TWO WANTED CRIMINALS

"Everybody put your fucking hands up if you do not want to get your brains blown."

Giovanni stormed into the convenience store with a masked Luciano following closely behind him. His voice was filled with a false sense of bravado that belied the fear that coursed through him. His gun drawn and ready for action, he urgently scanned the store, but to his surprise, there was not a soul in sight. Except for the cashier, a young woman, who sat behind the counter and had her eyes glued to her phone.

"You," he barked to try and get her attention, "put your phone down and put your hands up."

She finally looked up, her eyes meeting his with an unwavering composure. A sense of dread crept up his spine the longer his gaze lingered on her nonchalant expression. She seemed completely unfazed by the fact that she had a gun to her face as if her life was not being threatened. Why did she seem so unbothered? Did she not realise the gravity of the situation?
