Chapter 4

Arriving at my favorite spot, I sat down by the lake. I pondered how to begin my training. After a few minutes of deep contemplation, an idea struck me – to create different elements. I raised my hand and conjured a water sphere, but attempts to freeze it proved unsuccessful. Undeterred by the setback, I persisted. This time, I used air to shape the ice, although it still consumed a considerable amount of mana, eventually leading me to cancel the spell.

Following a brief rest, I attempted once more. This time, it was more successful; I expended less mana and could create ice more quickly. Nonetheless, I sensed something was missing, though uncertain what. After hours of experimentation with new elements, lying on the ground, I observed eight different elements floating before me: the four basics – water, fire, earth, and air; and the four new ones – storm, magma, ice, and thunder.

As I marveled at these magical manifestations, I felt a void, both in the new elements and the fundamentals. I noticed gaps that had eluded my attention before, deeply concealed. With night falling, I rose and slowly made my way back to my room.

The next day I got up, had breakfast, and then left the room and headed towards my mother's quarters. After a few minutes of walking I came to the door and knocked. A moment later, I heard my mother's voice: "Come in." When I entered, I found my mother sitting, Loki present beside her. "Good morning, mother. Brother," I greeted them as I approached the vacant chair. "Do you need anything my son?" Frigga asked. "Loki told me yesterday that you were going to teach him magic, so I came," I replied. My mother looked at me in surprise and said, "You've never come to learn magic with me before; you've always practiced alone. You seem to have encountered a problem in magic." I could only answer with a shy smile.

After our conversation was over, my mother began to instruct me in the art of illusion magic. Several hours passed as she taught me various magical techniques. Now I'm in my room, lying on the bed, I've been practicing illusion and shapeshifting magic. I noticed that there was no problem, unlike elemental magic. I thought for a few minutes, trying to remember why this was the case. When I realized that night had fallen, I stopped practicing magic and fell asleep.

I opened my eyes, facing the rising sun, and the light flashed towards me. I lay still for a few minutes, got up and headed for the toilet. After the job was done, I left the room and noticed the maid bringing me food. I told her I wanted to eat somewhere else and she bowed and left. Searching for Thor, I came to a spacious chamber where he was already dining with his friends. I joined them, greeted Thor and sat down next to him.

After finishing my meal, I asked Thor, "Brother, do you want to fight?" Thor happily agreed and together we headed towards the arena. We stood in front of each other, while Thor's friends went to the side. We prepared for the battle and then we started the reckoning.

Thor threw Mjolnir at me, but I used wind magic to change the direction of the weapon. We fought for a few minutes and then I noticed that Thor was creating lightning with the intention of hitting me. Then I remembered my new thunder magic.

I watched as the lightning approached, trying to control it but to no avail. Focused on that lightning, I didn't notice Thor's second attack with Mjolnir. Lightning and Mjolnir were attacking me, I created various defenses, I defended myself from the lightning, but Mjolnir went through them and hit me in the chest. I flew a few meters, I didn't have time to think about the next move.

"Brother, what happened to you?" Thor asked me as he approached me. I could only sigh, struggling to get up after the impact. "Brother, how do you create lightning?" I asked, to which Thor replied curiously. I thought about Thor's instinctive use of lightning and then remembered the information from the book.

Intending to try a different approach, I raised my hand and tried to start the fire naturally. I felt something new, mixing with my magic, and the fire that appeared was more powerful than ever before. "Why is the flame stronger?" Thor asked me as I just looked at him and put out the flames.

Aware of the end of the battle, I slowly made my way towards the room, thinking about the failure of Thor's lightning control and the discovery of new powers.

I entered my room and noticed a table with a bottle of wine and a glass. I poured myself a glass and sipped the wine slowly, gazing out of the window. I pondered on why I couldn't control Thor's lightning. After a while, I remembered my father mentioning laws and concepts in magic. It meant that I, too, had a law of magic, while Thor had the law of thunder. If Thor's thunder power was high due to the law governing thunder, mine should be low. Realizing this, I sighed.

As I finished the glass of wine and walked towards the bed, I sat in a meditation position, attempting to sense the energy I had felt before. After a few minutes of meditation, the sensation returned, and I tried to trace its origin. I noticed it was present all around me, leading me to contemplate it as the very essence of nature. Then, I attempted to merge this power with my mana. After several unsuccessful tries, I persisted. Hours passed, but I finally succeeded. If my mana appeared colorless before, now it displayed various hues.

"It seems each color represents a different aspect of nature," I thought, observing my mana. Sweating from the effort, I decided to take a bath. After a few minutes, I emerged from the bathroom and looked through the window, realizing it was already night. Exhausted, I went to sleep immediately.
