46 Chapter 46: They Made the First Move

Oaks watched from the rooftop as the unlucky guy was wrapped up like a dumpling by a bunch of vines in just three seconds.

"Number 6! What's happening? Answer! Number 6!"

Urgent calls came through the communicator, but unfortunately, Number 6, the unlucky guy, couldn't move anymore.

The communicator only picked up a short gasp, followed by faint struggling and the sound of something moving...

One block away from here, a regular small van was parked by the roadside. Inside, the leader of this operation furrowed his brow and put down the communicator.

"Number 6 messed up. Damn it, I told him not to be careless!"

"Captain, what's the story behind that charity organization?"

Three other team members were by his side. This time, they were simply carrying out a run-of-the-mill kidnapping mission.

"It's just a plaything for the wealthy. This kind of thing is not uncommon."

The captain's face showed a hint of disdain.

"At first, I hesitated to take this job because of the behemoth backing behind this charity organization. But now, even its backer is in trouble—Number 7, you drive directly to the target area, and this time, heavy firepower is allowed!"

A fierce glint flashed in his eyes.

"After we finish this job, we'll have enough to live comfortably for the rest of our lives!"

"Yes, Captain!"

The mercenary team, which had set a strange flag, hurriedly made their way to the headquarters of the Benevolence Society. Meanwhile, Oaks, with the unlucky guy Number 6, who was bound like a dumpling, went straight to Melinda.

"Mel, there's work to be done."

"Hmm? What's that?"

Melinda was organizing a plan when she saw Oaks dragging the dumpling in. She raised an eyebrow in surprise.

"So, you're into bondage play, Oaks?"

"...This is an intruder, Mel. Moco and Coco found him."

Oaks kicked the dumpling towards Melinda.

"He still has accomplices outside. They should be here soon. I'll go check. This guy can stay with you. I trust you're much better at taking statements and such."

Seeing Melinda smile as expected, Oaks silently mourned for the dumpling for a second before adding fuel to the fire.

"Besides, this is the scene you're overseeing, Mel. If it were me, I definitely wouldn't tolerate it."

"Nonsense, this scene is under my watch, but it clearly belongs to you."

Melinda rolled her eyes and put away the files in her hands. She kicked the dumpling a couple of times.

"Untie him. He can't even move, and it'll take effort to unravel him."

Oaks snapped his fingers, and the vines slowly unraveled, revealing the unconscious Number 6.

"He's all yours, Mel. I'll take my leave."

"No problem."

Oaks left, and Melinda took out her phone to make a call.

"Coulson? Someone has invaded the scene I was overseeing. Now, I suspect that the target they're after is the one you're overseeing...

Yes, that's right. Come over, bring a few people..."

"Boom!"

A loud noise rang out, and Melinda grinned.

"Just come to collect the bodies directly."

As Oaks reached the entrance, he heard a loud noise. A van crashed through the front gate.

"Seriously, do villains nowadays lack brains?"

He waved off the members of the Benevolence Society who rushed over upon hearing the commotion:

"Hide in the treehouse and don't let anyone come out.."

"But, Chairman, those guys..."

"Don't worry, they're as good as dead today."

A stern look flashed in Oaks' eyes as he stood his ground. Several thick vines suddenly sprouted from the ground under the van and swiftly wrapped it up, immobilizing it completely in the blink of an eye.

"What the hell is this?"

The back of the van opened, and the captain, along with two armed teammates, rushed out. However, Number 7 in the driver's seat wasn't so lucky.

The doors were bound shut and couldn't be opened.

"Damn it!"

He desperately pressed down on the accelerator, and the engine roared, trying to break free from the vines' restraints.

But even thicker vines emerged, lifting the entire van off the ground. No matter how powerful the engine was, the wheels spun helplessly.

Number 7 had no choice but to smash the window glass and prepare to jump out of the vehicle—

But what awaited him was a frenzy of vines rushing in, filling the driver's cabin to the brim!

As Number 7's screams gradually drowned in the vines that filled the cabin, the captain, along with Number 8 and Number 9, shuddered despite being fully armed.

What on earth is this?!

"Stop! I'm telling you to fucking stop!"

The captain aimed his submachine gun at Oaks, who stood there calmly, observing the chaos. He had realized that this peculiar situation was caused by that guy!

"Red-haired? Damn it! Are you a wizard? Ha! I'd like to see if you're afraid of bullets!"

The captain regretted it a little.

Originally, his plan was to have Number 7 drive in, attracting the attention of the guards who might have caused Number 6's failure. The three of them would then sneak in from the side and go straight for the target.

But who could have expected that they would be dumbfounded as soon as they entered the door!

This red-haired guy is the chairman of the Benevolence Society, and the information stated that he's a scientist!

How the hell is this possible with science?

"All of you, coming to our Benevolence Society headquarters like this is not a friendly gesture."

Oaks seemed oblivious to the three submachine guns aimed at him. He carefully examined the three of them.

"The guy earlier was with you guys, right? Who sent you?"

"You dream if you think you can get information from me!"

Seeing that the terrifying vines were confined to the vicinity of the entrance gate, the captain seemed to regain some confidence. He sneered and shook the gun in his hand.

"Now, hand over Ho Yinsen!!"

The captain's tone was firm.

"We don't want any trouble. Hand him over, and we'll leave immediately!"

"What about your two companions?"

Oaks tilted his head slightly and saw Antonio and Dr. Yinsen at the entrance of the treehouse. Blaze was waving his cane, warning off other overly curious individuals.

When Yinsen, upon hearing that the enemy had come for him, was about to step forward, Blaze and Antonio firmly held him back.

"They're here for me! I'll go out, and they shouldn't harm anyone else!"

"You mustn't, Dr. Oaks will handle it!"

"Dr. Yinsen, Chairman Oaks is not an ordinary person. Just watch."

Oaks turned his head and shrugged.

"What if I don't hand him over?"

"Then I'll kill you and find him myself!"

The captain growled lowly and chose to open fire—this chairman was too strange. It was better to end this quickly...

"Boom!"

His submachine gun exploded.

From the exploded barrel, lush green branches sprouted—it had completely blocked the entire barrel!

The atmosphere became unusually quiet.

The captain's hands were covered in blood from the explosion. He had intended to surrender, but a thick vine pierced him from behind.

Amidst his screams of agony, the other two teammates were also disarmed and impaled, falling to the ground.

"This... is self-defense."

Oaks looked at Coulson, who had entered with a group of people, and shrugged.

"They made the first move."
