Prologue

January 2000

"The answer is x = 12.56" Lilly said earning a reward from the teacher. "Good job Ms. Thompson, now can anyone tell me what the answer to number 6 is?" Mr. Maguire asked the class. "The answer is 45." Dylan said and got a reward. "Correct again Mr. Martin." Mr. Maguire had given Dylan a reward making Lilly glare at him in her competitiveness. "Now any one aside from Lilly and Dylan can someone tell me what the answer for 7 and 8 are."

He asked hoping that someone else in his 4th grade Math class would break the rivalry, even though the students knew better than to interfere by answering questions in class. Mr. Maguire sighed knowing it was hopeless. "The answer is 15,609.52¢" They both answered glaring at each other. "Correct again Dylan and Lilly." The bell rang immediately making everyone pack up their things and head out of the classroom. "Don't forget page 12 is the homework for tomorrow and be sure to collect your test from yesterday on your way out . I will see you tomorrow." As everyone left the teacher took on a deep breath.

For the longest time since these two have been going to the same school they have always tried to out best the other by getting 100's on test and assignments to joining sports. No one exactly knew why their rivalry had started. But everyone who knew them knew they had hatred for each other. "God please help Lilly and Dylan find some peace of truce." Mr. Maguire laid his head back in his chair.

"Ayo Thompson!" Her friend Carmen called out to her. "What do you want idiot?" She said earning a punch to the shoulder. "I'm guessing you just had class with Martin?" Her friend said making her groan. "I hate him. I swear one day I will surpass him and be class president." She said determined. "You know if you didn't hate the guy I would believe that you actually liked him." Lilly looked at her friend bewildered.

"Before you say ' I would rather die by werewolves before liking Dylan' just hear me out." Carmen said putting an arm around her. "People think that you and Dylan would make a cute couple." Lilly gagged at the thought of being a couple with her enemy. "Nope never going to happen." Her friend chuckles. "Don't say never because you don't know what could happen." Lilly looked at Carmen in disgust, "the day I'm with that abomination is the day I kill myself. "Her friend rolled her eyes at her. "Whatever you say, Lilly." Carmen says as they head out of the school.
