7 Moving out

For a kid, who was used to normalcy, Ayato took what others considered weird well.

Horns on your head? Okay.

Reptilian eyes. Yeah, he had those.

Your neck can stretch. Meh, he's seen worse.

Found your childhood friend rummaging through your room for something?... He had to check that out.

And that's where he was, looking at Rin who was frozen in the position of reaching for something, and that something was the top of his closet.

"What are you doing?"

Sometimes he wondered why was she the only friend he had, but then he remembered that he was antisocial.

"...Nothing."

The reply was so fake that even he had to raise an eyebrow. He knew what she might be looking for, but just to make sure, the question would have to be asked.

"You're looking for my Attack on titan chapters, aren't you?"

The two stared at each other in silence before Rin slowly nodded her head.

He wasn't surprised, that manga was booming, these people were starving for something new and AOT was what they needed.

Still, though, why couldn't she just ask? The answer would be no, because she already asked, but that's beside the point.

"I told you, I can't let you see them before the release."

She pouted at him. Eyebrow twitching he walked over to his desk and pulled out the rolling chair.

Sitting down, he started thinking if moving in together was a good idea. If she was like this now, imagine what would happen when Levi was introduced.

He needed to appease her, somehow. His future room wouldn't survive otherwise.

"Look, I'm writing a new manga, and half of it is already done, since there is no contract on this, you can read it."

Reaching for a locked draw, he opened it with his air manipulation and pulled it out. Reaching inside, Ayato took out the Food wars manga but before he could extend it to her, a shadow hand had already taken it away.

Looking back at rin, she was already flipping through a page.

...Sighing at his friend's antics, Ayato extended his hand and a Human anatomy book flew to his hand, he had some reading to do as well.

-Six months left before UA-

Ayato was looking through some apartments available near UA, there were a few, but they were only made for one person.

Scrolling down further, he realized that the website had settings. Taking out the single-room apartments from the options, he searched again.

The first one he saw was on the other side of town but was fully equipped with everything he would need to reside there.

The second one was available to rent, it had two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen a bathroom, basically a normal apartment, it was on the fifth floor and the grocery store was near it as well.

The price was in his range and he didn't need to think too much to just accept it.

It was i. the middle of the town and UA was a twenty-minute walk from there. since it was still early, there were more options but this seemed like the ideal one. Now he just had to ask Rin's parents' permission...

___

"So... You want my daughter to move in with you?"

Ayato nodded while taking the sip from the cup, the tea was really nice.

Rin's parents were sitting in front of him... More like, he was sitting in front of them, their house and everything.

"It's not a bad idea, dear, we can split the rent between two families, and the kids won't have to get up at six in the morning to get to school on time."

Rin's mother was supportive but her father was still looking like he had more to say. Ayato could understand his concerns, if his daughter was going to move out of the house, he would be worried too.

"Actually, my family won't be paying the rent, I will."

The two looked at him like he had grown a second head, usually, no child would have any income at the early age of fourteen. Well, he wasn't normal, so, there.

"What do you mean?"

This time, it was miss Yukimori that asked the question, she straightened in her chair and was looking at him with calculating eyes. Storing away any questions he may have has about her expression, Ayato answered with his usual nonchalance.

"I work for a company that pays me enough to pay the rent while leaving me enough money for anything we may need."

And it was true, while he had saved up all the money he was paid for the chapters until now, his pay would cover the expenses of anything that the two might need. And considering that a certain percentage of everything the Attack on titan is earning the company goes to his pocket... Yeah, he wouldn't need money for a while.

On average, good manga artists got paid about 300 thousand US dollars back in his world. But here, since the years were not the same and the companies worked differently, manga artist was earning in a few ways: Their skill to draw, their skill to make a good story, and their skill to present everything in a few panels.

Since the companies that were publishing the work and not making it, they were willing to pay the artist much more than they would for only having them draw.

Since everything has been going well, and he owned the rights to "Attack on Titan" he was... "Loaded".

"So, my daughter will move in with you and you pay the rent, so you're letting her live with you for free?"

If he was honest, he couldn't care less about that.

"As you may know... I can't cook-"

The two in front of him shuddered at that, he tried making food once... and once was enough.

"-So, as long as I don't meet an early end by my own hand, she can stay there, besides, we've known each other forever now, I would have let her stay over if she asked."

Miss. Yukimori smirked, Ayato didn't like the glint her eyes gave off but decided not to comment on it, this was, after all, a negotiation.

"Very well, she may move in with you-"

Ayato started relaxing his shoulders at Mr. Yukimura's words but tensed them again when the older man leaned forward.

"-But we get to pay half the rent, it's not fair to make you pay for everything, even if the argument you brought up was very convincing."

Sighing slightly at his stubbornness, Ayato nodded and stood up, Rin's father followed him to the door while her mother started cleaning up the table they were sitting at.

"Ayato-"

Turning around, he looked up at the man standing in the doorway, tilting his head to indicate his confusion at the sudden call.

"Protect my daughter."

His tone was serious, his eyes practically commanding him to give a positive response.

Suppressing an eye-roll, he nodded.

"If someone tries something, you'll know where to find the body."

There wasn't a need to demand that. Even the number one hero would not come out alive if he got Rin hurt. After all, if a dragon raged, death followed suit.
