Chapter 2: A new player

Fang Mu was gone just after the fight of the swordsman and the sorcerer; he was looking at the result when he saw that it was quite late and he should go home, he wanted to say something to the guy playing but he was so engrossed in that he just left him be. When he walked out of the internet café, the snow already stopped, he was surprised as the time he felt that the time he spent here wasn't that long. He thought about the game Glory as he walked on the road; the graphics and the game play were indeed impressive and the fight was also quite interesting, he could understand why people were so fond of the game even thought he was just looking at the guy playing; Fang Mu began to show interest in the game as he recalled his time in the internet café.

When he got home, he went to his bedroom and began to do his homework; after he finished it, there was still time before dinner so he went to the computer to brows through the net; he looked at the news and popular threads when one particular thread attracted his attention, he clicked on it and the page showed; he read the content:

"Glory for the tenth anniversary is opening a new server, the popular MMORPG that have over a hundred and thirty millions players all over the country; it managed to give a satisfying experience to many players who held great passion and love for it; new players keep on increasing every year and the professional league where the greatest experts show the highest peak kept on gaining place on the world of E-sport, new stars appear every year as the competition keep on growing in intensity….."

Fang Mu didn't continue as he was just a guy who didn't even play game so he didn't care much about E-sport, but his interest over Glory was increasing,

'It doesn't seem bad as a way to kill time' he thought to himself, he was a first year freshman in the local high school and he thought that it would make a new hobby since he began a new school life not long ago and didn't have to care about exam or university for now. As he thought so, his mother called him for diner so he closed the browser and shut down his computer and went downstairs.

The next day, Fang Mu went to school as usual in the morning after breakfast, he went over the same way he took, and when he passed by the crossroad he saw the big screen showing the image of a spear wielding character from Glory, it was moving impressively between several opponents attacking with the spear showing off a dazzling dragon like skill in a snowfield with red maples trees, the name One Autumn Leaf was written in gold characters. When the light became green, Fang Mu stopped looking at the screen and walked away toward school….

At school, after the first period, Fang Mu stood up from his seat to take a break, it was at that time that a glass wearing guy walked over while waving to him, he was lean and rather short with short black hair and sharp eyes, he called over:

"Hey, Fang Mu! We are going to the internet café to play game after school, are you interested?"

His name was Wu Xing; he was Fang Mu's friend since middle school and a game freak. Although they didn't share the same hobby, they were still quite close as nerds.

"Sorry Wu Xing, I have something to do today." As usual, Fang Mu refused his invitation, but even if Wu Xing understand that his friend wasn't interested in game, he still couldn't help complaining.

"Are you going to your part time job again? I know that you like book and Novel but can't you make sometime to play with your friend today?"

Fang Mu was working part time as a translator of books and web novels on a site since it was his hobby anyway; he was translating some series even if they are only light ones since middle school. Usually, he was occupied with it and didn't have time for other hobby, but today, he had another matter to deal with.

"No, today I don't have any translation works; I just finished the novel for the month so I have some free time. I'm going to buy some stuff."

Wu Xing was obviously surprised, since usually this blockhead friend of his would go for another work as soon as he finish, he couldn't help but ask him.

"What are you going to buy? I'll go with you if you want."

Fang Mu thanked him, and wasn't polite.

"Thanks then, I'm going to buy an account card and a log in device for a game."

Wu Xing was so stunned, he couldn't respond for a moment but he the asked excitedly.

"What game ?! You actually think about playing game! Why didn't you tell me quickly ?!"

He was obviously happy that his friend was finally opening himself to the world of game. His time preaching him every day wasn't for naught after all.

Fang Mu knew that his friend would be surprised about it so he answered calmly.

"It's a game called Glory, a MMORPG."

Wu Xing looked at him eagerly to continue so Fang Mu recounted the event yesterday.

" When going home yesterday, I saw many people crowded in an internet café when I was trying to find a shelter from snow. I heard people talking about Glory; and I saw a guy playing it on a computer while waiting for the snow to stop and found it rather interesting; since I don't have work for a while and I've read most of the novel out there, I thought that it would be a good way to pass time."

Wu Xing was silent for a while after hearing his friend, he knew about the game Glory, but he was more into FPS game and wasn't very interested in fantasy game, but as he thought about it, his best friend who didn't even play game was finally opening to it, so he couldn't let go off this opportunity to play with him. So he said.

"Okay, then let's go quickly, I will also buy an account and that login device; for you this no gamer to be so interested in a game, this Glory must really be something."

Fang Mu laughed at him and said:

"It's fine if you want to go buy it too but for now, we still need to wait after school."

Wu Xing was embarrassed that he even forgot about school but he was a guy with thick skin so he responded

"As long as you understand, I don't want you to pull out after. See you after school then!"

After school, Fang Mu and Wu Xing went to the largest mall in the city on the way they talked about stuff like their new school life and the english teacher who was so strict. They entered the mall and soon neared the game corner where they bought two Glory software and the necessary game cards accounts and log in devices, as they went to the counter to pay up, Wu Xing suddenly asked Fang Mu:

"What kind of keyboard and mouse are you using?"

Fang mu was puzzled by the question but answered nether less.

"The kinds that are sold the cheapest on TaoBao, why do you ask?"

Wu Xing slapped his forehead in exasperation but he understood his friend so he said to him:

"I know, I know, you don't need to say more. For gaming, that type of keyboard and mouse are inadequates. Your computer is from a quite good model so we can let it be but you have to buy better keyboard and mouse and also a headphone to have the best environment to play. Let's go buy them there."

Fang Mu didn't retort and followed him to the computer appliance corners.

After they paid at the counter, the two friends decided to go to Fang Mu's home since Wu Xing doubted this guy would be able to install the game on his own.

When they arrived, Fang Mu opened the door of his home and walked in, Wu Xing followed him while asking

" And your parents, are they here?"

" They are still at work so don't be shy and come to my room." Fang Mu answered casually and went to his bedroom on the second floor; Wu Xing followed him on the stairs.

Entering Fang Mu's bedroom they put down their luggage and took off their coats, Wu Xing then went directly to the computer and started working to set up the game.

After looking at him for a while, Fang Mu gave up trying to understand and went to get some drink for them, he asked

"I'm going to get some drink, so is a coke good for you?"

Wu Xing was busy so he just gave a grunt of acknowledgment.

After half an hour, the process was finally over, and as Wu Xing stretched, Fang Mu gave him the coke he brought from the kitchen while he thanked him.

"Good work. Here, your drink."

Wu Xing wasn't polite, he took and drank it in one gulp; he was wondering though why his friend gave him cold drink when it was winter, but decided not to ask, instead he said to him

"It's finished, you can now try to log in now."

Fang Mu took seat and then inserted his card account in the log in device, after Wu Xing told him to chose the tenth server and wait for him in the game; he went home to prepare himself and log into Glory.

"Choose the tenth server, it will be easier for us to enjoy the game in a newer server than in one where everyone is already high leveled, wait for me at the starting town; I will contact you on QQ when I'm in the game. See you then!"

As Fang Mu bid farewell to his friend, the game interface showed up, and he was asked to create his character, he chose the name 'Towering Tree' and used the standard male face with brown hair. After confirming his character built, the screen lit up and a robotic voice said
