49 The Throne Is Where I Am!

After washing up and dressing, Yifei woke the children and made them breakfast, while I ventured out into the city to find information on this demon.

My first stop brought me to the obvious, an elder woman working out of a fish shop.

" Hello!" I walked into the store and greeted the woman.

" Hello! How can I help you?" She asked.

" I need some information. About a demon that's been attacking." I told the woman.

Her previous smile faded, and a look of dread took its place.

" You need to leave, young man. You need to leave now." She spoke. She ran towards me and started pushing me away. " OUT! NOW!" She shouted as she pushed me out into the streets.

" Okay, that was weird. Whatever." I shook my head and continued on searching.

I spent the entire day searching each and every part of Nanjing for any kind of information that might be helpful, but each and every lead turned up dry, there was nothing that even remotely could be used to find this demon.

" Guess, I'll just head back for now and see how everyone is doing." I spoke.

I began to walk back towards the poorer part of Nanjing when I suddenly felt an ominous chill run up my spine.

I turned around and saw an old lady, I mean a real old lady gesturing for me to come to her.

So, I did. But carefully. I readied myself just in case this was a trap.

The closer I drew to the woman the more darkness seemed to spread around me.

" Why hello there, young man. How are you today?" She asked.

" I'm fine. Just fine. How are you doing today?" I replied.

" Wonderful, wonderful. Absolutely wonderful." Her voice was raspy and eerie. Her eyes were shrouded by her hood, the only thing visible were her shaking hands and her wrinkled mouth. " How are you liking things with the lady of fire?" She asked.

" The lady of fire? Who is the lady of fire?" I asked the woman. I had never even heard of such a thing. But I did not put it out of the realm of possibility. There are many untold things in the world.

" Oh, to have garnered such a beast's attention. Young man you must be special." She spoke. She reached out and touched my hand and then violently jerked back with a hiss. " Oh, you are special. Not a human. You're dangerous. Just like the enemy of the dragon."

At this point, I knew something about this lady was wrong. No not wrong. Not just wrong. Whatever she is. She's evil.

The sun is going down, I noticed. The sky was beginning to darken... Fast.

" I'll deal with you, myself. But first I need to nip that bird before she awakens." The woman spoke. She suddenly lifted her head and I saw her blood red eyes glaring at me.

I reacted and swung my fist towards the woman, but she just vanished in a puff of smoke.

" I think I found my demon. And what the hell was she talking about a fire lady? No time for that." I quickly turned and ran towards the poorer section of Nanjing.

As I rushed through the streets of the illuminated city, the sounds of screams started to grow louder and louder. I hopped onto the nearest roof and looked up at the giant black creature towering over the people. It was wide and had sharp teeth and horns that curled upwards.

" AHH! HELP ME!" I looked closely and saw one of the kids from the city.

" Let him go demon!" Yifei the brave fool. She was rushing towards the demon.

" So, you show yourself star child. Good, come meet your doom." The dark demon bellowed. It launched the kid to the side and charged towards Yifei.

I jumped towards the beast with my Trident in my hand.

The demon grabbed Yifei up and started cackling.

" So, what was your plan here brave Star child?" The demon asked.

" If you want me, you can have me. Just let the children go." Yifei begged.

The demon laughed loudly, mockingly.

" No, there must be witnesses. Sadly, this entire city is going to die because of you." The demon spoke. " Oh well, blame the stars for making the host of such a vile beast. They say when it comes it brings death and destruction. But also, life. Too bad you won't see it happen." The demon spoke.

Yifei started struggling the creature's hand and an ominous smoke started filling the air.

" AH! You monster. DIE!!!" The creature bellowed. The demon cursed and raised Yifei to eat her.

I swung my Trident upwards and cut the beasts arm off without it knowing.

" Huh? Why can't I? ARGHHHH!" The demon's arm suddenly fell off its body and dropped to the ground, releasing Yifei from its grasp as it did.

Yifei kicked and screamed as she plummeted towards the ground.

" Don't worry, I got ya." I told the girl as I caught her from falling. I smiled down at her face, but as I looked into her eyes, I saw something strange. I mean strange even for me. In her eyes was a spark. A flame. A flame in the shape of a bird. But as quickly as the flame came it vanished.

" Thank you, Liu. Once again you've saved my life." Yifei spoke.

Her words drew my attention back to the world.

I smiled at the girl and shook my head.

" Don't worry about it." I told her. But I was really telling myself. Whatever it was that I saw I'm sure it was nothing worth worrying about right now.

Yifei smiled softly, but that smile quickly vanished.

" LIE KANG, BEHIND YOU!" She shouted.

I looked over my shoulder and saw that the demon was swinging at me with its one good hand.

" YOU'LL PAY FOR THAT YOU KUR!!!"

" HAHA! CHI YOU- ARMOR FORM, HEAVENLY HAND OF DEFENSE!" A man leapt over my head, he jumped in front of the attack and directed it to the side and then with one thrust of his hand the demon's entire upper body exploded.

I turned around and sprung to my feet. My eyes were wide in absolute shock.

" I've never seen a man do something like that in all my life. Who are you?" I asked the man.

He turned around and faced me. He was a muscular man, with a centipede tattoo over his right eye, which was covered by a blindfold. He was wearing a Bare-shouldered robe. On his hands were two sets of Zhijiatao, Nail guards, that were sharpened to the point of being knives themselves. He wore two on his right hand, residing on his pointer and middle fingers respectively. And on his left hand there were three, on his pointer, middle, and ring fingers.

" Who am I? Who am I? ISN'T IT OBVIOUS WHO I AM?! I AM THE GREATEST EMPEROR TO EVER EXIST. THE ONLY TRUE KING OF CHINA." He spoke. He plopped down on the ground, put his right hand in front of his chest and spoke. " The thrones is where I am. I am QIN SHI HUANG!"
