The Storm Begins

3rd Person

The fatal day finally came, the day that Kris was supposed to deliver the good news to his beloved mate, his Lan. Kris left work early that day telling Lan that he was having a slight headache, he did not want to worry his Lan anyway. Kris was having a weird feeling in his heart that something he did not like was going to happen today since he set out his from the baby shop yesterday. Lan was not a person who hid his feelings, so Kris was curious about what made his Lan that way, into a person like he was before, hiding the pain and smiling not letting others see the pain inside. Kris shook away that feeling and focused on the upcoming event, his surprise dinner with his Lan. Kris went home and took out the couple suit he had bought online for both of them. He was planning on going to the dinner with his Lan, wearing a couple suit.

Kris had already made a reservation in Lan's favourite restaurant for their dinner. The ring box with the pacifies in them was ready in his pocket, now the only thing he had to do was convince Lan to go with him. Without any plans, he left the house with the suits on the back seat of his car. Ming already had a date with one of Tyler's coworkers, Theo so that problem was already solved. He drove his car to Lan's company and took the elevator directly to Lan's office, with Lan's suit in his hand. Kris had already worn his suit in the car. As Kris appeared in front of Lan without any warnings Lan looked surprised, but something else gloomy was shadowing on Lan's face.

"We are going on a dinner date. Change into this and meet me downstairs."

Kris said and dashed out of Lan's office, leaving a puzzled looking Lan behind. Kris knew that he could not talk Lan into this dinner, but he desperately needed it, so he used the forbidden method. He knew that Lan would never leave him to stand outside, on the doorstep of 'Wang Industries' on a cold night, so he was taking advantage of the soft spot Lan had for him.

On the other side, a poor Lan was swaying his look between the suit in his hand and the large envelope on his desk. He had received that envelope yesterday, it did not come through the mail, so even Ming did not know about it. It was just lying on his desk when he came into his office yesterday morning. Inside it was a scrap letter which read, 'Enjoy the last day you're spending with your mate wisely'. If it were another time before he met Kris, he would have thrown it away considering it as someone's prank, but with Kris, he could not act carelessly, he had too much to lose. This was why Lan had started feeling anxious when Kris got late in grocery shopping yesterday, why he had asked Kris to promise to never let him go. Lan could not exactly put a finger on it, but there was this feeling that lingered in his heart which said that his angel will suffer because of him.

Finally deciding that no matter what happened he was going to protect his mate, he went to the adjoined bathroom in his office and changed into the suit Kris had brought. After he changed he took a good look at the mirror, that's when he realized that the suit he was wearing was actually a matching one, with the one that his angel was wearing. He softly smiled to himself thinking about his 'hopelessly romantic' mate. 'Well as my angel has gone to the lengths of buying us couple suits, the dinner must be special', Lan thought to himself as he made his way downstairs, to the doorstep of his company where Kris was standing. Kris was standing there swaying to left and right, anxiously waiting for Lan to come outside. As he saw Lan standing near him in the suit he had bought, his face lighted up like the sun.

Kris ran to Lan and linked his arms with Lan's. Kris had become more clingy due to his pregnancy, but Lan thought about it as Kris acting bossy. Kris dragged Lan to their car and asked Lan to drive to his favourite restaurant. They drove in silence as Kris was actually afraid that his words will cause Lan to go back to the gloomy mood before, for now, he was smiling normally while he stole glances at Kris from time to time. As they parked outside the restaurant, they could see that something was definitely wrong. The restaurant was usually very busy at dinner time, but today there was not a single car in the parking lot, it was practically deserted. Lan and Kris slowly got down and walked towards the restaurant to check out what had happened. It was then that they noticed that the busiest part of the city, where the restaurant was situated was also eerily quiet.

Lan looked around and as he was about to look at Kris, something caught his eyes. It was the ground beneath them, there was some kind of 'an array' drawn on the parking lot's ground in yellow paint. It was the same colour as the direction signs so he did not notice it earlier. As Kris was also following Lan's eyes, he also noticed the array beneath their feet. But Kris noticed something else that Lan did not see. It was that both of them were standing in the middle of two separate circles, which were only connected with one stroke of paint. 'Just like two people are connected with each other by the mate's bond', Kris thought to himself. Kris's mind said that the strokes of paint in the array were somewhat familiar. Then his mind ran back to the time two years ago when he entered the old shaman's house. He had seen the same kind of an array there too, even though the content of the strokes were different, the angle of the strokes were almost the same.

Kris understood that something was going on here without their knowledge, he was about to ask Lan to leave, when he felt a slight prick in his neck as if a needle was sunk into his neck. As this happened Kris's body limply fell to the ground, headfirst. Lan on the other hand was also a victim to the same kind of treatment. Now they were both lying on the cold ground facing each other in the middle of two separate circles which were connected with one single paint stroke. Both of them were helplessly trying to reach to each other despite their numb bodies, which did not listen to their command. Kris had figured out the substance on the needle even before he fell to the ground, it was vervain. It was a tranquilizer that was used on vampires that were out of control. Both of their eyes filled with tears knowing that they could not help each other.

"Well, well, look who was caught in our net?"

The woman in the black dress walked out of the shadows of the deserted parking lot.

"Mom"

Lan whisper-shouted in a surprised voice. The woman went to Lan, sat down near him, and leaned his limped body to her own, supporting Lan to the sitting position while stroking Lan's face. Lan cringed from the touch but he could not do anything.

"Don't worry darling, I will get rid of this useless bond you have with this son of a bitch and marry you to a good girl suitable for you."

The woman said, still stroking Lan's face. Lan knew that his mother despised same-sex relationships, that was the reason he had not told her about them in the first place. Even though he knew that she disliked his relationship, he also knew that his mother was not a heartless person who would tear his son away from his happiness. She was the only one he considered as family and she could not also turn out to be a monster like his father.

"Please don't break our bond mom, I love my angel. Please, mom, don't do this to us."

Lan pleaded, tears streaming out of his eyes. But those words were as same as words spoken to a deaf, wasted. Kris stared at the woman who Lan had called 'mom' with fear written clearly on his face. Wasn't mothers supposed to be warm and lovely, but this woman looked like a poisonous snake than a mother. As the words, 'getting rid of the bond' left the woman's lips Kris started to get a clear picture of the situation. The arrays beneath them were the arrays that were used in rituals that were performed to break mate bonds. Normally those will be performed in situations in which, when one mate is dying because of an unavoidable reason, in order to save the healthy mate their bond will be broken.

Fear started to creep into his heart as he thought of his unborn twins, 'What will happen to them?'. Whenever this ritual has performed a mate was destined to die, but Kris did not want either of them to die. Both of them had to live, his babies needed to grow up with both of their parents around. Kris was looking for hope even in the darkest moment. He needed to stay strong as he wanted his babies to survive no matter what. At that moment he remembered the words that Lan spoke last night. 'Did he know this was going to happen?', Kris doubted Lan for a second, but he killed that thought as soon as it came. He trusted his Lan, they were both vulnerable, but they were both going to survive, if not for themselves at least for their unborn babies' sake. At least that was what Kris thought.
