1 Chapter one - Introduction

"Shit," was the first word that escaped my lips when the alarm clock fired. A heavy gasp followed as I lazily reached out to punch the alarm clock off button.I was just going to snatch few minutes of sleep.

It was a fraction of a second and my bedroom door bursts open. All the wires in my brain began to spark and I managed to turn to see my 'little, sweet' sister, Chloe. She was still in her pyjamas.

"Rise and shine, rise and shine, lazy bones,"she yelled poking her head through the door. More agitated gasps escaped my lips before I could stop it.I sneaked up a look at the clock...it was 8:50 and I remembered today was school. Not just school but I was now a student of a university. " God I'm so tired," I grumble."Need more sleep," I let my lazy head fall back to the soft pillow. The morning was cool even in the summer and the air was so chill and the bed was on its own whispering to me to enjoy a little bit more. But Chloe who looked bewildered said, "You better hurry up,Jane, you don't want to be late like your first day.. lucky enough it's not high school." She shut the door and left. You may think she was concerned but let me tell you, that came out all snooty...the little brat. Now I had to remember my first day as a freshman and I woke up late. I went to school on my own and I didn't know the way to general studies class. I walked about the whole school and no one gave me any attention, and when I finally found the class, the lecture was over. I stood back in my own sweaty sweat shirt feeling like a moron.

Was I the only one passing through this much stress? After a trip back from Miami on Sunday evening,I slept like a log and had no dreams.

I jumped out of bed and rushed into the bathroom. When I was done, I had time for proper analysis. Standing before my mirror I struggled into a tight shirt and pinafore.

So hey everyone, my name is MaryJane Hooper.Welcome to my world. I mostly see myself as a chubby girl with zero hopes for the beauty of life.If it was in terms of love, take it from me,it wasn't even up to zero... I'm talking about decimal figures. At times it just comes like a stab when I look at the mirror and stare back at my reflection. If the mirror could talk or move it will probably not be in my room anyways. I always wonder why I was created so differently from the rest because there were actually pretty girls out there, like Lacey Evans, Alexa Bliss, and even my annoying little sister to make me feel even more shitty in this world. But people like me were just there to make up the numbers.

Today was another day, like every other day and I was going to present to the world myself in a jumpsuit over a faded polo. I combed my hair and grabbed my hand bag and stuff inside all the handouts for the day.

Next thing ony list was to go to the first floor and face my family.

I headed for the dinning to meet a pack of blue eyes staring at me. Mum,dad,Chloe and I all had it in our gene...blue eyes. I thank God if that was the only captivating thing he endowed me with and I had to share it with my family. " Why are you dressed like that? " Mum tossed me a look over her shoulder as she was busy making toast.

"Just decided to go for something casual,"I replied, dishing out toasted bread and avacado on my plate before grabbing a chair to seat on. Chloe was typing furiously on her phone and dad was waiting for mum to dish out his food.I spread the avacado all over the bread and bit into it . I forgot to tell you, I love food. While everyone would like be satisfied with four slices of bread and topping, I went for four loaves. That is why the evidence showed on my chubby cheeks.

My sister was a pain in the neck. She was obsessed with her phone and no one likes that, especially mum. She might promise you just one more text and there goes ten beeps on her phone. But this time came without a warning. She snatched the phone from her hands. Promptly, the cute grin she was wearing turned into a big frown. Her eyes widened at mum.

"I was in the middle of an important discussion, you know". Chloe moaned.

"That discussion can wait til when we are done with breakfast. I've told you no texting when we eat."

She kicked her foot on the floor deviantly and I stopped myself from laughing when her leg hit the chair instead. Her face reddened when she saw me holding myself from laughing but I looked over to dad who has not said a word since we started eating, instead he sat there in moody silence.

Chloe actually caused him this.I mean that silence could only be for one reason. 'I don't know what to say to my daughter who had finally climbed the ladder of puberty'.

OK. Maybe it was just me making assumptions, but it did sound like that...the pain of an a father when he has an annoying teenage daughter to deal with. Puberty was not on low-key in Chloe's case, it was on the roof screaming to everyone that it had arrived. Chloe was fourteen. She would probably start dating and claim the throne to the bee hive. There was a time when she came into my room and told me that she had a crush on Cole, the coolest kid in the their school.

"And guess what?"She squeaked. "What?" I blurted out pretending not to be interested.

"We were paired as a team today in the lab, I was so nervous." She sighed dreamily. What was I going to say when I was quietly seething in jealousy. Good for you Chloe, I am eighteen now and no guy has even said, 'hello pretty girl, what is your name'.

Sighs...

In the next five minutes, I was done with eating. I grabbed by handbag . Chloe and mum were still arguing, I cleared my throat.."Anyway, family,I'm already leaving," I announced and headed for the door.

"Please get my feedback from David and go to school together OK?" Said dad.

I rolled my eyes. "Okay."

I shut the door and was glad to see the summer sun. It was August. A smile formed on my cheeks. I couldn't wait to see Dave. I know it was just one week in Miami but nothing sweetens my soul other than seeing my best friend again. Luckily his flat was in the next street.
