5 Chapter 5: The start of a long journey

Our parents had a very heated conversation about if they should get us mentors or not. Father wanted to exploit our potential and talent to the fullest while mom was scared and worried about our well being, which I completely understand since we aren't even five years old yet.

After a long debate they came to an agreement "We'll at least formally have their mana cores and channels tested. We can figure out what to do from there." Mother finnaly gave up partially to dad's idea.

As my father nodded in agreement, we began making preparations the next day. We were making preparations for a three-week-long journey.

A journey via horse-drawn carriage through the Grand Mountains to a teleportation gate which will get us into a city called Xyrus.

I really love these medieval ways of transport I always saw them in manga's and wanted to ride them sometime.

Anyway!

In order to get to the city, we'd have to enter through one of the designated teleportation gates in the Grand Mountains, otherwise, it would easily take months to travel across towns to reach the gate below the actual city, which floated near the border of the Kingdom of Sapin and Darv.

One reason why my father pushed for us to go on this journey now was because his ex-party the Twin horns members had recently stopped by and were on their way to the city of Xyrus. Going now, with them, meant that we would have three augmenters and two conjurers, along my father.

Me and Art were packing what we needed for this long journey, we both took our wooden swords we used to practice with father or with each other. I filled my small bag with as many snacks as I could while he carried two or three books with him since he really loved reading apparently.

We reached the inn they were staying at in Ashber my father, after hugging his ex-party members, exclaimed, "Fellas, I want you guys to meet my two sons, Arthur and Meliodas! Go on introduce yourselfs."

Giving a slight half bow while looking up at them, Art introduced himself.

"Hello. My father has told me great things about his fellow Twin Horns members. Thank you for traveling with us to Xyrus. We'll be in your hands."

"HAHAHA, what is this? Such manners! Are you sure he's your son, Rey?" A red haired guys with lean but muscular a body, a long spear hanging on his back joked, he is the spear wielder, Adam.

"Yo! Im Meliodas nice to meet ya." I waved my hand with an indifferent face.

"This is more like Reynold's son haha." He patted and rubbed my hair.

"Awww...Aren't they just too precious? You should be glad that they doesn't look like you Reynolds."I was suddently lifted from the ground and my head was placed somewhere dark but soft. 'What happened? Who turned the lights off?'

Peeling my face away from what felt like a memory foam death trap before she suffocated me in those gigantic breasts, I took a good look at the blond woman who was trying to kill me. I saw Art laughting his ass off on me.

A strong pair of hands grabbed me by the collar whisking me away from the well-endowed woman.

"Angela, you're hurting him." a deep voice grunted, my eyes stayed fixed on the huge boobs.

Easily passing two meters in height with a staff strapped to his back, the giant carefully lowered me back onto the ground.

Dusting my clothes off, I turned to look at Art who was staring at the woman that looked slightly younger than everyone else. Straight black hair that was half-tied at the back with a ribbon complementing her red, half-open eyes and curt-looking lips, making her seem very brusque.

"Hoho? Did she pick your interest? Shishishi." I teased him.

"Shut up! It's just that she is more composed than the others." He tried to justify himself.

She seemed to slightly nod at him and then turns away.

"A woman of few words. How charming, right Art~?"

"Ugh, come on man." He rolled his eyes at me.

Art hopped onto the carriage furthest back, I saw him use mana to reinforce his legs. 'Ohh, he had gotten better at using mana I see, well I can say the same for me the difference between us is that since Im a demon I have extremly strong body compared to everyone in this world and better control over mana than him because I trained more.'

Lately, I got the hang of using my mana to reinforce my already strong body. I had yet to fully test what I was capable of, for fear of destroying everything on my way by showing off too much, but it was getting a bit more natural to direct my mana from my core through my mana channels. It is a first for me after all.

After our party finished loading in all of our travel necessities into the two carriages we were taking, we strapped in domesticated mana beasts called Skitters for transportation.

These giant lizards, with spikes across their backs and powerful claws, were D-class monsters that were a lot more efficient to use, albeit more expensive, than horses when travelling mountain terrain.

By nightfall we eventually stopped to set up camp near a small cluster of boulders. It was a good spot with the rocks blocking off nearly all of the wind and lot of scrap wood from fallen branches to use as campfire.

After setting up a couple of tents around the fire, my father and mother had begun conversing with the Twin Horns about old times when Helen sat down next to me and said nonchalantly,

"I heard your pops say that you're some kind of genius mages, while you are a better and stronger swordsman... Is it true you've already awakened?"

"Yeah, we both awakened and we are good mages, I guess." I replied biting into a piece of meat.

She began asking me how I felt when I had awakened and what color my mana core currently was while Art wasn't really into long conversations. By this time, a couple of curious ears perked up as Adam asked, "Hey Reynolds, do you mind if I test a little the kids?"

Both my father and mother seemed at least a bit hesitant at first, but trusting their old comrade in going easy on their children, my father just replied, "Alright, but be careful. I haven't had the chance to teach them how to properly fight yet. We've just been doing light strength and mana exercises till now."

Adam got up from his makeshift log seat and looked around until he found a short stick he felt satisfied with, waved it a few times and turned towards us.

"Come here Kids. Haha, let's see what you're made of!"
