Chapter 3

I couldn't tell if the smile he gave me was real or fake but it made me feel something. I don't know whether it was guilt or pain but I don't want to feel this way. I don't want to feel like I did something. My first day at a new school and I'm already making people hate me. Way to go, Allison, I think to myself. I turn around to see if he is still standing there but he isn't. Damn, I didn't even get his name. A minute later I hear the bell ring and students start pouring into the hallway I'm in. I stay close to the door and try to see if it's unlocked but it isn't. Damn it, I wish there weren't a lot of students at this school. At least I could get more space at my other school.

"Excuse me. Excuse me." I hear someone say, I look in front of me and see a man around the age 40 looking back at me. I move out of the way so he's able to unlock the classroom door, once it's open I rush inside and find a seat before anyone else. Once all the students get in the classroom some are are looking at me like I don't belong there. I feel a person tap my shoulder and I look around to see that it's Charlotte.

"It's so good to see you," she says, sitting down next to me.

"Yeah you too," I say. I look around and find the same guy who I yelled at earlier and guilt immediately washes over me. I get up and walk over to him.

"Listen, I know that you said you should be sorry but you shouldn't. I've just been having a bad morning and I shouldn't have taken it out on you so again I'm sorry." I say. He looks up at me and I see a small grin appear on his face.

"I forgive you, now go sit down before Mr. Edwards comes and says something to us." He says smiling. I smile back at him and hurry over to my seat before the teacher can say anything to me.

"Good morning class. I hope your weekend went well. Today we have a new student who transferred from George high school, so I hope you guys would make her feel welcome here. Now, take out your textbooks and turn to page 20. This is the assignment you will be working on during class. Do numbers 1-20, and then when you're done with that I want you to take your 1.3 notes. When you're done with everything you may start on the homework which I will give to you in 30 minutes. If you need help feel free to ask." He says. I look down at my textbook that I just received and it looks huge. How is the teacher going to teach all the lessons in this book? I look around the class to see all the students talking out their pencils and I'm assuming the homework from the night before. My eyes land on the guy I yelled at and he looks back at me. Soon I see him get up with his things and he walks over to me. I instantly look back at the book in front of me.

"Hey, new girl, do you maybe want to work together?" He asks

"Oh you don't have to say new girl, just call me Allison." I say.

"Allison, I like the sound of that. That's a very pretty name." He says.

"Thank you and sure we can work together. What's your name?" I ask

"Call me David." He says sitting down next to me.
