15 Chapter 15: The routine

After finishing I got down stairs to find that Virion and his son the king are having a heated conversation that ended with the old man convicing him to let us reside in the elven kingdoom.

We went along Tess and Eli to Virion's friend Rinia who is diviner so that we can talk with our parents and reassure them about our safety.

While we were in the carriage, I was seated next to Arthur, and infront of us is Virion with Elizabeth sleeping to his right and Tessia in his left, both resting their heads on him.

Virion started talking. "The girls being the princesses of this kingdom have been betrayed and hurt by a lot of people pretending to be their friends, so they grew distant an cold having only each other to support." He then continued.

"In the little time I saw them with you brats, they smiled more than they have ever done in the last years, and for that I thank you and ask you to not betray their trust in you."

"Grandpa, they are our friends so we will never let them down!" Arthur clenched his fists to show how serious he was.

"Old man you can count on us." I expressed with a determined look.

"Thank you brats" he smiled softly closing his eyes in relief.

Reaching his old friend, we unfortunatly weren't able to hear our parents but the important is that we told them that we are safe and that we lied saying that both of us had an illness we got after falling from the cliff and we needed to get rid of it.

Me and Arthur cried when we were talking to them, we missed our parents so much but this sacrifice is needed to grow.

After talking with our parents we went back to the castle, now me and Art are gathered waiting for the princesses since we planned to go out to visit the city all together.

Elizabeth finnaly came out of her room wearing a blue sleeveless sundress that went really good with her eye color.

"Took you long enough." I placed my hands on my waist.

"I was getting dressed, anyways Hurry, let's hurry!" She grabbed my hand, half dragging me barely keeping up with her pace. I looked at Arthur and saw him being dragged in the long stairs of the castle entrance.

Seeing the city once again didn't distill the amazement I had when I had first arrived. As we got off the carriage and start walking, we took time to visit the numerous stalls and stores that the city had to offer.

While the four of us were met with a lot of stares from the fact that human childs are holding hands with their kingdom's princesses, it was a feeling I was used to since my previous life people were throwing those gazes at me because I was working at a young age instead of going to school so it didn't bother me.

What bothered me, however, was that, while most of these gazes only held curiosity, some stares were filled with blatant hostility.

Coming out of the armor shop, I had just moved out of the way for someone when an elven child bumps my shoulder.

"Hmph! Well if it isn't the human brats that Elder Virion has taken under. I've heard all about you. Gross, I got human germs on my clothes," he snidely remarked, a look of disgust pasted on his face.

It is fairly obvious by the clothes of this child, who couldn't be much older than Tess, and the attendants, along with the group of friends following behind him, that he was a noble.

After spending so much time with Art and Tess and Elizabeth, I had almost forgotten how immature children were. I couldn't help but think that, whether they were an elf or a human or even other worlder, spoiled nobles always seemed to act as if they've been taught out of the same manual.

He then turned to face Elizabeth and Tess, his face transforming into a well-practiced smile as he offered her his hand. "Princesses, it is below your level to be with these human brats. Allow me to escort you around." He urged, expecting Elizabeth to receive his hand.

Not even looking in his direction, she linked her arm with mine and coldly retorted, "Mel, let's go. There is a bug in that direction and I don't want to accidentally step on it with my new shoes."

Tess shouted from behind. "Let's just ignore this idiot and continue our visit, *sigh* we were having fun." She murmured the last four words.

Before leaving, I wanted to make fun of him a little bit. "You know, there is nothing worse for a man to get roasted in public by the girl he likes, other than getting roasted by two, now see you later loser." I turned alongside Elizabeth to leave, glancing back and shooting the noble kid an evil smile that held a sort of pity, which seemed to infuriate him even more.

"Hold it brat! I'm not done with you!" He shouted, running up to me and gripping my shoulder.

'Yes, that is exactly what I wanted!' I tired to stop the evil smile from coming out.

"I heard you're pretty talented for a human mage. Around here, I happen to be a pretty well known genius myself. My mana core has already reached red stage and aside from water manipulation, my mother said that I'll soon even be able to manipulate plants!"

I responded with my most blatantly sarcastic expression of disapointement. "Oh my, red stage? is that what you call genius? You seem pretty average to me though!"

Art and the princesses let out a giggle, not even bothering to hide their amusement.

"I'll be sure to not even remember such a stupid and naive boy who is calling himself a genius just for that." I continued

Instead of responding, a handkerchief flew past us landing on the ground, the noble brat's face, red as a tomato, glaring at me as the attendants and friends all let out quiet gasps.

"How dare you initiate a duel with the disciple of Elder Virion. You may be of noble blood, Feyrith, but you should still know your place! Take it back," Tessia stepped in and ordered, her eyes narrowed in a glare.

"I'm sorry, Princess, but my father has taught me never to let my pride be stomped especially by a lowly human. Meliodas, ready yourself for a duel or retreat with your tail between your legs knowing that your actions reflect your mentor as well. The choice is yours." Feyrith puffed his chest, withdrawing a wand from under his cape.

"Its okay Tess, its good to move my articulation from time to time." I reassured her.

Some of the people nearby had overheard and had already started to gather around us. The princesses looked uncertain about all of this, but Arthur nodded his head and took a few steps away from us pulling the girls with him.

I didn't want to cause a scene since I was a visitor, but after months of stifling meditation, my body was actually eager for the chance to fight.

"Princess, please do the honor of initiating the duel." The noble brat said as he began polishing his black wand with his sleeve.

I could see Elizabeth rolling her eyes as she took another step back. "Let the duel commence!"

Thanks to my mana core that was in the solid red stage, I could feel mana strengthening every fiber of muscle I flexed as I dashed towards Feyrith.

It was over in a second. He was too cocky and didn't even take the necessary precautions to find out whether I was an augmenter or conjurer and by the time I was in arm's length, he hadn't even begun his chant.

As my palm sank into his left cheek, all he managed to let out was a sharp breath before flying right side, I catched him from the collar and pulled him back to me as I slapped the shit out of him on the other cheek using the back of my hand. Letting him go, he fell on his face with his butt up in the air.

"Ouuuh, embarassiiiing." Art said, reminding me of Drake when he accidently showed his weird picture on live.

Feyrith's attendants and friends eyes grew wide as Elizabeth quickly ran to me and pulled me away.

Later, Elizabeth explained to me that, in a duel, there were certain unsaid customs. One of these customs was to let the challenger make the first move. The other was that informal duels between nobles were only a demonstration of magic, not actual fighting.

This got a good laugh out of the old man when he found out, saying that the duels between nobles were utter foolishness and a completely inaccurate way to measure someone's magical prowess.

And on top of that im still not that proficent in magic yet. All in all, what Feyrith had meant when he initiated the duel was to simply take turns showing off each other's respective magic talent.

It was disappointing to realize that the look of shock from everyone around us wasn't from my fighting prowess, but from the fact that I ignored the customs of the duel.

Since then, I chose to stay in the manor most of the days keeping myself out of trouble, as I lived a rigorous lifestyle that consisted of beast will assimilation and sparing with Arthur and the old man in the morning to gain experience.

Spending a little time with Elizabeth in the afternoon and training my manacore when I am alone at night. During this time, we've sent messages to my parents every once in a while to let them know we were still alive and that we miss them dearly.

Like this, three years had passed.
