Lucas, who was in a deep sleep, suddenly felt a sharp headache for a split second, causing him to wake up immediately.

He looked around and touched his head repeatedly to see if everything was intact and whether he died or something, but soon found everything to be fine.

"Fuck… what was that?" He cursed, looking around the dark room.

"Huh!?" Lucas said in surprise as he heard a cold mechanical voice in his head.

He still wasn't fully awake and so he looked around to see whether there was an intruder or something.

But he found no one and so he sat back and thought about what just happened once again.

He thought for a few seconds but after not being able to find anything, his sleepy eyes dropped and he was about to fall asleep again.

But just as he fully closed his eyes, he saw a blue screen with words written in white.

Lucas opened his eyes abruptly due to the sudden shock he felt but was only able to see the dark room. He closed his eyes again and saw the screen once again.

'What's happening?' he thought to himself. 'And what does this mean?'

[Response detected. Answering host: to select anything, host must just think of it.]

Lucas was surprised as he saw a new string of words appear in front of him while a cold mechanical voice repeating the same thing.

He thought of selecting the options present in front of him, it was the main menu option and Lucas saw the screen become blank and then saw a new set of lines appear on it.

There was just one option in the main menu available and Lucas was surprised looking at it.

"Hey, isn't this the system I used to see in the comics in my past life? And why do I only have one option here? Shouldn't there be skills, shops, missions, etc, tabs available for me to select?" Lucas said his thoughts out loud.

Just as the system finished speaking, Lucas heard a gentle and soothing voice. The voice said:

"You must be wondering about many things, one of them being who this voice belongs to; don't fret about such small things."

"What?" Lucas said in surprise. What the hell was this response to his question?

"The system is just a tool given to you to conveniently hop worlds and universes as you requested. You can choose to move anytime you want, as long as a certain criteria is met and a certain price is paid."

"But you can choose to not pay anything to hop universes by simply becoming stronger. The world you are starting in can make you strong enough to traverse any universe you want."

"Another thing. The system won't really help you in becoming stronger or provide you things, it'll only allow you to do a few specific things. One of them being, you can keep a check on how your cultivation progress is and that's about it, see you later, in the afterlife that is."

Lucas was stupefied as he heard the last sentence. So it was really that goddess whose audio this was. But all things aside…

"I met a goddess, I reincarnated, I got a system, but I got no cheat!? What the fuck!?" Lucas cursed again.

All the animes and comics he had read in his previous life with what little time he had on him, he always saw them get epic cheats. But why was his luck so bad? Why did he get no cheats? He was once again born as a simple mortal and there was hardly any difference between him of now and him of Earth.

Why was the goddess like this? She seemed such a nice person and he could tell that she would grant him anything he wanted. But why did she not? Was it due to him shamelessly offering his virginity?

"Ugh. Must be due to that." Lucas answered himself.

He rose up on his feet after a few seconds of thinking and looked outside the window, towards the moon, with a determined gaze and said to himself,

"Whatever. I still have the advantage of knowledge and my own hard work to rely on. As a wise man once said, 'hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.' I am just gonna follow that and work really hard."

"I have a second chance at life and I also have my family with me. I am not gonna waste this. I'll rise to the top of the world and provide everything to my mom and sis. I'll not let them suffer like they did in their previous life."

"I'll destroy anyone or anything needed to rise to the top. If there's a need for deceit, I'll do that. If there's a need for killing someone close, other than my family, I'll kill them if the benefits outweigh their life."

"I, Lucas, am no hero, nor am I a villain. I'll be the worst scum if needed or be the best person if needed. It's the benefits that matter in the end."

Lucas paused after making this oath. He then put his palm on his chest and said with a determined gaze again,

"I, Lucas, only care about my loved ones and benefits. I'll die but not let harm befall on my loved ones, I swear to not let my mother and my sister suffer again, be it in this life, or their future reincarnations."

"I, Lucas, will go against the heavens if needed, destroy hell and the universe if needed, but I'll not let harm befall on my loved ones again."
