13 The date

"Meow."

Ayato stared at the black cat in his arms, she was fluffy, affectionate, and pretty chill.

"Looking up to his Date, he could barely suppress a smirk when he saw her state.

Seven cats surrounded her, and he could see her struggling to pick which one to pet.

"Having trouble there?"

The snicker broke out when she sent him a glare.

It was not threatening when she did it usually, but it was adorable with all the cats around her.

"Why do they not like you?"

Ah, that was an easy question to answer, and he would answer that very confidently.

"My body temperature is higher than normal so considering the AC is on, my body heat is the perfect temperature for cats to take naps... It's just that this one was the first to find out."

He started petting the feline in his lap as she started to purr.

The smile he sent Rin caused her to squint due to the sheer brightness of it.

Rin herself leaned back and would have covered her eyes if both her hands weren't busy petting the cats.

"Really though, I would have never thought of a cat cafe, what brought this on?"

Ayato only hummed and leaned back in his seat, never stopping the stroking.

"I was thinking about getting a cat before we left the house since I was watching cat videos on Reddit."

She stayed silent for a moment, seeming to process the information before she brightened up.

"Can we get a cat?"

Ayato stared at her for a moment, hoping that She would realize the problem with that and come down from her excitement high.

It wasn't long before she realized the problems with that, they had school, and they had no idea what would happen to the cat inside the house when they were gone, and he was sure that neither of them wanted to put the animal in a cage for seven hours.

She sighed and leaned back on the chair, letting another cat take place on her lap.

The two remained silent, mostly thinking about what to do next before an idea popped up in Ayato's head.

"You know what we haven't done in a while?-"

Rin perked up, looking at him with interest. Seeing his smirk only intrigued her even more.

"-We haven't flown."

She deadpanned, "A while" was an understatement, they haven't flown in years, ever since his dragon form started getting bigger than their own building.

"you are aware that last time, your dragon form was bigger than our houses, and it's been years since then, how large do you think that will be?"

He only smiled in response. He would transform even if half the city fell to ruin.

And besides, the largest he could have gotten is two times as large as before, Right?

"Ah, don't worry, if I get too large then I will just manifest the wings, you wouldn't mind a princess carry, would you?"

The thought made her feel like there were butterflies in her stomach, yes, being carried by him wasn't a bad idea, but she wouldn't be Rin if she didn't try to tease him.

"And then we can proclaim our love with a kiss as we fly into the sunset."

Instead of retorting, turning the tables on her, or even ignoring that remark, he did something she didn't expect.

Reaching into his pocket, he took out a chapstick and put it on. Rin watched silently, eyebrows raised.

"It's your favorite flavor."

Turning fifty shades of red, she still rose an eyebrow at the Chapstick.

"Where did you get that?"

"I honestly don't know, I didn't bring one with me today... I didn't ever buy this, how did it end up in my pocket?"

Rin, confused, tilted her head in interest.

"Do you think somebody put it in your pocket?"

Ayato just shook his head.

"I would have felt it if someone did."

Little did the two know, that the author was sweating bullets right now. He knew that creating the Chapstick for entertainment was a bad idea.

The characters might become self-aware.

In the end, they did end up flying, after leaving four giant footprints in the forest, and he was wrong. The size didn't double, it tripled.

He suspected that police would still be looking for the source of that roar he let out. Contrary to popular belief, animals with quirks could be very dangerous, if one got a gratification quirk, things could get crazy, fast. A good thing they reached the clouds before any officials arrived.

Or they could have just assumed that a perspective student was training and just went there to warn them or something.

"Can't believe you went through with that."

Rin couldn't wipe off the smile on her face, sometimes, she would giggle but he couldn't blame her, they did just brake a few laws and got away with it. The amount of manipulation he had to pull off to cover his giant form with clouds would impress any current active hero.

Knowing that he would most definitely be arrested if someone figured out his identity only gave him more motivation to keep up their cover.

"And I can't believe that you didn't go through with your own words."

It could have been her imagination, but she thought that he was pouting.

Face reddening, she smirked. Turning around, she started walking backward as she raised an eyebrow at Ayato.

"Oh? Did you really want that kiss?"

Oh? Was she challenging him?

"Why don't you come and get it?"

Suddenly, as soon as she finished her words, Rin felt a shiver down her spine. Ayato lowered his head to level a stare at her and she stepped back.

Not even a second later, Ayato was on her, grabbing her by the legs and lifting her up. Rin ended up with her hands around his neck and her body leaning on his chest as he held her up. Looking down curiously, she tilted her head, waiting for what came next.

"You sure about that?"

She focused on his eyes, keeping her gaze on his, and nodded, there was no hesitation, there was never going to be any hesitation, it was him, after all.

Bringing her down slightly, he tilted his head, to the side to avoid any unnecessary collision.

Their lips met in an innocent kiss.

There was no lust, there was no hurry, it was just an innocent kiss between two teens that felt comfortable with each other.

Breaking the lip lock, Ayato smiled at the girl in his arms as she looked at him, eyebrows still raised in that curious expression he always found cute.

Rin licked her lips and smirked at him.

Their second kiss made up for all the passion their first one lacked and then some.
