I pointed above his freckled shoulder. “Madonna.”

He nodded. He was hard in an instant. “Yeah, Madonna.”

We got dressed. Ma made us breakfast. That is, Ma poured us cereal and, miracle of miracles, fixed us some coffee―instant again, but still.

“It’s good to see you again, Bing,” she said, joining us at the kitchen table. “You’ve grown.”

I laughed, thereby spewing my milk and my Cheerios. Yep, gross understatement. He had indeed grown. Everywhere.

Bing nodded and wiped my chin. Butterflies took wing inside my tummy. “Thank you, Mrs. Nelson. It’s good to see you, too.” He grinned. “Weird, but good. I mean, after all this time.”

She smiled. “Seems like just yesterday you boys were up to no good.” I also smiled. Seems like just five minutes ago. “So, where are you staying?” she then asked.

I turned to look at him. That was a good question. He shrugged in reply. “I hadn’t worked that part out yet.”
