Max treasured his clone as a shield for his alternate identity. If the clone perished, Max theoretically incurred no loss, as he could simply call forth another. 

However, if such an event transpired in a public setting, Max would never be able to assume the guise of Max Rajput again. 

His true identity would then have to be regarded as dead and Max wasn't prepared to accept such a consequence. 

Establishing his alter ego as a distinct entity had presented formidable challenges. If it weren't for Hazriel's help he would have been exposed in front of Regus Aurelius and the vampire society as a primordial vampire long ago. 

Now that he had proved beyond a shadow of a doubt to the rest of the world that Ravan and Max were different people, he couldn't afford the risk of undergoing the anguish of crafting yet another alternate identity.
