Waking up as usual, Kenji yawned before rolling out of bed and stretching his body sore, but not to a crippling degree, 'Only needed to learn that lesson once.' 

After getting dressed, Kenji entered the kitchen and pulled out two premade shakes from the refrigerator and two energy gummy packs from the pantry. 

Drinking from one of the shakes, Kenji ignored the protein powder's slightly chalky taste. It had taken him a few tries to figure out the ratio of ingredients, but now he had it down to a science. 

"How are you always up before me?" 

Kenji looked over and smiled at Toga, her hair matted and tousled from a deep sleep as she walked into the kitchen. 

"Drink enough caffeine, and eventually, your body will start producing it," Kenji said with a completely straight face, only for Toga to roll her eyes as she reached up to tame her wild mane of hair. 

Watching her, Kenji couldn't help but feel a bit jealous, 'Not having a quirk sucks.' 

In only four weeks, Toga had gained an unbelievable amount of weight in the best way possible. Every single movement made something of her jiggle, driving Kenji mad. 

It also didn't help that Kenji was convinced that most of the time, Toga was doing it intentionally to tease him, 'Not only that, but she's stronger than me as well.' 

It was a shock that Kenji spent an entire afternoon researching how quirks affected the human body beyond the noticeable mutation-based quirks. 

Kenji's natural source of confusion was how Lucifer's changes conflicted with the anime's main lore. 

In the manga and anime, there was a theory called Qurik Singularity, which stated that quirks got stronger and stronger over time as more quirk users had children. Eventually, quirks would be so strong that the human mind and body would be incapable of controlling them. 

The same issue was even more prevalent in the universe Kenji had been reborn into, with quirks actively able to evolve. But it seemed as if Lucifer had fixed the issue behind the scenes.

According to the Hero's Guild, the international organization overseeing anything related to the hero business, during an evolution, not only did the quirk upgrade but also the body and the mind. 

Most pro-heroes, even without strength-enhancing quirks, were stronger, faster, and more durable. 

'And apparently, it gives you the perfect body fat to muscle ratio.' Kenji groaned to himself as he took another sip of his shake. 

Yawning as she finished tying up her hair into high buns, Toga stretched her back, raised her hands overhead, and thrust out her chest, which strained against her sports bra. "Are we running to the gym today?" 

"Hmm... oh yeah, the gym," Kenji murmured, distracted before he violently shook his head. Yes, we're heading to the gym." 

"Good," Toga responded with a grin as she lowered her hands and rolled her neck, "I still don't understand why you're training for the Hero's Exam. They don't accept anyone without a quirk." 

Kenji spread a tired smile. "And I still don't understand why you don't believe me when I say I'm a late bloomer." 

Toga rolled her eyes, "What are you eighteen? Spring has come and passed." 

Staring at Toga for a moment, Kenji raised a single eyebrow, "What's the real reason you want me to quit?" 

"...I don't want you to get hurt," Toga admitted in a whisper, "Even if you awaken a quirk in time for the exam, the fatality rate for Pro Heroes is 10%." 

Kenji smiled, making Toga blush and glance away, "While it's cute to see you so worried about me. I'm set on this path." 

Toga glanced up at Kenji before something changed in her eyes. She nodded seemingly to herself, "Alright then, if you're going to be a Hero, then so am I!" 

"Oh, I kinda assumed you already were," Kenji responded with a nonchalant shrug before he chugged the rest of his shake, hoping it hid his shit-eating grin. 

Toga glared at Kenji before letting out a huff and grabbing her drink, "Asshole."

Wiping the sweat from his face, Kenji glanced down at Toga, still at the bottom of the stairs. " Are you alright? You were lagging behind a bit on the run back."

"Hmm...oh yeah, I'm fine," Toga responded after shaking her head and clearing her thoughts, "I'm just going to hang out here for a minute." 

Deciding whether or not he wanted to press the issue, Kenji let Toga have her space and went inside. 

Retreating to the bathroom, Kenji locked the door behind him before a massive smile spread across his face, and he fist-pumped the air as he mentally opened the system notification that had been tempting him since he left the gym.

The moment Kenji accepted, a flood of energy lanced through his body, and he collapsed to the floor.

Kenji's hands balled into fists as he ground his teeth together, 'Why does this hurt so much!?' 

Looking down at the back of his hands, Kenji watched as his skin started to darken, and his fingernails grew in length, turning into sharpened claws. 

Then, a lancing bolt of pain shot through Kenji's spine, and he felt something extend out from his tailbone. 

After what seemed like an eternity, the fire burning Kenji from the inside withered out, leaving him panting on his hands and knees. 

As Kenji recovered from the sudden transformation, a series of screens popped up in front of his eyes.
