1 Chapter One: Fateful Encounter

Espers. Espers are living beings with supernatural abilities. Pyrokinesis, Cyrokinesis, Telekinesis, and Telepathy are all examples of psychic supernatural abilities. There are also physical supernatural abilities. Like super speed and super strength. While these abilities sound rare and special, they aren't in today's society. 45% of Japan's population are Espers. Due to this, Espers who don't respect the law often commit crimes or cause havoc.

In the year 2020, a boy named Atsuya Sasaki was born.

"Mr. and Mrs. Sasaki. Congratulations on the birth of your son."

"Dear, isn't he the cutest?" Elizabeth Sasaki, the mother of the child, held him in her arms.

"Of course. He gets it from me!"

The doctor performed a post-birth checkup on the mother.

"Mrs. Sasaki. It pains me to say this, but you have an serious injury. It seems that the process of having your child was not kind to you."

After he was conceived, he cried. Due to an early awakening, his cries shook the hospital building, along with some nearby buildings as well.

The boy's father realizes that his son is an Esper. "Woah! Amazing, that's just amazing! Liz, our son is an Esper! How cool is that? Liz? LIZ!!!"

Just like that. Shortly after giving birth to her son, Elizabeth Sasaki died. The father was instantly heartbroken. The emptiness that his dead wife had left within his heart had caused the boy's father to hate him. He despised the boy so much that a week after seeing the child whom he attempted to kill five times, he placed the infant for adoption.

Years passed and nobody adopted the boy. In the year 2030, the boy was still living at an orphanage. 'This sucks. What did I do to deserve this?' Thinks Atsuya. No one ever approached him because his powers caused him to be constantly surrounded by an immense pressure that only espers could withstand. That is until one day, while sitting in the corner of the bedroom for the kids, Atsuya is approached by a girl.

"Hey, loner boy! Wanna be my friend, " says an unknown girl.

Atsuya looks up at the girl, with a facial expression void of emotion. He examines her. 'Her body is a bit mature for a 10-year-old. Maybe she's older than me? Wait a minute.'

"I don't recognize you. Who are you and what do you want?" Atsuya stares at her, maintaining his expression waiting for her answer.

"My name is Chiaki. And like I said earlier, do you wanna be my friend?"

Atsuya looked into Chiaki's eyes trying to interpret her intentions. No normal person ever tries to be friends with him.

'This girl. She must want something from me. But what? I don't have anything.'

After about a minute of awkward silence, he spoke.

"You're weird."

"Huh?"

"I don't have anything for you to take from me. So for you to be talking to me, you MUST be weird."

Chiaki sighs and takes a seat next to Atsuya. They make eye contact, but Chiaki is making a sentimental face. Atsuya, confused, asks her what her problem is.

"What's your deal?"

"You've been through a lot. Haven't you?"

Atsuya's eyes opened wide as he heard these words. They reverberated through his mind. He thinks back to his mother, father, and arrival at the orphanage. He wanted to blow off Chiaki's question, but Atsuya's soul wouldn't allow it. It continued to show him the past.

Then, Atsuya unwillingly sheds a tear. He knew why he was crying, but was confused on why he was actually crying at the same time.

"Huh, that's weird. I don't remember being sad or wanting to cry. But I am."

Chiaki hugged Atsuya as he let out his tears.

"That's it. Let it out. Even if you refuse to let your emotions out, your soul will eventually give and let the emotions flow by force."

Atsuya then hugs Chiaki back and continues to cry.

"I could see it in your eyes. The trauma. Of course, I don't know what it is specifically, but I could tell your soul was hurt. So, will you be my friend, uh..."

"Atsuya. Atsuya Sasaki."

"That's a good name. *clears throat* Will you be my friend, Atsuya?"

"Yeah. I will."

Atsuya felt a wave of relief all over his body. After the exhaustion of crying hard and being so tense, he fell asleep in Chiaki's lap.
