"Renova!"

She swiftly looked up from her phone, yanking her earphones out of her ears. "Did you call me?" She asked her friend who sat across her.

What she saw on the phone screen Cara was holding up made her drop her brows to roll her eyes.

"C'mon! I've done my research and he's rich and probably caring with the looks. Isn't he cute?" Cara praised the guy on her screen.

"I've told you I want no one. I'm good". Renova repeated the words she'd been reciting each time cara tried to set her up with a guy. She didn't want any man..not now and probably not ever.

"Nova, stop being aromatic and hang out. People are different. Fine, you don't want a mate who is probably out there dying to find you but will you forever stay alone?" She stood up, stepping forward at the end of each sentence. She was at it again.

Cara was the only friend Renova had since she ran away from the last person who'd aggressively beat her occasionally. Cara was human but she knew almost everything about werewolves... probably more than her. Cara loved reading and had probably read all she needed to know about werewolves from her phone and computer. She was the only one who knew about Nova too.

A non shifter who ran away from her pack.

"I'm not being aromatic. Just don't wanna hang out". She stood up from her bed and walked past Cara who was still hell-bent on getting her out of her apartment.

"Because you're scared you'll find him?" Cara asked, stopping Nova on her tracks.

Finding him?....Never. She'd let herself get killed than to meet him. She didn't want to be held down by some dominating werewolf her whole life. "I'd stab him in the neck if I set my eyes on him. The moon goddess knows I've suffered enough. Wouldn't it be a pleasant gift for a useless werewolf like me to be mateless?"

"No. It'll be a pathetic one. Just like a year ago when you had your heat".

"Oh please don't bring that up". Nova rolled her eyes hard, discarding the memory.

"Who was that you eventually had sex with...er..was it ca–"

"Stop!"

"Oh! Trevor!" She bursted into laughter.

Yeah funny.

"Thanks to you who dragged me to that fucking club!" Nova flung the nearby object towards Cara. "I should have known that was your plan."

"Trevor kept calling me the whole week. He wanted to meet you again". She settled on the bed.

"It was embarrassing". She murmured.

"Yeah but you liked it". Cara teased her.

Nova smiled as she ran her fingers through her dark brown hair slowly. "Do you mind picking up some groceries with me later?" Her eyes came in contact with the sprays on her dressing mirror. "And my cover-up spray is done. Need to meet zila for a new one".

"Why did you decide to live in a town surrounded by werewolf packs when you don't want to be spotted by one?"She asked. "You should be living in a country with no pack if you really want to stay away from them".

"I don't know, Carasson. My instinct keeps pulling me back here. Maybe a part of me don't want to leave here."

"Because your mate is hiding behind those woods?"

"Of course not!" She snapped. "I can bet my life on it that he's not anywhere around here. He's probably in another country in one of those little packs. He'll never find me".

"You can't te—" Her phone dinged, interrupting her. "God! Grandma!" She said through gritted teeth as she flung her phone after reading the message.

Nova chuckled, knowing her grandma had probably messed with her things again. "What is it this time?"

"I told you Grandma took my watch and went camping in the woods with her friends right?"

Nova nodded.

"She's lost it. She can't find the watch again". She buried her face in her palm to push back the tears that were forming. The wristwatch wasn't just a wristwatch. Her first boyfriend gave it to her six years ago before he died of cancer two years ago. Though they broke up the same year they dated but it was still the gift she cherished most.

"Where was it last seen? In the woods?" Nova asked.

"Guess so". She lifted her head and sniffed in a little as she wiped her non-existing tears. " I have to find it". She stood up. "I have to go to where she camped". She took her phone and texted her grandma.

Nova looked out the window and glanced at the clock on her wall. It was eleven minutes past eight and it was dark outside. She couldn't be serious. "Hey, Cara it's dark already. Why don't we look for it tomorrow?" Nova suggested softly.

"Grandma's been back from camping two days ago and just remembered she left my wristwatch. What if something happens tonight". She searched for her shoes restlessly. "Damn! It's not even waterproof!"

Nova rolled her eyes. "It won't rain, okay. Who knows what's out in the woods. It's a creepy one and it's really dangerous. We should go in the morning". She tried to get into Cara's head but she wasn't even pretending to listen.

Her phone dinged again and she rushed over to Nova. She shoved a picture of her grandma and her friends in her face. "It's this area. You're going to help me find it right? You...you have heightened sense of smell..so...so we can find quicker".

"Calm down. Relax. Breathe in". Nova took the phone from her and observed the area . There was hardly any leaf on the sandy ground and the forest wasn't thick either. The trees were tall and spaced. The surrounding was beautiful and Nova hoped a day would come when she'd sit and worry about nothing on that spot.

"Let's go". Cara said.

"What...no. I'm not going with you this night." She crossed her arms.

"Please. Please". She pulled the hem of her pink crop top lightly.

"No, Cara". She walked to her bed and sat. "It's dangerous. I'm not ready to see any werewolf and it's really dangerous for you because they won't let any human who set their eyes on them live". Nova tried to convince Cara. "So stay".

"Fine then. I'll go alone".

Renova jolted up from her bed and grabbed Cara who was storming towards the door. "Okay wait". She closed her eyes and mustered all energy to accept her request. "Fine but let me go change".

Cara pulled her. "You're great this way. It's dark and we're going to the woods. You don't need to dress up". She opened the door and Renova reluctantly followed her out in her Jean shorts and pink crop top.

Goddess!
