17 Chapter 17

Celeste found out rather quickly that she couldn't keep the secret from Jen that Bane had visited the coffee shop after she had gone to work. Someone had apparently snapped a photo of the moment that the Alpha was staring at the human with a rather affectionate look on his face and it caused social media to blow up.

She only found out after the other had sent her a screenshot of the post that was followed by a unnecessary amount of the crying emojis.

Celeste blew it off by texting back that there was no use for her to be so upset since she missed him because of work.

Besides, based upon Bane's behavior she doubted that the other would have even paid any attention to her friend considering it seemed like all his attention was on her.

Her response didn't make Jan feel any better as she sent another text that was just full of sad emojis. Her friend could be so extra at times when she couldn't fathom why.

Rather than respond to her friend, she put her phone back into her pocket. There were other things that she needed to figure out like getting groceries for dinner and finding out how to get her friend to not force her to go with her to the night club.

She had more of a reason now than she did before for not wanting to go. She really really didn't want to run into Bane again.

She didn't want to deal with more of his stares and unwanted attention. It didn't matter how attractive or charming he could, so long as he wasn't fully human- Celeste wanted to avoid him as much as possible.

Speaking of unwanted attention.. she couldn't help but notice that there were a lot more pairs of eyes trained on her than she was used to. Some would look away when she glanced over while others kept their gaze fixed on her as though they weren't doing anything wrong.

This made Celeste nervous as she gripped the strap of her purse tighter than necessary with her free hand.

There were quite a few people in the little corner store that she knew and would watch or greet her, but what she was currently dealing with was completely different from that. This attention was stifling in an invisible way that made it hard for one to breathe.

She tried to keep her head down as she quickly made her way through the store, bothering only with a small hand basket for the few things that she needed.

She had almost finished picking up what she needed when a figure stepped in her way blocking her from grabbing the eggs she desired.

"Can I help you with anything?" Celeste asked when she noticed the scowl that was on the woman's as she looked up to see what the other wanted.

"So you're the one who got close to him." She remarked rather than answering the other's question. Celeste took a step back when the other leaned down to get a better look at her face.

"You really don't seem like all the much in person. So what exactly did you give him to catch his attention like that?" The Woman's voice was sharp and annoyed as she spoke.

The fact that Celeste had no idea what she was talking about and thus had no clue how to reply only seemed to aggravate the other further.

"I'm sorry, I really have no idea what you're talking about." Celeste finally replied. She went to move around the other so that she could finish her shopping when a foot stretched out in front of her causing her to almost lose her balance and take a tumble.

The woman didn't even offer an apology when the other turned to give her a 'What the hell' look after catching herself on the shelf in front of her.

"I really don't know who you think you are, but you better stay away from him with your seduction and whatever evil magic your using." the woman told the other as she got in her face again.

"Why don't you tell me who you're talking about first because I honestly have no clue why you're yelling at me." Celeste retorted beginning to get annoyed by the situation and the fact that people were starting to stare.

The way the other woman was acting very much reminded Celeste of how celebrates acted in those staged drama showdowns where whoever was cheating behind whoever's back and they just got found out.

The woman even looked the part with her expensive designer blouse, heeled boots and her unnaturally straightened hair.

Celeste was fairly certain there were no hidden cameras filming this showdown.

The taller woman narrowed her eyes, a small fire of furry blazing in them as she spoke.

"Fine, you want me to be blunt. I'm talking about Bane of course! Don't think I didn't see the picture of him giving you the heart eyes. He's my mate, already been promised to me so you better keep your hands to yourself." the woman hissed and seethed in a low tone of voice.

Once she seemed satisfied with her piece and that Celeste wasn't going to say anything else, she turned to leave with a 'humph' and her head held high as though she had just won a very important argument.

Celeste was left to process what just happened to her as she blinked multiple times to try and sort it in her brain.

The only thing that made sense to her was the fact that the other woman must've been crazy. No sane person would've reacted that way over a photo, right?

And what did she mean by the fact that Bane had been promised to her? Promised by who and if so, why was he showing an unnatural amount of attention to Celeste rather than directing it to the person that he was supposed to be promised to?

This wasn't turning out to be the day she had been hoping.
