45 The Five Light Orbs

Aiden's formidable physical condition allowed him to dominate in the presence of ordinary people, but in front of Deadpool, his advantage seemed to diminish. Deadpool's ability to heal swiftly secured him a place on invincible ground.

However, Aiden's expertise as a level 6 combat master meant he didn't fear any close combatants in this world.

For a moment, the gloomy factory became the stage for a clash between two top-tier warriors, their battle so thrilling it sent adrenaline pumping. Unfortunately, Nicole didn't share the enthusiasm.

"Hey! Stop!" Nicole frowned as the situation unfolded. Although Aiden had essentially saved Wade's life, he had also genuinely hurt Wade's emotions in the process.

Nicole could understand Wade's outburst. On the other hand, she was concerned for Aiden. She didn't want to see him harmed. To Nicole, Aiden was the young man who had pulled her out of the mire, giving her a new life and a new world. She revered and protected him, even though she didn't always show it.

Nicole stepped forward, placing herself between Aiden and Wade. Wade's disgustingly skinned right fist halted before Nicole's face, while Aiden's exquisitely heavy metal arm stopped behind Nicole's head.

Wade harbored complex feelings towards Nicole, not in a romantic sense, of course.

During the half-month of cruel torture, Aiden was undeniably the demon among demons. Conversely, Nicole, who cared for Wade, washed his body, cleaned his wounds, and fed him, became an angelic figure in Wade's eyes.

Though this angel was cold and mute, her silence in response to his teasing... That tall figure, fair skin, golden hair, and enchanting features. Wade had long since imagined wings on Nicole's back, aligning her image with biblical characters.

Deep down, Wade might have known Aiden saved him, his life, his emotions, his family. But on a superficial level, Aiden and Nicole represented two extremes: heaven and hell, angels and demons. Even in his rage, Wade found it impossible to strike.

"Calm down." Nicole's eyes flashed with anger. "What are you doing?"

"Finally, I hear your voice, and it's at such a time," Wade raised his hands, seemingly displeased with Nicole. Then, he glared at Aiden and continued, "Kid, you've got some moves, huh? Next time you self-indulge with your left hand, remember to use lube."

Meanwhile, the sound of the iron door unlocking came from outside, followed by Vanessa's loud call, "Hurry up, you baldy, hurry!" She was the one Aiden had sent Mike to fetch.

The chaos around them was evidence of what had transpired. Anything that could be grabbed had become a weapon, flung at each other in a frenzy, the noise alarming Vanessa as she approached the work area.

"Oh God, it's her." Wade panicked. From the moment he transformed in the oxygen chamber, he saw the reflection of his body and knew how ugly he had become.

Aiden's earlier warning of disfigurement was no joke.

Wade became even more frantic, "Don't open the door, damn it. What's that? Everyone will love me?"

Wade's crazed behavior again made Aiden wonder if there was another voice in his head. Or perhaps, it was just the character setup that made Wade speak such words.

"What's wrong with him? Please tell me he's okay," Vanessa begged, her face streaked with tears, clutching Aiden's clothing.

"He's fine, cancer's cured. In fact, he's healed everything. Shoot him in the heart now, and he'd heal instantly. In other words, ma'am, your Wade has become immortal; you couldn't kill him if you tried." Aiden stepped aside, nodding towards the compartment.

Wade was quick to hide but couldn't escape in such a confined space.

Nicole looked at Aiden in surprise. She believed Wade was healed, based on the vital signs, but the notion of an "undying body" was beyond her comprehension.

Aiden was flabbergasted. Curing terminal cancer was one thing, but immortality? Mutants were synonymous with miracles.

"Is this true? Really?" Vanessa cried tears of joy, rushing into the compartment. Wade was alive!

"Wade? Wade?" she called out, cautiously navigating the medical debris, until she found Wade, bashfully facing the wall, too ashamed to look at Vanessa.

"Wade, you?" Vanessa saw the man she wanted to see, but the skin he bore was different from her former boyfriend's.

"Alright, I don't know how this scene is supposed to play out, but I doubt she can handle this face," Wade spoke as if to someone else, then braced himself to face his dream girl.

Vanessa was stunned. After a full ten seconds, she managed only a shocked, "Wow! Oh!"

"That devil did this to me," Wade said like a child blaming Aiden for stolen candy.

An hour later.

In the factory's makeshift dining room, Aiden and Wade sat on the couch, watching Vanessa and Nicole prepare dinner in the kitchen.

Wade started by glaring at Aiden but after 20 minutes, his gaze fixed on Vanessa and never left.

Occasionally, Nicole peeked at the two in the living room, ensuring peace before returning to her tasks.

Meanwhile, Aiden pondered over the four new Light Orbs he had acquired, adding to his original one. It was time to consider how to allocate his skill points.

Aiden debated whether to invest these valuable orbs in "Magic Defense" or "Physical Defense." Increasing physical defense would significantly boost his survival rate, but magic defense could free him from Hydra's control sooner and was crucial in a world of mutants. If a psychic mutant appeared before him, Aiden's mind would be an open book, his memory and thoughts laid bare.

What was Aiden's most valuable asset? Perhaps not the template, but his foresight into the future. If his mind were read, Aiden couldn't fathom the horrors that might ensue.

After much hesitation, Aiden refrained from allocating points. He desired both physical and magic defense, but five Light Orbs would only suffice for two levels in magic defense or one in physical. It seemed best to save them for a crisis.

Another dilemma was whether to gamble one Light Orb on a treasure chest. The high probability of obtaining something valuable was an irresistible lure for Aiden.
