The soldiers lowered me gently under the shade, my gaze stubbornly fixed on a patch of scorched earth. I'd look anywhere but towards Gamma Rhett, who stood a few paces beside Aceco.

I wouldn't know if he was looking at me but I think he was. It was almost like I could feel his gaze on me even though I didn't dare to look at him. I felt like an awful person thinking about him only when our pack had just suffered so much loss.

Right now, I wondered what would become of our pack. It was obvious we weren't safe here anymore as the vampires now had free passage to orchestrate their ambush.

"Isleen, you'll be okay," Kylo reassured me with his lips strapped together. "Aceco will fix you right up."

Lupe leaned in conspiratorially. "Gamma Rhett used his pull to get us treated first," she whispered and winked at me.

Argh - Gosh.
