Chapter 59

Mia took Bella and asked the lady for a piece of clothing. "Where would she normally play?" Mia asked. "At the big oak tree," the lady said in tears. "What is her name and is there a password between you so that she knows you send me?" Mia asked. "Yes, her name is Emmely and the password is bear," the lady said. Bella sniffed the scent of the girl and Mai let Bella do her job. It took about thirty minutes for Bella to find the sent. Mia followed Bella hoping the girl was okay.

She found the girl sitting on a rock crying. "Hello, are you Emmely?" Mia asked. "I don't know you, mommy said to never talk to strangers," the girl said. Mia took a deep breath and said, "the password is bear." Mia tried her best to comfort the little girl and soon made her way back to the village.

On her way there she found another ranger coming to her. "I see you found Emmely?" he said. "Yes, but it took us a while. I told the lady were not trained yet but she started begging me so I couldn't say no," Mia replied.

The man smiled and said, "it happens, thank you for telling her to phone us as well. You are not allowed to do these missions on your own yet but you're in luck I was close by already," the man said. "Thank you, I am trying to get to the ranger office but I need to buy a truck first. Today jobs will pay for the truck and hopefully enough money to get me back to clover," Mia replied.

"You in a hurry then?" the man asked. "Yes but I think it might take time no matter how fast I want things done," Mia replied. The man looked at the girl and said, "let's get you to your mother." The ranger gave the girl to her mother who couldn't help but thanked the man over and over again. Mia felt discouraged that the man didn't tell the mother she was the one that found the girl but decided to respect the man's decision not to tell the mother.

Mia slept like a log that night and in the morning went to see if she can buy the truck. Lucky for her everything worked out. Mia was about to pay when the ranger walked into the dealership. Mia rolled her eyes and asked, "I am not doing anything wrong here paying for the truck now?" Mia asked. "How did you make that money?" he asked.

"The bulletin board, I always take jobs from there. I took two jobs yesterday," Mia replied. "That lady didn't pay you," the ranger said. "I would never take the money like that. I worked very hard for this money. I earned it fair and squire," Mia replied. "Sorry, Mia but I don't believe you. I am taking this money from you and the next time you lie to me. You can kiss your career as a ranger over," the man said as he took all the money Mia worked so hard to earn from her.

Mia was so angry that she phoned Mary Anne. "I earned that money fair and squire. It's not my fault the lady begged me to help her," Mia told Mary Anne. "He said he saw the lady pay you," Mary Anne said. "Paid me what, she said she would but she never did and even then I wouldn't take the money," Mia replied.

"I will look into this Mia but it will take some time," Mary Anne said. "Yes time I don't have, how am I suppose to but a truck gets ready for my first international mission and get to clover in less than two weeks," Mia yelled over the phone.

Mary Anne took a deep breath and said, "just try your best Mia."

The next day Mia took more high-paying jobs only this time she asked the people she worked for to write a letter. Stating what work she did. How much they paid her and if they were happy. That night the lady showed up in tears once again but this time Mia didn't help her. Instead, she phoned the rangers and said, "Emmely is missing again and her mother is begging me," Mia replied.

The woman shocked yelled at Mia. "You are useless. My little girl could be dead and you're phoning the rangers," the woman yelled. She slapped Mia across the face and said. "You will never make it as a ranger." Mia watched as the ranger came running and soon found the girl. The mother looked at Mia and said, "you see this ranger is what rangers do. THEY ACTUALLY HELP us. They don't refuse to help others like you just did," the woman yelled.

The ranger stopped and looked shocked at the lady and said, "she got into trouble because you paid her for yesterdays job. That's why she refused today," the man said.

"You think I paid her off?" the lady asked. "Yes, I, unfortunately, saw you," the man said. "I didn't pay her, I gave her something so that the dog can have Emmelys sent. I didn't pay her," the lady said.

"Well no problem, I've already dealt with the problem," the man said. The lady looked at Mai but Mia had already disappeared down the road to her hotel room. Later that night there was a knock on the door but Mia ignored the knocking on the door hoping it would just go away.

In the morning Mia walked down to the truck dealer and with proof this time that she earned every cent. She picked out a blue double cab 4 x4 that she really liked. It had just arrived at the dealership that morning and Mia was the first one to give it a test drive.

"I like it, it's really powerful," Mia replied. "So we have a deal then?" the man said. "Yes, I hope this is enough," Mia said as she gave the man the cash. "A cash payment is even better," the man said as his eyes sparkled at the sight of all that money. He counted every sent and after signing all the paperwork for the truck he gave Mia the truck keys.

Mia was about to get into the truck when a truck parked in front of Mia's truck. When she saw that it was a ranger that drove the truck. She looked at the truck and back at the man. "We tried to reach you last night but you wouldn't answer the door," the man said. "Look I am in a hurry, I need to get back to clover within two weeks and I have paperwork that needs to be done in the next town. Can you please just move out of the way," Mia replied.

"Your leaving today?" the man asked. "Yes, I need to get to Leo's team they are mentoring me. Maybe he can show me how to earn money so that the rest of you will believe me when I say I earned it fairly," Mia replied. "About that, there was a complained laid against you, you need to head back to the head office," the man said.

"What, right now?" Mai said. "Yes, you need to be there within the next week," the man said. Mia got into her truck and checked the money that was left. She filled up the tank and bought some food for Bella and her to eat.

Then she hit the road, first, she went to pick up her documents and bought a phone so that she could talk to her uncle's. Mia drove all the way to the ranger head office. There she started to register for her trip with her uncle Kevin and Leo her mentor.

During the trial and investigator informed the court that Mia did not take money but a piece of paper the child had drawn a picture on. He was surprised that Bella found the girl and finished his report saying that Mia and Bella is truly a unique pair. The man also added that Mia and Bella earned the money doing protection work for a rich family. They didn't want their daughter doing shopping in town alone.

"She didn't steal the money, she earned it fairly," the investigator finished. As he gave a letter to the court that stated she did the job and they paid her for it.

The court dismissed all the charges and the money was given back to Mia. She paid for a room that night and in the morning while she waited for her papers she bought a few things that she needed. A bed for Bella, a blanket a few toys and she bought a dog crate just in case she needed it as well as several other necessary things.

Mia finally picked up all her documents and was looking at the map for the fastest way back to clover.
