25 25. Mutants Are Cute

Adam's words stunned Elle. She was expecting a different kind of reaction, like fear, shock or anger but not this. He was definitely shocked but it was for completely different to what she expected.

Elle, asked nervously, "You... don't hate me?"

Adam tilted his head in confusion, "Hmm, hate you? Why?"

Elle looked down at her toes and said in a small voice, "Because I am a mutant."

Adam's heart melted when he saw her nervous expression, "Do you think I hate you?"

She didn't reply. Adam laughed out loud and poked her cute little nose, "Who would hate such a cute little elf."

Elle was stunned, then she blushed. Even her ears went red from embarrassment. Adam laughed even more seeing her cute reaction.

He held her hand and said, "You know, you are not the only one with secrets."

Elle was surprised, she looked up in confusion.

Adam smiled.

The next moment his eyes started to change, his pure black pupils turned red with three tomoe spinning slowly within.

"This is my secret."

Adam said with a smile.

Elle was captivated by his eyes, she couldn't help but whisper, "So beautiful...

Adam was amused. These pair of eyes invoked terror in everyone and here she was saying it was beautiful. He wondered what was going on in her little head.

Adam curled his lips, "My eyes have special abilities."

Elle's eyes brightened up like stars, Adam's heart skipped a beat when he saw her. He couldn't control himself and pinched her adorable cheeks.

"If you keep making such cute expressions I might not be able to control myself."

Adam said with a teasing smile.

Elle blushed again. Being raised by nuns she was quite conservative, this was the first time she was this close to a boy and this boy was someone she loved.

"Elle..."

Adam lightly called out.

She looked up into his eyes. Suddenly everything around her started to change. The pavements, the trees, the animals, the people around them... everyone disappeared.

What replaced them was a field of bright red roses, stretching further than the eye could see. She was shocked and covered her cherry lips.

Adam traced a flower and said, "My eyes can create illusions, I can make you see a field of flowers, the depths of the ocean, the deepest part of a jungle... anything I can imagine, I can create."

"That's not all. My eyes can capture and perfectly replicate every movement I see. Right now I have placed you in an illusion."

Elle was shocked beyond words. She carefully traced the flowers, she could feel it but this wasn't real?

She looked up at Adam and saw him smile, "Now we are even. I saw your secret and you heard mine, now we are bound for life."

Elle took a second to register what he said and blushed. She looked down in embarrassment. Adam also realised something, he too was slightly embarrassed.

He dispelled the illusion. Elle felt her vision tremble when the field of flowers faded away. She was back in the zoo again.

However she blushed again when she looked around. A lot of people were looking at her and Adam with a knowing smile. Adam realised he did something stupid, under his illusion their bodies stayed at the same place looking into each others eyes.

Everyone around them saw this lovely couple and couldn't help but stop for a second and smile.

Adam pulled Elle's hand and quickly walked away, even he was embarrassed in such a situation. After they reached far Adam and Elle looked at each other and smiled.

Taking a step forward Adam hugged Elle, "Go out with me."

"Um."

Elle felt her heart throb, she nodded softly.

He let go of her and held her hand. They walked slowly through the pavements. Time and distance quickly ran away, soon they were infront of the orphanage.

Adam felt reluctant to part with her. He unwillingly said, "See you tomorrow."

Elle didn't want to let go of his hand, she gathered her courage and took a step forward. Tiptoeing she kissed him.

Adam was taken by surprise, before he could react Elle ran away.

Damn! I missed my chance.

He felt regret, he could still feel the warmth of her lips. He looked up and smiled before leaving.

Elle just ran in when she saw several head poke out from a corner. Her head short circuited for a second before she stomped her feet in embarrassment.

"Did you... did you see?"

Elle's face was beet red when she asked that.

The nuns didn't even hesitate before they said, "Yup."

Elle covered her face and ran away. The nuns smiled.

"Ah, youth."

Adam just reached home when he saw his parents looking at him with a smile.

"What?"

He asked defensively.

His mother Georgia smiled in amusement, "Anything good happened?"

Adam clearly didn't want to discuss anything. He dodged her eyes and quickly walked to his room.

Just when he passed by his mother he saw her cellphone. The screen was stuck with an image of a charming young girl kissing a handsome young man.

Adam's eyes nearly popped out, "What the!? Where did you get that?"

Georgia ignored him and looked at the picture with adoration, "What a lovely couple!"

Adam looked at his father who also had a teasing smile on his face, "Dad...

William shrugged, "Those nuns send it. I was surprised too, the picture is of great quality, I suppose they used some quality equipment."

Adam didn't know what to say. He knew those nuns were witty but this was beyond that. He smiled wryly and went up the stairs.

Before he left he looked at his father and signalled with his eyes. His father gave a thumbs up sign in return.

Adam nodded and went up to his room. Just as he closed the door, his phone vibrated. He checked it immediately and found the picture he just saw.

A smile crept onto his face.

After looking at it for some time he muttered,

They did use some good equipment.
