51 Chapter 51 The Lizard Part 4/4

Here we are…

Limping through the lab I looked around at the familiar room I had broken into previously. Nothing much had changed since I was last here so I was still quite familiar with all the tools around.

Making my way to the synthesizer I pulled out a couple of samples I managed to take from Connor's before submitting them into the machine.

What I saw truly surprised me on multiple levels. Ugh, Connors what did you do to yourself?

It was hard to even call this DNA human. Heck, it was surprising that he was even alive. His cells were constantly in a state of decay as they fell apart but they would be healed just as fast.

This added difficulty to my task since I needed to make a cure that wouldn't let him die due to cellular failure but I'd get it done.

I typed as fast as I could, manipulating his genes, and removing the broken parts while making patches here and there.

[Failure]

[Failure]

[Failure]

This message rang over and over again but I was making progress. Each attempt was proof of this as the DNA would survive longer than the previous.

[Running Attempt…]

[Partial Success]

Partial? Checking the information I saw why it made that statement.

Connor's DNA was truly pushed beyond repair and would only survive if I left some lizard behind. Not enough to make him a monster but it would be somewhat noticeable. Such things might be his eyes or extra abilities like heightened senses.

Well, this is better than nothing, and if he's lucky he might even get to keep his arm. Pulling out the vial I rushed back still limping but it wasn't as bad as it was before.

Upon arrival, I barely recognized the area as most of the walls were now missing with debris scattered throughout the room.

Peter was also locked in combat with Connor's in the center as they were going blow for blow. These hits were so hard that they created blasts of wind that echoed.

The fight seemed equal until Peter got distracted by my appearance, something his foe didn't let go of. Gripping Peter's head the Lizard gave Peter the Broly treatment and dragged his face through the wall. Thankfully Peter didn't let this happen for long as he released a massive amount of bioelectricity.

"Spider-Man!" With a shout, I threw the vial which he caught and popped into the lizard's mouth as he was forced to drink the liquid.

Jumping off he came over to me as we both watched hoping for the best.

Nothing changed at first as the lizard was still spasming because of the electricity. Until Connor suddenly froze as his eyes regained focus.

The moment that happened his scales began to fall off as he slowly reverted back into a man. Yet there were differences. For one he appeared younger, taller, and had defined muscles but most importantly he had his arm back.

[Dr Connors has been Cured forever changing his fate +500 Points]

"Dr Connors, are you alright?" Peter asked with urgency as he took off his mask "It's me Peter do you recognize me?"

Connors, who was dazed, refocused his attention on Peter before looking at his own hands.

"What have I done…" The man looked traumatized thanks to remembering everything that happened after his transformation.

The pain and regret were clearly etched in his expression and it didn't take NZT to realize that Connors was going to need therapy, Lots of it.

Peter was the first to act as he walked over to the man.

"Connor's it's not just your fault. I should have done better, I helped make that serum so the responsibility falls on me as well" Peter said while helping Connor get back on his feet.

"No Peter you did well it is my fault for taking it prematurely. I knew the risks but was left with no choice." Connors replied as an image of an egotistical man appeared in his mind.

Peter seemed curious to learn about what pressured Connor into making such a rash decision but didn't get the chance to ask as I cut into the conversation.

"I don't want to be that guy but we really need to get out of here. The NYPD is probably making its way up here right now." Which should be the case. None of us were fighting anymore so there was no more trauma being forced on the building. Something the people below should have noticed by now.

"Leave me, I deserve to be arrested. I need to atone for all the death and destruction I caused" Connor's declared wanting to take responsibility for his actions.

Peter looked hesitant at this. He fully believed in taking responsibility for your actions but it was hard to accept especially for someone you consider like a mentor.

"Connor's going to prison isn't a proper way to atone. If you really want to right this wrong then come back with me and join my company as a researcher"

Connor's was surprised by my offer as he looked at me for the first time since reverting to his human form.

Following Peter, I also removed my mask which left a surprised expression on Peter's face and I knew he would be full of questions but those would all have to wait for later.

"You're the owner of that new company Dagon Technologies. How can I truly atone by going with you? It would be no different from working at Oscorp" He said skeptically, not really expecting a decent answer. Especially after his experience with Norman Osborn.

In fact, thinking about his boss only made him more resolute in avoiding any companies, he'd rather just go to prison.

"Well of course it will differ greatly. For one you will actually be helping people. The Lizard serum you made wasn't perfect but I basically fixed it for you. Don't believe me? Look at your own arm as proof."

Connors hesitantly grabbed hold of his new arm as his pupils shook in surprise. With everything that had happened he never even realized that that limb he always wanted was returned.

His years of research and dedication had finally come to fruition!

"That serum isn't the only way to help people either. Imagine it, robot physicians that won't make human errors, Medicines capable of stimulating the body's natural regeneration, and cures for every known disease. That Connor's is what I'm offering you, the chance to not only atone but change human history as we know it." I was making some bold claims that seemed faMaybeched but Connors felt the passion of my voice as I used my Talk No Jutsu on him.

Each word spoken struck a chord with Connor's. Wasn't this what he wanted all his life? The chance to make a difference?

In response, his own will was shaken but still, he hesitated. What if things didn't end well? What if it was all a lie and he would just be used? However, all his resistance crumbled after seeing the happy expression on Peter's face as he urged him to accept, causing him to think 'maybe I really can atone'.

Meeting my gaze Connor's expression became resolute.

"I'll agree but I want a proper contract between us. I never want to make anything like weapons."

[You have recruited Dr Connors +100 Points]

"Consider it done but it's really time we get out of here" I said in a hurry due to my ears picking up on the sound of people coming up the building.

Peter and Connors also seemed to notice their presence after I mentioned it. Together they ran to a broken window before staring down at the city.

While I stayed back and started a fire on the floor along with rigging several instruments to explode. I didn't want any of our DNA getting in peoples hands especially not Osborne so this was something that needed to be done.

"What are you doing over there?" Peter suddenly asked

"Nothing important. You good to go?" I asked as I reached them

"Yea I'm ready but both of you hang on tight and I'm serious falling from this height is really not recommended" Peter said as both me and Connor grabbed onto him for dear life before the three of us began swinging away from the scene.

In a hidden location far from the prying eyes of others, multiple holograms met In secret as they discussed the most recent ongoing events of the world.

"Pierce… So you say that the boy is now with Shield?"

"Yes, Fury was able to strike a deal with him. Soon enough his technology will be put to proper use." Alexander Pierce replied in full confidence.

"Good but his app is still a problem. It has added some limitations to my reach on the web. Have this taken care of. I don't want any variables ruining Operation Insight." A man with glasses said that should have been dead many years ago.

"Consider it done Zola"

While the two discussed Kol another member looked troubled as he made his thoughts known

"I still feel the boy is dangerous. It is practically confirmed at this point that he killed our men. There's also the suspicion of him being a mutant. Wouldn't it be better to just take him?"

The death of three agents wasn't really of any consequence to Hydra but a mutant? Now that was worth something. It gave them the opportunity for their scientists to experiment and pushed them to become innovative with every new discovery.

"Strucker, your view is still too small. A mutant is a dime a dozen and something we have plenty of but geniuses? Now that we can use. Instead, we should slowly show him the truth of this world in an effort to recruit him."

"I agree with Whitehall. It shouldn't be too difficult for the boy to become disillusioned with this country's naive views. He just needs a push in the right direction." Alexander Pierce added with a slight grin.

Everyone else seemed to agree with Daniel Whitehall as well. It wouldn't be the first time they've been able to get someone to switch sides after all.

"So I assume we are in agreement?" Zola asked the rest of his comrades. Which immediately got a positive response.

"Very well Pierce you'll be in charge of the boy for the foreseeable future. Hail Hydra!"

"Hail Hydra!" The hidden leaders exclaimed before diving into more topics.
