Unless he was going to pretend Tatiana was dead as well. That would help his agenda, and if he actually managed to get the laws changed, Tatiana could come out of hiding afterward a free vampire.

Edmund shook his head as he headed for the rear entrance to the club. Trying to figure out Ilyin’s motives had always given him a headache. It was pointless to try now when he’d most likely know in less than twenty-four hours.

The back door was propped open by Sheryl, Darby’s new waitress, smoking half-in, half-out of the club. Her dark hair was haloed by the cigarette smoke, her eyes closed as she inhaled. Edmund hadn’t said two words to the young woman since Darby had hired her, but now he frowned as he approached.

“Considering what happened to Owen, should you really be out here alone?” he asked.
