He Is Willing To Do Anything

"Your grandfather might agree, after all; he is willing to do anything, so maybe...you should give him a chance," Gu Shen said. 

Pei Zhilan sighed. He had nothing to say concerning his grandfather. 

From a young age, he knew that if he wanted to survive in the Pei family, he had to take his own future into his own hands, and that was precisely what he did. 

"Do you need me to do anything about the Lui family? If you don't want to get engaged to her..... "

"No. Don't worry about it. It's fine," Pei Zhilan said. 

He had no plans to get engaged to the Lui family's daughter in the first place. After all, he had done his checks on her. 

But thinking of that little girl from earlier, his eyes narrowed slightly, and a trace of interest could be seen inside. 

She gave him a feeling of familiarity and interest.

Tang Xinyi was having dinner with the Lui family. Today, Lui Huang was finally home for dinner, and Pang Lan kept putting food into his bowl while trying to win him over. 

"Honey, how is the company doing these days? Is everything fine?" 

"Yes. The company is fine. Why do you ask? It's not like you'll be able to help anyway!" Lui Huang snapped at her. 

Pang Lan had a hurt look, while Lui Rong looked worried. Lui Rong knew that her parent's relationship had never been good. She also knew that if her parents got a divorce, she was going to suffer the most. 

So, she did not want that to happen. She tried to help her mother out. 

"Dad, mom was just worried about you. You haven't been coming home for dinner, and she is worried that you are taking on too much at the company," Lui Rong chipped in, speaking up for her mother. 

Pang Lan nodded her head. "Yes. That is true, honey. Lui Rong and I still have to rely on you, so please don't overwork yourself, okay?" Pang Lan implored him. 

"Don't pretend you know what you are talking about, woman. You should just continue to spend money the way you have always done. That is the only thing you know how to do anyway. " Lui Huang lashed out at her. 

Pang Lan obviously was not done, and she wanted to continue talking about how she held herself back.

She knew that arguing with Lui Huang would not do her any good. Even though she was his wife in name and enjoyed the prestige of the Lui family's madam, she knew that Lui Huang never really cared much about her. 

Tang Xinyi paid no attention to the drama that was going on between the Lui family. She just concentrated on her as she continued to eat.

She really did not care if Lui Huang cheated on Pang Lan. It was none of her business. 

Pang Lan glared at Tang Xinyi. She felt like Tang Xinyi was the reason her husband was so cold to her nowadays. It was as if her life had turned upside down since she brought Tang Xinyi back. 

And as if that was not enough, Tang Xinyi was no longer scared of her. It was no longer easy for her to bully Tang Xinyi or transfer her anger to her. She really had no idea what happened to her or why she changed so much. 

"Why are you just eating on like that? That's the only thing that you know how to do! Eat! You're so useless!" Pang Lan snapped at Tang Xinyi, transferring her anger to her. 

Lui Rong was trying to convince Lui Huang to pay attention to them, but it was as if Tang Xinyi did not care. 

Pang Lan was right about that. Tang Xinyi did not really care. 

Tang Xinyi wanted to speak up for herself, but Lui Huang angrily slammed his hand on the table. 

"What do you think you are doing?!" He yelled at Pang Lan.

"What? Honey....".

"Pang Lan, listen and listen well because I will tell you this only once. You had better be nice to Tang Xinyi from now on. Remember that the Pei family will come for her soon, and she will soon be the daughter-in-law of the Pei family! If you know what's good for you, you had better do as I said and treat Tang Xinyi well!" Lui Huang warned Pang Lan. 

"Dad! You can't be so cold to Mom because of an outsider like her. So what if she is going to get married to a rich family? We are still the ones who brought her out of the orphanage, giving her the lifestyle she now has! She really needs to know her place!" Lui Rong said hatefully. 

"Lui Rong! Shut your mouth right now! Do you know who the Pei family is?! Don't think I don't know what you and your mother have done to Tang Xinyi all these years! I know! And don't think that you can continue that behaviour from now on! If you do, I'll cut off your allowance!" Lui Huang threatened her. 

He was sick of his wife and daughter constantly causing trouble for him. 

He worked hard to earn money every day to make sure that they had enough to spend, and they did not even have the common sense to know that Tang Xinyi should not be provoked now. 

Lui Rong dropped her spoon on the table angrily. 

"Dad! You can't do that to me!" She yelled. Cutting her allowance was a scary threat! 

"And why can't I?! It seems I have been too kind to you and let you do whatever you wanted for too long! Lui Rong, you had better not get on my nerves!" Her father warned her. 

Tang Xinyi looked at the family coldly. She knew Lui Huang did not speak up for her because he liked her. He only did it because he had something to get from it. She really wondered what exactly the Pei family had given to him that he was now standing up for her after he let his wife and daughter abuse her for years. 

"Lui Huang, I won't allow you to treat my daughter this way! Don't forget who your real daughter is just because you want some benefits!" Pang Lan stepped in, protecting her daughter like a mother hen. 

Lui Huang pointed at both of them. I already told you what I wanted to say to you. Don't bully Tang Xinyi; you had better be nice to her, or you will get what you deserve!" He said. 

He looked over at Tang Xinyi, who had been quiet throughout the exchange. He smiled at her, trying to get her to see him in a better light.
