New Family

Limping forward on a desolate and slick road was a young boy around 7 years old with black hair and separate eye colors.

Despite being only seven years old, he had been kicked out of his house by his father over a small mistake he had made, and his mother, instead of coming to his rescue, stood by like a bystander as he was forced out of his home at 11PM during a storm.

As he limped forward with no destination, tears welled up in his eyes, but he forced them down. "Boys don't cry," he choked out.

Through the sound of the aggressive rainstorm, he couldn't even hear the aggressive noises his stomach was making due to hunger. He hadn't eaten in 3 days.

"Stop it," he said as he looked down at his stomach, and as he willed it, a green spiraling light came out of his palm, and just as he was about to put his palm to his stomach, he decided against it. The TV man told him using quirks without knowing how to is dangerous.

With the violent rain drowning out any form of noise, despite a car rushing towards him, he was oblivious, and wasn't able to protect himself.

*Scrrrrrt*

*Thud*

"Oh my god! Oh my god!" A woman with blue hair instantly came rushing out of the car, her footsteps getting closer to the boy, who was bleeding out.

Seeing that she not only hit someone, but it was a little boy, the blue-haired woman kneeled on the asphalt road, scraping her knees, and burst into tears as the guilt consumed her.

*Cough*

The boy coughed out a little bit of blood as it clung to his lips, and slowly put his hand over his chest.

Seeing the boy moving, relief washed over the sobbing woman as she instantly pulled her phone out, about to call an ambulance, but before she could, she saw the boy's bleeding body start to mend itself slowly while a green aura spiraled out of his hand, and into his body.

"Wha- a healing quirk…" she whispered to herself, and thanked god for not making her the murderer of a little boy.

"Can- Can you sp- speak?" She asked as she looked into the boy's black and green heterochromia eyes.

"Mmgh" the boy mumbled in pain, nodding his head at her question.

"Just-Just heal yourself first."

Only 7 minutes later, he was finally done, but just when the blue-haired woman was about to ask his name, he spoke first. "Who are you?" He asked in a childish voice befitting his age.

"I'm Hado Asami. And you are?" She asked, finally calming down enough to speak a sentence without stuttering.

"Akaeru."

"That's it? Just Akaeru?" But as she spoke, Kaeru passed out from the exhaustion of using his quirk.

As Akaeru opened his eyes, he was met with an almost blinding ceiling light in an all-white room, with machines beeping all around him.

The first thing he felt was fear as he remembered the true-crime shows he watched with his mother, where villains experimented on children to make use of their quirks.

But almost as soon as that thought passed through his mind, it was instantly dispelled as he looked around and realized that he was just in a hospital room, which was shown by all of the posters in his room with doctors achievements on them.

As he looked to his left, he saw the familiar blue-haired woman with her back turned towards him as she spoke on the phone.

"Well what do you want me to do then, did? The nurses say his blood doesn't match anybody in their database, and the cops said it'd take a long time to search for his parents, and even if they do find the parents, they'll most likely go to jail. I mean, they found bruises all over his body."

She paused for a moment, waiting for a response from the other party as she responded back."You know how I feel about children in orphanages. I'm not sending him there. This is the best thing I can think of."

After waiting for a response again, a smile adorned her face as she happily spoke to her sister. "Thanks for understanding."

She then turned around, looking straight at Akaeru, who was staring right back at her. Eye contact made him uncomfortable, but adults hurt him every time he didn't look at them, so he had gained the habit of not looking away from people even in awkward situations.

"You're finally awake!" She shouted out as she hung up her phone with a: "He's awake, I'll see you whenever the next holiday is. And don't tell Nejire when you bring her home. She's always wanted a little brother, so it'll be a surprise."

"I'm awake." Akaeru repeated her words in a flatter tone.

"So, Akaeru, do you want to come home with me? I'll be your new mommy!" Because of her excitement at the thought of raising a son, which she had always wanted more than a daughter in the first place, Asami got straight to the point.

Betraying his usual stoic and unchild-like demeanor, Akaeru's eyes slightly widened, not expecting such an extremely forward question.

"Will you be nice to me?" He asked.

"I'll be the nicest mommy ever, dear," she asked with her usual smile adorning her face.

"Ok then," he said, not seeing a problem with it. She looked prettier and nicer than his other mom anyways.

"Perfect!" She celebrated, jumping up and down while clasping her hands together.

A minute later, a nurse walked in, interrupting Asami's little happy moment as she put on a more serious face, her previous image replaced by a new one with someone else in the room.

"Well, um, it's a little odd to say since he was just hit by a car, but despite being extremely malnourished and dehydrated, little Akaeru over here has no fatal injuries in sight."

Asami simply smiled and said, "That's good," as she placed her hand on top of Akaeru's head, looking down at him dotingly.

"Also, since you finished the paper-work last night, this morning, the court has given you temporary custody of the child," she paused before continuing, "though temporary could mean permanently given his parent situation."

Nodding her head, Asami asked, "So when can I take him to his new home?"

"Right now as long as he feels up to it," the nurse answered.

They then both looked at Akaeru, who just nodded.

As the car started, Akaeru sat in the girly booster seat in the back, clearly meant for Asami's daughter.

"When will we be there?" Akaeru asked.

"It's not too far away. Only like 5 minutes until we get to your new home, dear."

"Mmk."

Akaeru then looked to his right, outside of the window. For some reason, the world seemed more colorful than it usually was, even with dark smoke rising up in some place from villains causing issues.

As he looked outside of the window, he saw a large crack on the glass, and as his hand hovered over it, Asami watched him from the rear view mirror in curiousity.

"One day," he mumbled to himself, but the crack remained despite the window getting cleaner.

"Two days," he mumbled again, and once again, the window just got cleaner.

"A week," he mumbled as the green spiraling light coming from his palm increased in saturation, and the crack suddenly disappeared.

He then put his head against the window, only hearing a small gasp from Asami.

'He can heal objects too? Or maybe it's not healing and I was wrong? Still, for a little boy so young, he has insane control over whatever his quirk is. Not even Nejire has that much control, and she's been praised by many teachers,' she thought to herself.

As she finished her thought, she pulled up into the parking lot in front of a high-rise condominium. Her husband owned a construction business and she owned a high-class restaurant, so the condo was well within their budget.

"We're home!" She said excitedly as she clapped her hands together to gain Akaeru's attention.

As Akaeru unbuckled his seatbelt by himself, Asami opened the door for him as he jumped down and out of the car, only to be met with the sight of a beautiful and luxurious yet modern high-rise condo.

"Big house…" he mumbled, and Asami laughed out loud, and picked him up.

Holding a seven year old child isn't all that odd, but it was almost completely foreign to Kaeru.

"What're you doing?" He asked calmly as Asami walked towards the entrance and scanned a card that let her in.

"Holding a cutie pie!"

Akaeru didn't argue anymore as he let himself be held, and paid attention to the inside of the condo, which was even more luxurious on the inside than it was on the outside. Gold adorned almost everything you could see.

As they entered and elevator in the lobby, Asami pressed the highest number on the panel, which was 15.

As the elevator dinged for every floor they rose, Asami gently put Akaeru down as the elevator opened, revealing a hallway with only one door in it, which Asami led him over to as she pulled a key out of her pocket, and opened the door.

"Nejire will be back from school in a few hours, with my sister bringing her here like usual, so until then, it's just us. Do you want to watch TV? Or play games?"

"Umm, do I have a room?" Akaeru asked somewhat timidly.

"Of course you do! It's just a guest room right now, but it'll be yours as soon as you get some posters or decorations of whatever you want in there, sweetheart!" She spoke excitedly while crouching down to reach his level of height.

"Can I just go in there?"

"Of course you can. You can do whatever you want, honey," she replied back in her usual doting tone.

"Um ok. Where is it again?" Akaeru asked.

"You see those stairs right there?" She asked, pointing towards stairs that lead to an indoor balcony, "just go up those stairs and it'll be the second door to the left. If you need any help going potty just tell me ok?"

"It's ok, I can go by myself," Akaeru said back, and started walking towards the stairs while Asami walked towards the kitchen, planning on making him something to eat.
