5 Chapter 3: Health Club

I stretched out in my chair while checking the answer sheet and handed it over. I finished answering our first quarter exam and I'm pretty sure that I did well. I hope I can beat Aki this time.

"Attention students." said the voice from the speaker.

"Our club activities were postponed due to the first quarter exam because we do not want these to affect your studies. But starting today, all the club activities, academic or non-academic, will resume. Every student must join at least one to three clubs. You can also create a club with your idea if you want. And also, be ready for our school's student council election. Thank you." the announcement says.

Students are cheering with excitement in the classrooms as well as in the hallway. Club activities are one of the most enjoyable activities in this school. It's not just pure academics but, there are also non-academics which include sports, music, arts, as well as photography, cookery, and more. There are also weird clubs like Ghost Club which is formed by those who believe this school is hunted.

"Miss Number Two." Aki, who is sitting beside me whispered. He already finished the exam a while ago.

"What?!" I answered irritably.

"I just called your name, why are you angry?" he complained.

"Because I have a name but you keep calling me by that silly nickname!" I whispered forcibly.

"You're Miss Number Two." he chuckled. I hate it when he calls me using that name. He enjoys looking down on me, so annoying!

"By the way, are you going to join the student council and run for president?" he asked as he faced me.

"Are you?" I returned the question to him.

"If you join, I will."

"So if not?" I asked playfully.

"Then I won't. It's that simple," he said smiling. I rolled my eyes when I heard his answer. What has that got to do with me?

"Hmm okay." Should I join or not? He doesn't look determined to win this time. This could be my chance to beat him because of his half-assed state.

"Finished or not, pass your paper." our teacher, Miss Angie Ito said with an authoritative tone. My classmates passed their papers one by one and went back to their seats.

"You can now proceed and fill up forms to join different clubs. To those who are planning to join the student council, we will have a meeting in the audiovisual room (AVR) shortly after classes." Miss Ito said and left the classroom. After her, our classmates started to leave the classroom one by one until Aki and I are the only ones left.

"Are you joining?" he asked again.

"You bet I am!" I answered with full determination. He smiled at me, a type of smile that can melt other girls, but it does not affect me. It shouldn't... but here I am, staring at his beautiful face.

"A-All right, see ya later," I said and was about to walk out of the classroom. But I was stunned when he suddenly grabbed my arm and stared into my eyes.

"Don't leave me here," he said seriously. He's acting weird today.

"W-What? I still have a lot of work to do." confused I said.

"Please?" What's with this guy? This is awkwardly annoying.

"Alright," I said and sat beside him. Why can't I walk out right now when I do it all the time? I still have a lot to do. I should have eaten at the canteen. I also need to go to the library to borrow interesting books and plan for my projects for the student council. So what the hell am I doing here sitting beside this guy, wasting time?!

"You okay?" I was shocked when Aki put his hand on my forehead and seemed worried about me. I realized I was spacing out while arguing with myself.

"You look pale-" he was about to lean towards my face and put his forehead against mine when the door opened.

"Excuse me."

"Ah!" we were surprised when a female student suddenly entered the room. Based on her blue bow, she is a freshman in this school. She has long black hair, covering almost half of her face. Her skin is pale white, and she's wearing a black turtle-neck inside her uniform. Weird.

"C-Can I ask what club is this?" she asked while looking down. Aki and I just looked at each other, looking for something to say.

"Uhm..."

"Actually..."

"I-It's okay. All of the clubs I tried to join doesn't want to accept me. I know you won't either-"

"We're the health club," Aki suddenly responded. I was surprised because of his response, but I realized he pities the girl, that's why I agreed with him.

"It's only the two of us in this club. I was about to check Rin's temperature because she looks sick," Aki explained so that she won't get the wrong idea.

"You can join us here," I said and smiled. Both of us felt bad when we heard what the girl said so... we're now the health club.

To be continued...
