256 Chapter 254. The Beginning of the Battle (Part2)

Unlike big-headed aliens depicted in numerous sci-fi movies, the Chitauri were human-like in size, but only in size. In reality, they were clad in metallic armor, with insect-like mouths, and hoarse shrieks, as they scrambled through the portal to invade New York.

Faced with the locust-like invasion of the Chitauri, Tony piloted his battle armor to shoot them down with a steady stream of cannon beams.

The beams were so powerful that even the Chitauri, as alien invaders, couldn't withstand.

However, Tony wasn't dealing with a single Chitauri. Instead, he was facing a steady stream of alien troops. And so, even though he tried to keep them under control, a large number of Chitauri entered through the portal had evaded him and scattered in all directions.

Boom --

The guns in their hands fired beams of blue light. The unsuspecting people of New York were defenseless against an invasion from a real alien army. A large number of buildings collapsed and the screaming crowd scrambled around in a panic.

"Loki!"

With a roar, Thor landed on top of the building with Mjolnir in his hand. He looked at Loki, and angrily shouted, "Turn off the Tesseract, or I'll destroy it!"

"You can't! There is no stopping it."

With scepter in hand, Loki looked at the Chitauri invading through the portal. Facing Thor's angry shout, Loki replied with an expressionless face, "Once the energy of the Tesseract is turned on, it can no longer be stopped. I have summoned the Chitauri army, and in the end victory will be mine. I will defeat you this time, Thor! "

"Do you know what you're doing, Loki!" Looking down, at the devastation caused by the Chitauri, Thor looked at Loki with a complex expression on his face, "These innocent people will lose their lives because of what you have done."

"This is war, Thor! I'm just doing what I have to do."

As Loki said that, he waved his scepter and without hesitation, slammed it down on Thor.

For a while, on the roof, the two 'gods' from Asgard fought to a standstill.

...

"Captain, how much longer do you need? "

While Loki and Thor were fighting, on the other side, Tony piloted his Mark 8 up into the air, trying to stop the invading army. He unloaded the 'Anti-Jiu You' weapons that were mounted on his armor, which were powerful but also a huge drain on energy. They were detrimental to the situation at hand.

Flexibly avoiding the counterattack of the Chitauri, Tony began to call the others.

"Stark, we're on your 3, headed North-East!"

Inside the helmet, Natasha's voice came through. Tony breathed a sigh of relief, but the expression on his face remained stony.

After all, the members of the Avengers were ultimately a little too few in comparison to the constant stream of Chitauri troops in front of him.

"Swing up Park, I'm going to lay them out for you."

With that, Tony raised his hand and fired several blasts at the Chitauri, who rushed down the portal. He then turned around and flew towards the agreed location.

Tony relied on his armor to attract a squad of Chitauri, but the squad he attracted was clearly a drop in the ocean compared to the constant stream of alien forces flying down from beyond the portal. The way things were going, even if all the members of the Avengers gathered, they wouldn't be able to clean up the Chitauri.

The outcome of the battle seemed like a foregone conclusion.

"Is this what you want, Loki?!"

Waving Mjolnir, Thor sent Loki flying, along with his scepter. Thor's expression grew angrier as he looked at the Chitauri army that kept appearing around him, "You think this madness will end with your rule?"

"You will always be like this, Thor." Propping himself back up on his scepter, Loki looked behind him, at the army of Chitauri and ungraciously shot back, "Self-righteous benevolence."

As Loki's words fell, a monstrous metal worm, dozens of meters long, poked its head out of the portal. Its massive body appeared above the earth, as if a dark cloud had covered the sky. Its huge metal body emitted a mysterious luster in the sun's rays. Spinning its body around, the giant metal worm made a simple turn, but smashed a towering building directly in two.

Moreover, the giant metal worm didn't just float in mid-air. It was also a carrier. It opened the doors on itself and countless Chitauri troops leapt out of it. In an instant, the small half of the Chitauri army that had previously been wiped out by the Avengers had grown once more, adding a few more perilous aspects to the whole situation.

"Stark, are you seeing this?"

Looking up at the giant metal worm suspended in mid-air, the expression on Steve's face was very complicated.

He was beginning to miss World War II a little, when his opponents were at best vampires and Hydra, not alien monsters of indescribable proportions.

In 70 years, the whole world had changed so much more than he, a World War II veteran, could have expected.

"Seeing, still working on believing."

Not to mention Steve, even Tony was equally overwhelmed by the sight of the giant metal worm in front of him. However, compared to Steve, he was more concerned about defeating the giant thing. The giant metal worm was so huge that it was clearly not something that could be easily defeated by him or Captain America on their own.

"Where's Banner? Has he shown up yet?"

At this time, Tony's first thought was the Hulk.

For huge monsters, the only thing that could defeat them would be an equally large monster.

It wasn't that Tony had forgotten about the [Drunken Sword Immortal], it was just that, even he himself wasn't sure if the immortal would appear on the battlefield; after all, their previous encounter on the ship was just a coincidence. Moreover, the [Drunken Sword Immortal] wasn't Master Roshi who attended a party with him before. He didn't have the confidence to persuade the immortal into making a move.

"Banner? We don't know, we lost contact after the immortal left the ship."

Hearing Tony's question, Natasha replied.

On the Helicarrier, the [Drunken Sword Immortal] stopped the Hulk's rampage, and took him away. Who would have thought it wouldn't be long before they desperately needed the big guy to wreak havoc once more?
