1 Memories of the Rain

"Memories of the Rain"

"It's raining again." I smiled as I stretched out my hand to feel the small beads of rain and then retracted them again.

"I wonder if I'll be able to see her today." I mused and after a few good moments,.... There she was, with her usual attire whenever we met, her red high heels and opened her peach umbrella walking towards the bus stop where I was standing alone.

"Hi, nice to meet you again." I greeted to the woman in a pencil skirt and polo shirt inserted inside her skirt whom I meet every rainy day.

"Hello! Nice to meet you too...! Again." She replied sweetly with a beautiful smile plastered on her beautiful face.

After saying our greetings to each other, we then faced the highway where the cars kept coming and going.

"Don't you have a boyfriend to drive you back home when it's raining?" I asked her without leaving my gaze from the highway.

"I doubt if he still remembers me." She replied with a smile without bothering to look at me.

I chuckled as I replied "I bet he's still thinking about you and wonders how you're doing right now."

"You really think so?" She replied with a solemn and worried expression.

"Yeah, I do. I really do think so," I said in a reassuring tone.

It suddenly fell quiet, but not the awkward kind of quiet, instead it felt like we were feeling each other's presence.

When the bus finally came, she suddenly said something which made me freeze.

"You know you're gonna have to let me go, sooner or later."

When I turned around to question or at least look at her, she was gone.

Then I looked around and realized that it stopped raining. 'How I wish it could rain a bit longer' I thought to myself.

***********

The next day, I woke up and I headed to work and by the time I arrived there, it started raining. For like the whole day. After work, I headed to the bus stop where I saw her, wearing the same clothes as yesterday.I greeted her as usual and she also greeted me back. As the bus stopped in front of us, I stopped, looked back, and waited for her to enter the bus before me.

She shook her head indicating that she won't enter.

"What are you waiting for, kid?" The bus driver asked, giving a confused look on his old and wrinkled face.

"I'm not going to ride the bus." I stated as I walked out of the bus.

"You really need to let me go now." She stated as memories of that horrible day flooded my mind.

It was a perfect and a very beautiful rainy day, and today, I'm supposed to meet my girlfriend on the bus stop.

I went to the bus stop and saw her waiting patiently on the shed. She spotted me and then smiled sweetly, she then gestured for me to come over. I came over with a smile plastered on my face, I planted a kiss on her cheeks as my greeting.

We decided to go to the other side of the road so we waited till the road was clear before walking in the pedestrian lane.

Out of the blue, a huge truck came rushing in front of us, she pushed me to the side of the road while she stood there, staring at the incoming truck. I kept screaming her name to get out of there but she stood there, her feet rooted to the ground.

The truck hit her and at that moment, I felt the world stop. The woman who was once smiling and laughing ever so sweetly was now lying on the ground, bloody. I didn't care about the truck anymore nor did I care for whether I'd get hit by another truck. I only cared for the woman I love who was now lying there unmoving. I ran to her, I didn't care about the rain, nor could I care less for whether I'd catch a cold or not. I just wanted to be with her, embrace her, tell her that everything is gonna be alright. But it didn't, when I came to her, she spoke to me her last words,

"I'm sorry for going first and leaving you behind. I'm so sorry, please forgive me." She said to me while gasping for air.

"Hey, hey, it's okay stop talking, the ambulance will be here soon. Just hold on please, hold on!" I said, tears flowing endlessly in my eyes.

She smiled bitterly "Don't blame yourself." My throat was already burning.

I didn't realize that I was already sobbing silently. I muttered 'sorry' under my breath and bid the love of my life Goodbye.
