36 Chapter 36: A More Eco-friendly Name

Nick Fury pulled out his credit card and slammed it hard on the table.

He was starting to feel that if he didn't pay, he might not be able to leave the store.

The enormous cheetah on the other side transformed into a small bird again under a faint glow.

Hmm, it was clearly the kind of bird that flies very fast because it stopped on his bald head with a blink of an eye.

"Damn, a little slippery!"

"Hey!"

Nick Fury irritably patted his bald head, and the bird appeared on the opposite side again.

"Well, now I know why you were able to travel to and from the Amazon without any records of entry or flights!"

A small bird like this, even the most advanced radar can't catch it, okay!

And would this be an ordinary bird?

Who the hell can tell him if ordinary cheetahs can turn invisible?!

"That's so cool, buddy!"

Tony was completely calm now. As someone who might be the first to detect Nature Energy, his interdisciplinary acceptance was exceptionally high.

"Can you transform into anything else?"

"I can, but I won't show. Also not every animal can be transformed into."

Oaks transformed back into his human form and sat down next to Tony. Nick Fury twitched the corner of his mouth and went to fetch a chair to sit down.

"You really surprised me, Mr. Oaks."

His eyes were almost turning green now.

The principle behind the ability? That wasn't even within the considerations of this top agent.

He only cared about what the other person's abilities could accomplish and whether they could be controlled.

In Nick Fury's eyes, Oaks was a perfect template for an agent.

He could communicate with animals through a psychic connection, possessed exceptional intelligence capabilities;

He could manipulate plants and even develop special plants, possessing strong support abilities;

He could transform into a beast with unique abilities, with formidable combat capabilities—

Especially that invisibility, it was the ability that all spies and assassins dreamt of!

Yes, SHIELD had technology capable of optical invisibility, but it couldn't be used as personal equipment!

And the fact that the person was an outstanding scientist who could even help boost SHIELD's reputation—

Although SHIELD probably wouldn't need to boost its reputation if Tony didn't cause trouble.

In comparison, the Hulk... heh.

He was the head of an agency, not a military general. He didn't care at all whether a super-soldier could be replicated—

Under his command, an agent with special abilities could accomplish things that a group of mindless super-soldiers couldn't!

"So, you modified yourself?"

Fury pinched his chin, with Bruce Banner's example right there. Scientists did some strange things to themselves, and it was no longer surprising to him.

"An experimental mishap, well, my experiments were for the cause of environmental preservation—"

"I wanted to give myself a 'nature-friendly' constitution, something like the 'Elven' race from mythology.

If successful, I could gain a more genuine perspective to understand the essence of life and solve the problem of the shrinking ecosystem and diminishing regenerative capabilities."

Oaks successfully diverted the attention of both Fury and Tony with his nonsense, and even Antonio leaned in curiously.

"Elven constitution? Like in 'The Lord of the Rings'? Oh, sorry..."

"Ahem, obviously, I failed, but not completely.

Did you know that in Celtic mythology, there's a class of divine practitioners who are advocates of nature and neutrality? They use their special powers to protect nature and bring balance to the world.

It is said that they can harness the power of nature to bring bountiful harvests, heal wounds, communicate with animals, and even transform into animals to spread the will of the gods.

They are well-versed in geography, natural sciences, medicine, and astrology, which is also known as astronomy, while serving as disseminators of knowledge..."

"Druids?"

Tony raised his phone, having already found a bunch of information:

"Damn! I just found out today that Halloween is related to them!"

"That's right."

Oaks waved his finger, enveloped in a green glow, and lush green grass slowly grew on the four-segmented sofa.

"So, you can also call me a Druid."

"...That fits perfectly."

Tony put his phone back in his pocket. Almost all the traits of the legendary Druids could be found in Oaks, and he even had Celtic ancestry.

"I think you could start a new religion, the Chosen One? Hmm?"

"Not interested. I don't believe in theology."

Oaks shrugged his shoulders.

"The gods in Earth's legends are just beings with special abilities, slightly more powerful individuals or special creatures. It's surprising that you, a scientist, still think otherwise."

"Best not to be interested!"

Nick Fury spoke with irritation. If Oaks really wanted to start a religion, it would be a big problem with his current abilities.

"I've approved the involvement with the Benevolence Society, but as for you, Oaks... I hope you'll join the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division."

"Not interested."

Oaks promptly refused.

"I'm used to being free. I won't be at the beck and call of Director Fury all the time. The current relationship is fine."

"And your organization's name is not environmentally friendly at all. It's tiring to hear, let alone write."

"Just call us SHIELD."

Nick Fury finally decided to give his organization an abbreviation, but he couldn't bear Oaks' mockery.

"Is that eco-friendly enough?"

"Not bad."

Oaks nodded in satisfaction, giving Tony a look that said, "See how awesome I am." Tony, fearing that the world wouldn't be chaotic enough, applauded.

"Well done!"

Nick Fury ignored Tony's provocation and reiterated with a cold face:

"I'm not inviting you to become an agent. Training a qualified SHIELD agent requires a lot of effort and not everyone is capable of it—even superhumans!

But at the very least, you should have a record with SHIELD. I will consider hiring you as a consultant."

"A consultant?"

Oaks raised an eyebrow. "The kind that doesn't have to punch a timecard?"

"Hey! Buddy, you rejected my offer to be my personal health consultant!"

Tony protested loudly, "I was going to offer you a salary of five million dollars! How much does SHIELD offer you?"

"...Five million is absolutely impossible!"

Nick Fury almost spewed out blood. This damn rich guy!

"The budget of SHIELD has to be spent in appropriate areas. We are civil servants! It's impossible to provide such outrageous treatment to a consultant!"

"Well, I figured."

Oaks chuckled and high-fived Tony.

"It seems they can't afford me."

"Hahaha..."

Antonio's eyes nearly popped out. Mr. Oaks rejected a job with a five million dollar annual salary?!

And now he was turning down an invitation from this prestigious international organization!

Mr. Oaks, a true comrade of the proletariat...

"But I can send a representative to work at the Benevolence Society as a liaison officer with SHIELD."

Nick Fury saw Oaks' serious expression and secretly felt pleased. He thought, "This Director still has you under control, don't I?"

"You should understand the significance of this arrangement."

Of course, Oaks understood.

This meant that the Benevolence Society would be seen as more than just a subsidiary of SHIELD in the eyes of the outside world.

Although this would subject them to direct surveillance by Nick Fury, it also meant that they could not only carry the banner of SHIELD but also, to some extent, truly leverage the power of SHIELD.

"Deal."

A consultant position in exchange for the protection until SHIELD's downfall. It was a highly advantageous arrangement in Oaks' plan.
