67 Chapter 66: Exploooooosion!(In Megumin's voice)

"Are you feeling better now, Sara?" Asked Pharaoh softly while gently patting Sara's back.

I didn't receive a response since Sara once again vomited; the sight of the lobby inside was simply too much for her. Sighing, I just waited for her to calm down while patting her back and holding her hair out of the way as she vomited everything that was in her system; in fact, she had already done that; now, she was merely vomiting bile.

Seeing her finally stop after being unable to vomit anything else, I carefully set her on the ground, leaning against the wall before reaching into my backpack and handing Sara a bottle of water and a bag of salted pretzels.

"T-Thanks." Muttered Sara with a slightly pale face while Tut sported his best smile, which looked rather terrible given his current state.

Sitting down right beside Sara, we stayed silent and observed the sky, which had just turned dawn, and although I wasn't vomiting like Sara, I, too, didn't feel much better than her, mentally, at least. I've heard many terrible things happen in New York and even beyond, but hearing and seeing are two different things; laying your eyes on a bunch of corpses of innocent people who had no involvement with the war shot to death was sickening.

It didn't help that I could see their every expression: the fear, anger, pain, and sorrow on their face only made it so much worse when you realized those were actually living, breathing, talking beings and not just clones or whatever. Whoever killed them didn't care either; it wasn't like they accidentally made a mistake or anything; they purposely shot them. Why would one feel the need to murder people that had nothing to do with the war? I don't know, but it made me both disgusted and angry at their barbaric actions; war was already terrible enough, and ceaseless killing was just downright psychotic, especially when the people you killed weren't even fighting back.

"Tsk." Muttered Tut with a scowl as he grabbed a stone and crushed it in his hands, turning it into sand that flowed out of his hands.

Clenching my fist, I took a deep breath and sighed to myself, though suddenly, I felt Sara's head rest upon my shoulder, causing me to look at her as she lay there.

"Are you feeling better yet?" Asked Tut as he wrapped his arm around Sara's shoulder.

"Yeah, thanks." Replied Sara quietly as she mindlessly stared off into space.

Nodding my head, we again descended into silence for several minutes before Sara opened her mouth, breaking the quietness.

"Pharaoh, how are you so calm after seeing all that?" Asked Sarah curiously as she tilted her head and looked up at Pharaoh, who wryly smiled.

"Huh, calm? I'm quite livid, actually, Sarah." Replied Pharaoh with a shake of his head, though Sara didn't seem to believe him fully.

"Really? You don't seem livid; if anything, you seem almost unaffected." Remarked Sara lightly, earning her a bonk on the head from Tut.

"Of course I am; what decent person wouldn't be angry at what we saw? I'm merely putting on a strong front so you have someone to lean on; it would be much harder to calm down if the two of us let our emotions get the best of us." Said Pharaoh, causing Sara to smile softly as she snuggled closer to him.

"Hmm, just like a hero." Said Sara softly while smiling, her words causing Pharaoh to sigh and shake his head.

"Haa, I flattered you think so, Sara, but just because I can throw cars to the moon and sprint faster than a jet doesn't make me a hero. Superpowers don't make you a hero; it's one's never-yielding heart to always do good no matter the challenges and consequences you may face. That's a hero." Stated Pharaoh solemnly as he looked at Sara, who merely smirked.

"Even if that's the case, you're my hero." Remarked Sara with a smirk as she leaned nearly all her weight onto Pharaoh, who sighed in annoyance though he didn't move.

"You sure you still want to go in?" Asked Tut as he leaned against the door and glanced at Sara, who hesitantly nodded, causing him to sigh, though nonetheless, he followed right behind her.

Entering the building once and being greeted with the sight of the dead bodies, I glanced at my hand, which Sara had just grabbed, before looking at her.

"I-I'm fine." Said Sara as she closed her eyes before opening them in determination, walking over the various dead bodies.

Reaching the stairs, we walked up several flights until we arrived at the floor where the missile was stuck, which was easy to spot; we opened the door to the room in which the missile was stuck, though in doing so, the door fell off the hinges.

"I was careful." Said Tut defensively as he glanced at Sara, who was blankly staring at him.

Walking inside the room, despite a missile in the side of the kitchen, the place looked rather nice and not nearly as damaged as I expected.

"Well, look what we found here: a stark missile." Remarked Tut with a slight smile as he approached the kitchen before glancing at Sara, who released his hand and took pictures of the stark logo.

Shaking my head at Sara, I looked inside the missile, curious to see what caused it not to explode, though, weirdly enough, I didn't find anything that would suggest why it didn't explode. Now, I wasn't a bomb expert or anything, so I could very well be missing something, but with a glance, nothing was missing or damaged; it was as if the missile simply decided not to detonate.

'Weird.' Mused Tut with a raised eyebrow before shrugging his arms and walking through the rest of the apartment.

Looking around the house, on a shelf, I found a broken picture frame and saw the family of four, who were most likely the ones who lived there. The Father and Mother caused me to frown since I had seen them lying dead on the floor in the lobby, but it was my first time seeing the two children, who seemed to be around my age, so hopefully, they are alive somewhere, though without any parents, they'll be having a tough time.

'The girl has red hair, and the boy has blonde hair, one of them has got to be adopted. Actually, maybe they both are; neither look anything like their parents.' Thought Tut curiously as he looked at the picture for a few more seconds before deciding something on impulse.

"I'm sure it'll be a nice gift if I ever happen to encounter them." Muttered Tut as he took the picture out of the frame before storing it in his pocket.

Setting the frame back on the shelf, I did a quick look around the house, finding the bedrooms and whatnot, but unfortunately, I didn't find anyone, which was probably better since they would most likely be a corpse.

"Where were you, Tut?" Asked Sara as she looked at Tut's exit from one of the rooms.

"Just looking around the place, nothing important; so, have you finished taking pictures or what?" Replied Tut with a shake of his head as he glanced at Sara, who nodded with a slight smile.

"Yeah, we can leave now. I don't really like being here; it feels invasive. Said Sara lightly as she reached forward and grabbed Tut's hand before walking toward the entrance.

"I feel the sa-" Said Tut lightly as he suddenly jumped behind Sara, using his body to protect her from the exploding missile while also enveloping her in his aura.

Being engulfed in a violent fiery explosion, we fell to the ground, though we weren't given a break as a large piece of the building fell on top of us. Lifting the broken building off us, I tossed it into the distance before standing up and looking at Sara, inspecting her for any injuries, though thankfully, she was enveloped in my aura before the explosion reached her.

"I-I'm not dead!?" Exclaimed Sara in surprise as she looked at herself before looking at Tut.

"No, thankfully, you're not. It would've been an awkward talk with your parents and Jean about how I accidentally let you die." Replied Tut with a sigh of relief as he set Sara back on the ground.

"I love life." Muttered Sara as she kissed herself while Tut's five senses were working at maximum capacity.

"C'mon, just show yourself; I know you're right out there." Stated Tut solemnly, his words causing Sara to stop what she was doing and huddle beside him while looking warily around.

"Who is it, Pharaoh?" Asked Sara softly, though Tut didn't bother responding.

Despite waiting a full minute, no one showed themselves, which caused me to frown; I had never sensed anyone within the vicinity to begin with. It's just when you add everything together, I assumed there must've been someone nearby watching or something. I mean, how else would that missile, which has been sitting there for who knows how many days, decide to just randomly explode while the two of us just so happened to be right beside it? I believe in coincidences, but come on, that's just so unlucky it's hard to chalk it up to a mere coincidence.

'Besides, this entire trip with Sara has been dangerous. First, the missile nearly hitting the plane, then that muscle mutant I beat, and finally, this stupid missile. I could count the time I landed on that landmine, though that was partially my fault.' Though Tut with a frown before glancing suspiciously at Sara.

'It's like she's a magnet for unfortunate events.' Mused Pharaoh as he backed away from Sara, who gave him a confused look.

So, is someone really stalking Pharaoh and Sara, or is it really all just coincidence? Hehe, I suppose there is only one person who knows. Hehehe😈
