3 3: The Hunt

Stephan felt the uncontrollable demonic power coursing through his veins and couldn't help but clench his fists tightly while avoiding stabbing himself with his sharp nails.

"System, what are my stats looking like," Stephan asked while trying to keep his rationality.

According to the system, human stats peeked at 10 for all their attributes, and after Stephan turned into a vampire, his stats would exceed that of a human with peaked stats.

A holographic screen appeared, showcasing Stephan's stats screen.

Stephan looked through his stats with a faint smile on his face, he was far stronger than any regular human could get.

"Fledgling? System, what does that mean?" Stephan decided to ask after seeing the "rank" category, as he didn't know much about vampires, he could only ask the system.

The system will rank the host according to his overall combat power, the ranks are listed in ascending order from Fledgling, True Vampire, Vampire Noble, Vampire Elder, Vampire Lord, Transcendent Vampire.... etc. Each increase in rank will come with more racial abilities, the host should strive to rank up, higher ranks may have certain rank-up conditions apart from combat power.] The system explained slowly.

"so that's it" Stephan came to a realization as he looked at the list of ranks for vampires, it all made sense now.

[Also, as a fledgling, most of the host's vampire abilities are locked, please devour the blood of humans to rank up to a true vampire, this will unlock powerful abilities exclusive to vampires] The system's voice was heard once again.

"say less" Stephan said with a devilish grin as he slowly licked his sharp fangs with his tongue.

He was now in his vampire form, as long as he willed it he could transform back into his human form, but his body wouldn't let him due to his insatiable hunger for human blood.

As Stephan stood in the room, His nose twitched and his eyes wandered all over the room before he made his way towards the small window.

creak!

the window slowly opened, bringing with it a cold breeze that swept through Stephan's hair.

"this is crazy" Stephan muttered under his breath as he stared at the cold moon which hung high above the sky, his eyes then moved towards the sea of trees which was in the distance.

he could smell it.

the smell of blood, that familiar yet unfamiliar smell that drove him crazy.

Stephan's hands reached for the edge of the open window with one hand.

swoosh!!

with a single step, he turned into a hazy figure as he shuttled through the window and into the darkness of the trees behind the house.

Stephan's movements were fluid, not a single sound was heard as he moved towards his target which was running away in the distance.

Stephan's vision was clouded in nothing but a misty red color, but he could still "see" and sense everything in his surroundings.

Stephan bared his Fangs as he got closer to his target, he moved between the trees with a monstrous speed as he continued his chase.

"got you"

A large deer could be seen jumping away in the distance, it didn't know that it was being chased, but it could feel an ominous aura behind it, causing it to increase its speed even more.

But Stephan was faster, His steps were light yet powerful as he pushed off against the soil beneath his feet and raised his sharp "claws" Slashing down at the deer which was trying to escape death.

puchi!!

in a split second, three long gashes appeared at the side of the deer's belly, blood burst out as the poor animal fell to the ground with a strange expression on its face.

Stephan didn't waste another second, he crouched down and brought his teeth towards the neck of the struggling deer, his fangs easily pierced through the deer's skin and all the blood it had within its body was devoured within a couple of seconds.

the blood of the deer was metallic, yet it tasted very good to Stephan, it was hard for him to explain the reason.

Stephan sat up as he felt his vision return to normal, he wiped the blood away from his lips as he felt a sense of power coursing through his body.

[Congratulations on drinking the blood of a deer!

+1 strength, +1 speed, +1 vitality (Devouring too much of the same creature will result in a minimal to no stat increase, excluding humans)

Stephan looked at this notification with a satisfied smile.

but he didn't become too complacent, this was a world where even gods could be killed, he needed to become stronger, a lot stronger.

since it was nighttime, deers were pretty active around these parts of the area, although most people wouldn't come into contact with them unless they were driving and a deer decided to hop out, Stephan could easily track them down with his strong senses.

even a spider that was sewing its webs down a few meters away could be heard clearly by Stephan, nothing around him could escape his ears.

"I wonder what abilities I will gain when I become a true vampire," Stephan said as he rushed through the trees, the feeling of freedom under the blanket of the night sky gave him an indescribable pleasure.

Although Stephan didn't know too much about vampires, he did know that a lot of them could turn others into vampires, some had powers of telekinesis, flight, could scale walls, magic... etc.

these were all powerful abilities he would need if he wanted a foothold in this world.

As the night went on, A lone figure could be seen traversing through the trees as he tried to fill his hunger for blood.

during the night, Stephan killed 3 other deer, increasing his stats significantly with each kill, but he could slowly feel the effect of the deer's blood diminishing, so Stephan could only calmly return to his room under the night sky.
