Chapter 48_ Vaccination Incoming

Medusa

***

At first, when Mackenzie was all serious and scary, I thought it was going to get rough between her and Mia because indeed Mia had doubted her secretly and openly when she told me she wanted to save me from her but I was guilty too. I doubted Mackenzie all because she was able to get hold of her powers so well in a short period.

l had forgotten she could just be gifted in that aspect. Certainly, there were students in the school who would be fast and catch up fast better than others. It was unfair on her part that we were all so suspicious of her after she has been a good friend and hadn't done anything to hurt us.

Maybe the look she shot Mia wasn't a scary and devious one but a pained and disappointed one. I am glad anyway, glad that it was thrown under the carpet now and everyone was smiling again.

" Medusa, you're not eating? Mackenzie asked me. Her concern just now made me wonder how I could have ever doubted this innocent girl. I felt bad and miserable. Later, I and Mia need to come clean with her and tender our apology.

I wasn't going to eat a leftover cronut from yesterday. I had no intention of doing so that was why I finished the cronuts and didn't take too many from the kitchen. "I don't have any left, I ate it all " I shrugged.

"So you're not eating ?" this time, it was Mia who asked. It really felt good to have friends who cares.

"I'm not, it's fine. I'm not that hungry" I said getting out of bed now to go brush my teeth and take a refreshing shower maybe my pounding head would reduce.

I started undressing and felt a shadow over me. I looked up immediately and saw Mackenzie holding out a cheeseburger. "I took too much yesterday, you can have one," she said.

I wanted to tell her I do not have the intention of eating the food prepared yesterday without being microwaved or stored properly. " So you will just starve? " Mackenzie replied my thoughts. " Ok, then starve. I remember the way you were reprimanding me for taking too much yesterday. Why am l even offering you this" she was going back to sit on her bed now.

"Mackenzie, it's not sisterly to read your roommates thoughts without their permission" I scolded.

"You better take it, no sneaking to the kitchen anymore" Senior Eira warned.

Oh shit, come to think of it, I was going to truly starve for real. " But..." I wanted to query then decided it would be better to eat the food from yesterday than not to eat at all "Ok Mackenzie, thanks for the offer.... I will take it" I said now extending my hand forward signaling to her to place the cheeseburger on it.

After about 30 seconds, my hand was still dangling in the air. " Mackenzie " I called. She was the one who offered to share her cheeseburger, why was my hand stll in the air then, without the cheeseburger on it.

" What? I changed my mind" she said nonchalantly.

"You don't mean it, do you?" I threw my hands up frustratingly. "I said I will take it now.

" I'm only nice once. If you do not appreciate my good heart once, I will take back my offer. I dont give second chances" Mackenzie replied me playfully turring her neck to the other side and her head slightly raised.

Mia chirped in with sarcasm in her voice " No Mackenzie, you've always been nice haven't you?"

"Hey shut up madam goody" Mackenzie met her sarcasm with a double time sarcastic reply.

I clapped my hands playfully " Oh, madam goody. I like that name" I shouted excitedly.

" Medusa, really? Even when I was trying to defend you? Mia raised her hand and rolled her eyes simdtaneously. Mackenzie was the one who wanted to feed me not Mia so I'm going with Mackenzie. " Defend yourself Mia love. Oops! Forgive me, Madam goody" I shrieked and ran over to snatch the cheeseburger Mackenzie was about to stuff in her mouth.

" What?" she rasped then turned to senior Eira. " Senior Eira, "what can we do about this girl" she asked the senior out of annoyance rhetorically. Senior Eira only laughed. Our dramas always seemed to amuse her.

" Why did you refuse the food in the first place ?" serior Eira asked out of the blue.

I was a little surprised she was asking but I managed to answer "I don't like to eat food from the day before" I answered casually

"I see... But when you start eating food from the floor on missions, then you will know this is a luxury"

What?

"What type of mission wodd require students to eat food they picked

on the floor? That's gross" I turned around to check out if my ears were perhaps mishearing but they weren't. It was Mia and she was speaking to the senior directly.

Like wow!

" Journeys like going to a deserted forest with demons that has been taunting a little town" senior Eira answered her. I admire the senior's level of maturity. She didn't take it to heart that Mia had been disrespectful to her and would reply to her whenever she spoke to her and even when she didn't. My respect for her grew by the minute."

Something like that" senior Eira concluded.

Forest with demons rampaging a little town? My stomach churned, I dont want to go on missions like that. We ate in slence the rest of the breakfast that was more like lunch because it was the afternoon already.

" Students, brace yourselves to get vaccinated. Our medical staff will be at your doorstep soon. After that, lunch will be delivered. Don't forget we only have to go through this for one more day. Tomorrow, we will all be out after disinfecting has been done. Thank you" the voice over announced.

"Finally" Mia shrieked.

Yeah, finally. But wait.. We are not getting vaccinated, our names weren't recorded.

It was as though we planned it because both I and Mackenzie turned to face the senior " Senior Eira?" we chorused.

"I told you we will get vaccinated, trust me," she said confidence beaming in her voice.

I sensed another mischief under senior Eira's sleeve. "How?" I asked with a frown.

" We stay" she answered.

" Stay?"

"Yes "

Mackenzie jumped into our conversation " Please enough of the stay session. What is your plan" she asked serior Eira directly.

"When they come, we remain in the room and leave the rest to me. Just make sure to flow with the conversation and support anything I say" she explained.

" Even if you put the blame on us and use your seniority influence to subtract yourself from the whole mess?" Mackenzie blurted. What? We all turned to face her immediately. What was she spewing?

That senior Eira would implicate us to save herself?

Never, she woud never do that. All she had done so far was to look out for us.

When she saw our glances and the look they carried, she suddenly bursts out laughing.

"Chill guys, I'm joking okay?" she rolled her eyes. I wish I could join her in laughing but I thought what she said wasn't hilarious.

"Yeah, right" Mia whispered but it was audible enough for us to hear her.

Mackenzie, stop being gloomy already" I scoffed. Noises from outside diverted our attention.

"What's with the noises?" Mia asked in wonder.

Senior Eira moved to the door and opened it a little. She peeped through the nominal space. " They're here" she whispered when she shut the door slently, taking care not to make any sound. I became shaken up both internally and externally.

"What do we do? What do we say?" I rushed the questions. "For one, stop acting like you're a bandit on the run" senior Eira eyed me.

Mackenzie also scolded and I felt like I was being timid but I could not help it. What if they found out we didn't get tested and that we stole from the kitchen amongst other thing:?

" Medusa, one glance at you and they would find out we're lying" I hate it when Mackenzie acts like she's more mature than the rest of us. " Mackenzie I beg of you, let me be. I am not super girl like you okay?!" I hollered sarcastically.

" Guys, we don't need this right now. Let's cooperate and get our vaccination in peace" senior Eira called us to order then turned to me "Trust me, okay"

I nodded in affirmation. lt was a nod that shouts 'I trust you serior Eira, you will get us through this unscratched'

"They are in the first rooms and would soon get to us. We were not able to go through the portal and then we heard the voice-over announce the vaccination so we decided to find somewhere to stay in order to get vaccinated and during our vast search for an empty room in the dormitories, we found this room that has only one occupant and we joined okay?" senior Eira instructed.

Oh, that was her plan? That lame plan?

"Not okay senior Eira, it's lame. They won't even believe us" I said as soon as she finished speaking.

"Don't forget I'm a top student." was all she had to say to justify her lame plan.

"Will they believe it?" Mackenzie asked her.

She sighed, obviously getting tired of explaining to us " Oh and one more thing " she pointed out "Teacher Zane is with them"

All black? Okay... I'm out.Medusa
