95 Bad Boys

The Vampire at the table gives me a knowing smile as he says, "Imagine my surprise when a little Witch and her guard dog walked into my own restaurant all on their own. Normally I have to hunt your kind down."

I return the smile as I say, "Yes... what a surprise. Your buddy here said you wanted to talk?" The Vampire's smile grows as he asks, "Do you really think that's all I wanted to do?" He pulls out a necklace and at the end of it hangs a red Witch's stone."

As soon as it's exposed to me, it glows an angry bright red color. My smile turns into a smirk as I say, "So this is what you wanted to do?"

A Witch's stone will basically absorb any and all magic coming from a Witch, leaving her without magic. This bastard really did plan on making me his own little juice box. Unfortunately, it's me he ran into. If it had been any other witch, she would have been in grave danger.

Aston curses and immediately tries to place himself in front of me in a protective stance. I would say it was sweet, but the guy was an ass. Heh... Ass-ton.

I snap my fingers, instantly crushing the stone into nothing but fancy red sand. His two lackeys go flying across the room and get plastered to the walls like pinned flies. The Vampire sitting at the table blinks in surprise before saying, "Ah, I hadn't expected that. The prey becomes the predator."

He drops the chain and instantly becomes alert, tensing up for a fight. Aston gawks at everything with a look of astonishment on his face but I ignore him as I step forward and say, "If you had wanted to talk, I was all ears, but I don't fancy having my blood drank against my will."

I crack my neck as I say, "I've had a long day and I'm not in the greatest mood, so I suggest you tread carefully. I planned to kill all three of you but decided against it at the last moment. I have a proposition for you."

The Vampire nervously watches me, but he nods and says, "Let's hear it then." I glance at his two struggling lackeys before saying, "I'm here to kill a few witches who've crossed me but... if you can give us safe passage while we're here, I'll give you the witches. It's a win-win. I don't have to massacre the entire Vampire population here in the city and you get free juice boxes, what do you think?"

His lip twitches as he says, "You'd really give them to me? Doesn't your kind value even your criminals?" I nod and say, "As long as you keep your annoying Vampires off me and my... companion here then we have a deal." He watches me with dark eyes, weighing my words and actions but in the end, he agrees.

"I have to speak to the head Vampire here in this area. If I get his approval, then we have a deal." He says pulling out his cell phone. I wave to him and turn to Aston. Aston was still watching the Vampires, but he wasn't nearly as tense as before.

"It's me, Vance. I have an odd request." He says glancing over at me. I give him a small smile as he says, "I want safe passage for a Witch and her dog." Aston's face crumbles in annoyance but he doesn't say anything. I try my best not to laugh.

There's a long pause before he says, "I understand that but she's not... she's not normal. She's offering witches in return." Another long pause before he sighs and hangs up. He tosses the phone on the table and leans back in annoyance as he says, "He's coming."

I arch a dark brow, surprised that the leader of this area would come here personally. I nod and pull over a chair. I sit down and wait. Aston refuses to do the same though. He remains silently standing beside me like an imposing shadow.

Vance waves at the other two vamps and asks, "Can you release them?" I glance over at them and shrug before saying, "Until we reach an agreement, they can stay there. Plus, they look comfy." Vance cringes, looking at the two vampires who were clearly in pain and struggling to breathe but he doesn't argue.

Half an hour later, a strong presence approaches the room. I can feel his ancient power rolling off him in waves. As soon as he enters the room, it feels like it's harder to breathe. He glances over at me and slightly deflates, looking disappointed.

Interesting...

He walks into the room, looking me over as he says, "Vance here says you're offering up your own kind for safe passage?" I shrug as I say, "At this point, they're just the people who tried to kill me and failed."

The Attractive Vampire 'hmms' in agreement as he says, "I see, now that makes more sense. How many witches are you offering?" I stare at this man and realize that if we were to fight, it would get messy, so I decide to play nice.

"Depends on how many are with them. Two for sure, ten max." I say standing up. The Vampire watches my every move before slowly walking up to me. Aston wants to step between me us, but the Vampire snaps his hand out so fast, we don't even see it.

He grabs Aston by the throat holding him still as he stares down at me with cold eyes and says, "Deal, but if you cross me... I will hunt you down and drain you myself after ripping this one apart." I glance at his hand before looking up at him.

I can tell Aston was trying his best to fight against the Vampire, but this guy was so incredibly old and powerful, he stood no chance. I nod and say, "You have my word." He gives me a sexy grin and drops Aston.

Aston gasps for air, reaching for his throat as the Vampire sticks his hand out and says, "I'm Ambrose, and you are?" I place my hand in his as I say, "Lyra, a powerful witch but clearly not the one you were looking for."

Surprise flickers in his dark eyes for a brief moment before he gives me a large grin and says, "Why can't I ever meet normal witches?" We let go of each other's hands as I say, "Because normal witches are boring. Admit it, we're better this way."

The smile on his face is downright breathtaking and his low chuckle makes my toes curl. He looks me over and nods before saying, "You're right. It's much better this way."
