube."

After hearing the statement from the middle aged man who had dark brown hair and eyes, the classroom erupted in cheers. Many of the students had eyes full of expectation that would probably be crushed soon.

'Around a third of the classroom would probably not have the talent to be an Arcanist. Well unless you have lots of resources and luck, your chances of becoming a notable Tier 1 Arcanist is very slim.'

'Me and a few others, mainly the rich ones, don't exactly need to do the test to find out what their Mana Cube is as they probably found out when they turned 16 years old.' Sorin pondered.

Sorin had used a method the protagonist later in the novel had also used, whilst the rich ones probably got themselves an Arcanist to connect their Cube for them. However, he still needed to connect with his Mana Cube as he simply glimpsed at his element.
