“Rosemary then?” I asked, shocked at the revelation. “Rosemary O’Malley ratted out her husband’s family?”

He nodded. “Yep, and that’s where the notes end. She was going to turn her husband in, in exchange for her and her son’s protection. New identities. New lives. The paperwork was being drawn up. She’d already given the Feds the info. The family was arrested. All that was left was the court case, testifying against the family, against her husband.” He paused. He frowned. “Only, she never made it. Died just before it all happened.”

I shuddered. The poor woman. But why commit suicide if she still had yet to testify? That part didn’t make any sense. “That explains why Bing dropped out of college,” I eventually said, instead. “I suppose he had no other choice. The family would’ve come looking for her, for him.” I rubbed my chest. It actually hurt. “Looks like they found her. Looks like they found her and he somehow got away. Or was it Carl that did it? Do you know where he is?”
