One of the dangers of using [ Soul Devour ] was that without a memory filter the brain of the recipient would be flooded with the memories and life experiences of the soul they were devouring which would lead to a split personality at best or a complete brain failure at the worst.

Seraphiel had warned Max against this danger and told him to always keep Drax as the medium which was the only reason behind why Max had waited as long as he did to take down Dracula.

In reality, Drax would have never chosen to betray Max, however, with a slight nudge from the perfect warrior using [ Alter Reality ] and Drax decided that his desire to obtain a permanent physical body was justified as he abandoned Max's side to filter the information and rather focused on claiming Dracula's body for his own.
