A Few Years Later

Izuku was excited, today was a special day. It was his 11th birthday. Hisashi took the day off and Inko was at home baking a cake. Izuku was running down the street alone.

After he turned 10 and after some convincing from Hisashi, Inko finally allowed Izuku to go running on his own. Stopping at the same beach his father took him years prior he took a deep breath and took in the cold salty sea air. "I can't wait to eat mom's cake! I should probably head back now."

Turning around Izuku began to head home, these last couple of years life wasn't easy for him. This was especially true in school, after the kids found out he was quirkless they began to pick on him. The worst one of them being his childhood friend Bakugo Katsuki.

Izuku would constantly come home with burns and bruises from the bullying. Inko and Hisashi even went to the principal to complain but nothing was ever done. They suspected that it was because of Bakugo's quirk, it was strong and he himself wanted to be a hero. After multiple attempts the parents finally got something done by switching him to another classroom but even there he would be picked on.

But it was like his father said, one step at a time and never look back. Even though it sucked Izuku was still happy, he had parents that loved him even without a quirk.

As Izuku got closer to his home he began to see several police cars zooming past him, followed by heroes. "Huh, I wonder what happened?" Izuku was casually walking down the street when all of a sudden he turned his head to the left and for a split second Izuku could see a red lightning crackle streak past him. His eyes widened as through the lightning he could see a face. As the object left his sight another green streak of lightning quickly followed.

"Huh, was that a hero?" he asked himself as he turned the corner, but as he did Izuku's eyes widened, from the street he could see that his apartment door was taped off. Izuku feared the worst, 'No no no…'

Running up the stairs he tried to get past the cops but was stopped by one of them. "Sorry kid you can't be here." Izuku looked up to see a tall man wearing a trench coat and hat.

Izuku struggled against the officer, "I live here! What happened, are my parents alright?"

"You live here?" The officer then placed a hand on both of Izuku's shoulders. "Listen to me kid, my name is detective Naomasa. What I'm about to say may not be easy to hear but…"

However, before Naomasa could say anything two other officers were taking Hisashi in handcuffs away. Izuku was confused, "Dad?"

Hisashi turned to see Izuku, "Oh my god, Izuku, thank goodness you're safe. Listen I love you son, no matter what I love you, don't you ever forget that. And remember what I said, one step at a time and never look back. Promise me you'll do that. Okay, promise me!"

Before Izuku could respond the officers took Hisashi away. Breaking free from Naomasa's grasp, Izuku ran into his home to find a white cloth covering someone on the floor. Looking around he could see that the floor was charred and scorched.

Walking over to the sheet Izuku kneeled down and reached for the end of it. Slowly he began to pull away the sheet to reveal his mother, dead.

Izuku couldn't believe it, touching her shoulder he began to shake her gently, "Mom…Mom! Hey come on wake up! Mom! Please don't go...mom." tears began to fall as Izuku shook Inko more, but he knew she was gone.

Sobbing and with tears hitting the floor Izuku looked up to see a cake on the table. That's when Naomasa walked up behind Izuku and covered Inko with the sheet, "Izuku was it? Come on, let's get you out of here and somewhere safe. Do you have any family members we can call?"

Standing up and with tears in his eyes Izuku shook his head, "N-No, if..if only I was faster I could have saved mom. Mom would still be alive…"

As Izuku was being taken to a police car, Mitsuki and Masura Bakugo both ran up to him. "Izuku!" These were the parents of Bakugo, his childhood friend.

Looking up, Izuku saw them, "Aunie, Uncle…" seeing them caused a sudden surge of sadness to wash over Izuku. "Mom..she's...she's…"

That's when Mitsuki hugged Izuku, "I know dear, I know."

"Izuku, I thought you didn't have any relatives. Who are you?" asked Naomasa.

Masura then stood forward, "We aren't family, we are close family friends." Naomasa nodded, "Where are you taking Izuku?"

"We are going down to the police station, after that we are going to call child protective services. Izuku will most likely be taken under their protection." explained Naomasa.

Mitsuki's eyes widened, "NO! You are not taking Izuku away."

"Ma'am, we have no choice. With no other family Izuku has to go with them." explained Naomasa once again.

However Mitsuki wouldn't let that happen, "Never! We can take care of him! Isn't that right dear?"

Masura looked at his wife and saw that she was more determined than ever, he sighed and turned to Naomasa. "Is it possible to take care of Izuku? Besides his parents, he's known us longer than anyone."

Naomasa thought about it, "It's not really my area but I think we can do something about that. That is, if Izuku wants to."

Everyone turned to Izuku, he thought about it for a second. Even though Bakugo was mean to him his parents were always kind to him. "I want to stay with them."

Naomasa nodded, "I have a hero friend that may be able to help with this. But first come with us down to the station, there are a few questions we'd like answered."
