54 Bad Uncle Killmonger

Author here, I am starting to realize the massive underestimation I had made when starting this story. Trying to fit decades of storytelling and hundreds of characters while not losing focus of the larger narrative and not letting your MC get lost in it is very difficult. I can't just blame the incoherent timelines and storylines of the comics either.

I just lack the time and effort to portray the scale I actually want to portray in this story. The number of factions, characters and events are so numerous that choosing a POV for any chapter is a pain in the ass. But despite all that I am loving telling the story. Might not be the quality of story I wanted to tell but it's still a story I love telling. Enjoy!

"3… 2… 1. Now! I'm grabbing the kid. Everybody move." Killmonger gave the orders and moved towards the cute little girl who was squatting down in front of a street vendor and looking at the necklaces.

Looking at the innocent face of the child, Killmonger paused for a second before adding another order, "Make sure the kid does not get hurt in any way. We don't want Savant coming after us with all his resources for harming his kid."

When Killmonger reached the little girl, an explosion happened on cue on the other side of the market. There were shouts of panic and terror as people began to run away. Stalls were being pushed over and people were pushing and stepping over people to run away.

Amidst this chaos, Klaue used sonic attacks to quietly incapacitate the two bodyguards who were about to take the little girl away. Right then, Killmonger went up to the kid who was still squatting down and looking at the necklaces as if she had not heard all the commotion at all.

"What do you think, bad uncle, does this necklace look good?" When Killmonger bent down to pick up the girl, he heard the girl speak to me. Killmonger froze in place when the girl turned to look at him with a naughty grin.

"Bad uncle, you shouldn't do bad things like scaring people and hurting others if you want to catch Terra. If you asked nicely, I would come to play with you by myself." The little girl who referred to herself as Terra said while still smiling.

But to Killmonger, the more he looked at the smile on that cute face, the more he felt like he was prey that had been caught in the trap of a hunter. The eyes of the small and cute little girl seemed to have unimaginable depth and he could feel that somewhere in that depth, those eyes had seen through everything about him.

"Oh fuck! I knew this was a bad idea." Klaue who had been close enough to listen in on the conversation was already bolting away in a hurry while cursing. This also brought Killmonger back from his dazed state and he increased his vigilance.

Killmonger stepped back a little and put up a fighting stance while still keeping his eyes on the little girl. The street corner they were in was already deserted so there was nobody to witness a fully grown, brawny black man standing on guard against a little girl who was squatting and playing with fake gem necklaces.

"What are you? Are you a demon possessing the girl? What kind of monster are you?" Killmonger demanded answers.

"Even Dad is not so rude. You are a bad uncle." Terra pouted. "Terra is Terra. She isn't a monster or a demon. You shouldn't say bad things like that to a child. Did no one teach you good manners, bad uncle?"

Terra then sat up and patted her dress to remove any dust before putting away the necklace into her pocket. Her actions made Killmonger take another step back but she didn't seem to notice and continued to take out a ten-dollar note and place it under the street vendor's seat.

"You didn't want to hurt Terra and you even asked with concern if I was possessed so I will let you go and not tell my father about you. You should stop doing bad things, Uncle." Terra turned her back and walked away from Killmonger who stood there stunned in silence.

After seeing the little girl getting away, Killmonger resolved himself and took a step forward to follow the girl when the voice of the little girl came on the earpiece. "Name: Eric Killmonger. Real name: N'Jadaka. Identity: Prince of Wakanda."

After hearing that, Killmonger stopped and the voice in the earpiece stopped as well. He didn't think of following the girl when he didn't know what the girl was or how much she knew. His best guess was that the girl was one of those mutant technopaths who had control over technology. But he wasn't in the mood to find out when he didn't know the cost of the answers.

"Everyone fall back. The mission is aborted. We will meet at the second extraction point in two hours." Killmonger gave the orders while staring at the back of the little girl who strolled leisurely past the empty marketplace.

"With this, the debate has come to an end. The results of your voting are on the screen with Doctor Doom taking a massive lead in the polls. We would like to thank both candidates for coming up here for this debate. A big thanks to all our moderators and all our viewers and listeners worldwide as well. I wish the best of luck to both our candidates and everyone on planet Earth. May we have a prosperous future."

With the host's closing remarks, the long debate finally came to an end. Although Doom had a massive lead of almost 60% in the polls, the final voting rights were still in the hands of the leaders of each country so who the final winner will be was still not sure to anyone. But Doom was looking more and more like the most likely first Chancellor of the Earth Federation.

The ramifications of the debate were still to be felt in the coming days but one of the consequences was immediate. The superhero society was in a state of panic when Tony Stark and Captain America called for a joint meeting of the heroes at the Avengers' compound.

Doom's claims of making the heroes obsolete with the formation of the army was a direct threat to their existence. So they wanted to call for a meeting to discuss how they would move forward in the future as a community. There was a large participation with the heroes being present both physically and through virtual mediums.

"I have always denied giving my Iron Man armor technology to the military and I am not going to change that decision even if they claim it is an independent government. Especially not if Doom is the one running that government. No offense Reed." Tony gave his opinion about the matter as expected.

Hank Pym looked at Tony mockingly and spoke, "And what makes you think Doom will ask for your tech? I admit your armor technology and mini-reactors are great inventions but with Doom himself and hundreds or even thousands of scientists working together, can't they crack your technology or create an alternative? Let's face it, We have some of the most brilliant minds here but not all of them. And Doom has plenty to work with to make good on his promise."

"So we are supposed to just sit back and watch as Doom creates an army of super soldiers? Even more, he said we have to apply to get into that army." Tony retorted.

Captain America interjected at this point, "If the Earth Federation can stay true to its founding principles, I don't see why we cannot work together with them. We can even work in the capacity of independent contractors or something similar."

To Steve Rogers, this was not such a bad idea. He didn't want to be controlled by one government to be used as a weapon against another. But if he is working for a government that represents humanity as a whole, he doesn't think it is such a big issue anymore. He was working for humanity whether he was in the army or as a hero.

Tony glared at Steve Rogers, "Always the obedient soldier Captain. The Blue Marvel is already a government lapdog and you want to join their ranks as well."

"I just heard before the meeting that the mutants have already accepted conscription within Doom's military if their rights are ensured under Doom's government. If we start having internal troubles at this time as well, who is going to stop Doom when the time comes?" Reed who was silent the whole time spoke at this moment.

A conflict between the heroes at this moment would mean that they wouldn't be able to respond to any plans that Doom might be hatching. Reed didn't want to let the heroes fall apart on their own. Especially when he knew that the mutants might be siding with Doom.

"Why are we assuming that we have to stop Doom in the first place? I am not joining any human army but from where I stand, I don't see any reason why Doom must be stopped or criticized. If you ask me, you couldn't have a better leader for a planet that is just entering the interstellar society other than someone like Doom." Thor questioned Reed.

As a prince of Asgard who had lived for thousands of years, he had traveled to multiple star systems and galaxies and had seen the rise and fall of many civilizations. He knew very well that only the civilizations that had a smart, ruthless, and capable rulers like Doom and his father Odin were able to survive the cruel competition out in space.

While the heroes were busy protecting the weak humans, Doom was planning to make all the humans capable of protecting themselves. Thor admired Doom for his farsightedness in eliminating human weaknesses before taking on the interstellar society.

Doctor Strange who had appeared late to the meeting dropped another bomb amid the silence that Thor's statement had brought about.

"Doom wants to make magic into a scientific subject and teach it in designated magic schools. He has asked me to become the Principal of the school. He plans to have exchange students from all dimensions and planets to create diplomatic relations with them. I think it is a great idea."
