Chapter 7: A new student

A week has passed and a new student was about to come to the school. Lucas had to prepare a quick homeroom class for his class to introduce the newcomer to her peers.

When the new student came, she came with a female assistant. The student's name was "Fiona Basilk and she was a noble demon gargoyle. She had smooth white skin, two white horns that looked like they were made from marble and a tail that looked similar to the horns but could still move which also looked like a dragon's tail. She had long white hair and eyes that looked like gems.

The assistant, who had a thin demon tail and small horns, said "You are my lady's homeroom teacher, correct?" Lucas answered "Yes, that is correct. And you are her assistant I presume." The assistant says "Yes. My name is Tiara and I will be watching on the sidelines to ensure that my lady will stay safe." Lucas says "I still don't think that it's necessary, but this was accepted by the principal herself, so I can't argue against it."

Lucas then looked at Fiona and said "How do you feel coming to a non demon school?" Fiona says "It's alright." Lucas asks "Are you worried about anything?" To which Fiona answers "Not really."

Then Lucas said "The homeroom is about to start so let's get going." Then they went to the classroom and Lucas ordered the students to take their seats. He said "This is Fiona Basilk and she will start coming to this academy from this day onwards. The person next to her is Tiara and she is her assistant. Tiara's presence was accepted by the principal, so if you want to complain then go to her office."

Then Sonya asked "Are you a beastman by any chance?" To which Kyle said "No she's not. She is obviously a demon." Drace says "I agree. I don't sense any draconic blood in her even though she may look the part. She looks beautiful and I sense great power in her. I give her that, but she is a mere lookalike to my kin."

Tiara gets annoyed and says "How dare you speak ill towards my lady. She is of the noble house Basilk and they carry the bloodline of the demon god of pride." Lucas says "Calm down Tiara, they are just students who commented on Fiona's race." Tiara calms down and then Lucas continues to speak to the students.

"As Kyle guessed, she and Tiara are demons. Tiara is a minor demon that is barely different from humans besides outward appearance and they are the most common type of demon in this era. Fiona on the other hand, as Tiara said, carries the bloodline of the demon god of pride Gloria. Her exact race is demon gargoyle which is different from normal gargoyles. I will give a lecture about these sorts of things at a later date, but I'll just tell you that she is a person like you and me. Now that that's out of the way, you all should be ready for your next class. Dismissed."

Then some girls from the class come and talk to Fiona, who gives them short answers. Sonya seemed to be the most interested out of all the girls, but Lucas could tell that Drace wanted to have a fight against Fiona as soon as possible.

Next day during combat training Drace had that opportunity. Tiara was opposed to the idea at first as Fiona was as powerful as some rank S adventurers.

Even though she was powerful, Fiona didn't like violence. The only reason why she is in combat classes is because her parents told her to.

Nevertheless Fiona accepted Drace's challenge and she readied herself. All the other students came to look at the fight between Drace and the newcomer. Drace said to Fiona before he attacked "I hope you aren't a disappointment" To which Fiona said "I hope so."

Drace attacked with his hardened fist and Fiona took the blow with her bare hand. Fiona said "Is that it?" This angered Drace and he began to punch her with even mightier power. Fiona either took them on with her hands or deflected them so they did no harm to her. Tiara was cheering on Fiona on the sideline.

The skill Fiona was using was "Attack nullification" which has its own rules. It can completely nullify any attack that is less than a certain percentage of the user's power. The percentage is subjective to the user, but in Fiona's case it's 80%, which is a high number.

Then Drace changed his normal aura to draconic aura and attacked. The attack that was enhanced by draconic aura Fiona couldn't nullify so she had to dodge. If she would have tried to nullify it, the skill would backfire and deal extra damage to her instead of nullifying it.

Then Fiona decided to actually attack. She couldn't use her best skill called "target crystallization" since it would instantly kill Drace, so she decided to use hand to hand combat enhanced by her own aura. She didn't even try to enhance her aura before since her raw strength could handle it before, but now she had no other choice.

Fiona did land a few punches to Drace, who managed to harden those spots just in time for him to nullify as much damage as he could. If Fiona didn't pull her punches, she could have easily sent Drace flying, but since she generally doesn't wish harm to other people, she couldn't pull out the strength in her to do it. Drace didn't notice this however, so he continued to do what he did before.

After a while of struggling, Fiona managed to push Drace back and put him on hold which he could not escape naturally. Drace tried to use his skill "dragon flame" to get her off of him, but since gargoyles have some resistance to fire, it didn't really bother Fiona that much. It did hurt her, but she could just wait it out until Drace stopped struggling.

Fiona kept asking Drace "Do you surrender?" To which Drace said angrily "Of course not!" This repeated many times over.

Drace was in that hold for half an hour, which made other people who were watching return to their own training as nothing interesting was happening. Even Lucas himself stopped watching the match the moment he saw Fiona put Drace on that hold. After he was done, Drace embarrassingly relented and conceded. Thus the practice match was over.

Then when Fiona and Drace got up, Fiona tried to shake her hand with Drace as she said "Good match" but Drace just said "I'll be better next time" and ignored her handshake. Fiona had a bit of a sad look on her face when Drace rejected her handshake, but Tiara quickly came to cheer Fiona.

Tiara said "You did great my lady. You defeated him like it was nothing." To which Fiona said "Thank you. But he almost landed a hit on me. I'll be careful next time."

Lucas came to talk to them and said "While your power level is great, when you are in a fight, you'll need to land a hard enough hit to end the fight. It is admirable that you don't want to harm others, but know that sometimes there is no option but to retaliate." Fiona said "Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. Heir of Invidia and Iram." Lucas gives a gentle hit on Fiona's head and she makes a cute noise. Then Lucas says "There is no need for you to call me that here. In fact, I'd prefer if you keep it to yourself. I'm but a simple demon mimic now and there is no need for anything else."

Fiona says "Understood teach." To which Lucas says "Not that I mind, but I didn't expect you to call me just teach. Where did you learn that?" Fiona says "Sonya said I should call you that."

Lucas says "Right. Speaking of her, why don't you go and have a practice match with her next?" Fiona says "I'll do that" Then she leaves together with Tiara to find Sonya.

During a breakfast when Sonya, Hannibal, Fiona, Tiara and Iris were chatting. The reason why Hannibal was welcomed to the girls table wasn't because he was popular with women. The reason why he could be just friends with the girls was because he was openly gay.

The topic became what they thought Lucas was like and all gave mostly similar answers. The consensus was that Lucas was capable and kind with a hint of arrogance.

Iris then asked Fiona and Tiara "As a fellow demon, how do you feel about professor Knave?" Fiona gave an answer "As a fellow demon? Hmm… Respect?" Tiara said "I agree with my lady. He has shown how capable he is, so I think as demons, me and my lady should respect him." Fiona then says "The fact that he lived in the time of demon king Legul Ranan is also something."

Hannibal said "Didn't he say something about him knowing Legul personally?" Sonya says "I remember something similar. But where did I hear it from?" Iris says "Does it matter where you heard it?" To which Sonya responds "I'm just wondering."

Then Fiona says "Can't wait for the class about demons tomorrow." Tiara says "I agree. Since he is from a time when demons were more relevant, I'm sure he knows much about demon society of that time."

Sonya then says "I wonder if Kyle will show up." Hannibal asks "Why do you think that?" Sonya says "I mean, while he thinks demons as lesser beings, he does bear a lot of knowledge about demons. Well, at least the knowledge his family has gathered. Anyways, I just think that he might actually be interested in what an actual demon would say." Iris says "I think he will come."

Then Hannibal says "Wanna bet?" To which Iris smiles and says "While I think it wouldn't be very noble of me to accept this, I think I'm going to take up on your offer. I bet five silver that Kyle will come." Hannibal then smirks and says "I also bet five silver, but I bet that he won't come." Then Iris and Hannibal shake hands as to commit to their bets.
