9 Shared Visions #9

Evan nodded, genuinely impressed by the stunning simulation the Danger Room had conjured. The level of detail and realism in the virtual landscape was awe-inspiring. It felt as though he had been transported to an actual African savannah, with the scents of the grass and the distant roars of wild animals filling the air.

The holographic technology was unlike anything Evan had ever seen before, and he couldn't help but marvel at the advancements made at the Xavier Institute.

But his fascination with the simulation was momentarily interrupted as he turned his attention to Storm. Her serene expression hinted at a deeper connection to this place, and he wondered what memories were resurfacing in her mind. It was as if she had been momentarily transported back to a cherished moment from her past.

Evan had questions about the Danger Room, but he knew better than to intrude on her thoughts. Instead, he maintained a patient demeanor, giving her the space and time she needed to collect herself.

Eventually, Ororo snapped out of her reverie, an apologetic chuckle escaping her lips. "It seems that my mind has strayed. Do forgive me."

Shaking his head with a reassuring smile, Evan replied, "There's nothing to forgive. Though I must say, you looked at peace." He paused, curiosity getting the better of him, and he couldn't resist asking, "Does this place hold a personal significance to you?"

Before Storm could respond, Evan quickly added, "Naturally, you don't have to answer if you don't wish to. I'm merely curious, not prying."

Ororo's smile remained gentle as she replied, "I don't mind sharing. As colleagues, it's important that we learn about one another." She turned her gaze back to the horizon and continued, "This is the first place I called home... it was where I learned to wield my power and the responsibility that comes with it..."

"I see," Evan said softly, respecting her sentiments. "It's a beautiful place to call home." He glanced around, absorbing the breathtaking scenery that surrounded them. "You must have lived quite the colorful life before arriving here..."

Ororo's smile remained warm and nostalgic as she acknowledged his words. "That I have," she replied, her voice carrying a hint of fondness. "But let's end the simulation here, lest we get too sidetracked."

"I could talk about this place for days," she added with a soft chuckle, her affection for the simulated environment is evident in her tone. Her gaze lingered on the simulated savannah one final time as if savoring the memories woven into its fabric. The beauty of the virtual landscape was almost palpable, and it was evident that this place held a special significance for her.

With a gentle shake of her head, Ororo took a step back and made a decisive gesture. "End scenario," she uttered, her voice carrying a quiet authority. The virtual plain promptly dissipated, and the familiar walls of the Danger Room reappeared around them.

Once again, they stood in the heart of the training facility, surrounded by its holographic projectors and state-of-the-art technology. The transition from the serene savannah to the confines of the Danger Room was almost surreal, reminding Evan of the possibilities within the facility.

He turned to face Ororo, gratitude evident in his expression. "Thank you for sharing that experience with me," he said sincerely, appreciating the glimpse she had offered into her past.

Ororo's response was gracious, her voice carrying a sense of formality blended with genuine warmth. "You are most welcome, Mr. Shepherd." Then there was a brief pause, and she cleared her throat and continued. "I've wasted quite a bit of your time thanks to my daze..."

"Do you still wish to try creating a simulation of your own?" She asked, giving him a meaningful look.

Evan barely held back a chuckle, realizing her question was a subtle invitation to step back if he felt overwhelmed or unsure. But he was eager to try and confident in his abilities, having closely observed her.

He met her smile with one of his own, his confidence bolstered by the intelligence-enhancing serum that had sharpened his cognitive abilities. "I have nothing but time. I only hope I'm not wasting yours," he replied casually, "That said, I would like to give it a try, and the presence of one more experienced than me would be appreciated..."

Ororo replied, "Very well, please proceed..." Her smile encouraged him as he stepped closer to the supercomputer, with her following closely behind. He took a moment to gather his thoughts before his fingers started dancing across the keyboard, navigating the complex system.

The holographic interface responded to his commands, and he felt a mix of excitement and eagerness as he began crafting his scenario.

Time seemed to blur as Evan carefully formulated the details of his creation. The simulation held deep significance to him, and he wanted to capture every essence of it.

As he typed, he noticed subtle shifts in Ororo's expression. Surprise, confusion, and curiosity danced across her features, a testament to the unexpected nature of his scenario. He smiled inwardly, satisfied that he managed to surprise someone as seasoned as Storm. The minutes ticked by, but he was determined to perfect every detail, ensuring the holographic world mirrored his imagination.

Finally, after what felt like both an eternity and an instant, Evan completed his work. He turned to face Ororo, who gave him an encouraging nod. He wasted no time, confirming the instructions he had typed, his heart beating with anticipation.

Suddenly, the Danger Room turned dark, much to Ororo's surprise. The interior of the Danger Room that had enveloped them a moment ago vanished, leaving her standing in pitch-black darkness. Her initial thought was that the simulation had encountered an error, but before she could voice her concern, the room came alive with a dazzling display of lights.

An array of colorful and shimmering lights erupted from the floor and walls, creating a mesmerizing illusion of a vast, star-studded sky above them. Ororo's eyes widened in awe as she found herself standing amidst a breathtaking simulation of the vacuum of space. The stars glittered like diamonds, their radiant glow painting a celestial masterpiece across the virtual canvas.

The holographic stars seemed so vivid and real that for a fleeting moment, Ororo felt a sense of weightlessness, as if she had truly been transported to the cosmos. She could almost sense the vast expanse of the universe stretching infinitely around her, a reminder of the immeasurable mysteries that lay beyond Earth.

Turning to her side, Ororo saw Evan standing beside her, his eyes transfixed on the celestial display. A smile graced her lips as she witnessed his evident fascination with the stars. Evan spoke without turning to face her, his voice filled with a mix of wonder and longing. "I never had a home... I've stayed in some places for years, but none of them felt like home..."

Intrigued by his words, Ororo listened attentively as he continued, "Since I couldn't show you my past, I thought I'd show you my goal - my future, so to speak..."

Curiosity piqued, Ororo hummed in response, prompting Evan to turn and meet her gaze with earnest eyes. "The stars?" she asked, seeking clarification.

Evan nodded, a soft smile tugging at his lips. "They're so far away, yet it seems that all of humanity's problems come from the stars.." he mused. "Fascinating, isn't it?"

Ororo listened in attentive silence as Evan continued to share his thoughts about the stars. The dim glow of the holographic stars above them added a touch of ethereal beauty to the conversation, deepening the ambiance of the simulated space.

"They remind us that we are part of something much bigger than ourselves," Evan said, his voice carrying a sense of wonder. He paused for a moment, his eyes drifting upwards as if seeking inspiration from the distant lights. Then, with a hint of hesitation, he continued, "They inspire us to dream, yet..." He trailed off, searching for the right words to express his thoughts.

Ororo sensed the conflict in Evan's voice, and she waited patiently, giving him the space to gather his thoughts. "Monstrosities such as Galactus prowl within them..." Evan finally concluded, his words carrying a somber tone.

Ororo nodded in understanding, recognizing the duality of the stars—both a source of inspiration and a reminder of the challenges that lay beyond Earth's borders. "Yes, the stars hold both beauty and peril," she agreed softly.

Evan's gaze returned to Ororo, and he smiled. "Exactly," he said, his voice tinged with appreciation. He sighed and continued. "Much like you, I could spend days talking about this, so it's better we cut this short..."
