Chapter 22: Friends & Rivals

"Next time I won't be there to save your ass again!" And just like this, she left, leaving Mo Fan all alone.

The next morning, at Yang Kai's hut.

"Mixing them like this shouldn't go wrong..." a blue-haired kid wondered while casually throwing a bunch of herbs inside of a golden incense burner.

"Now, the only thing that remains to do is to close the incense up and then, according to the black book, it should theoretically s-" Yang Kai was saying before a familiar voice, calling him out, interrupted him. "Ohi, Yang Kai!"

"I know that you came back from your little trip, I can sense your presence, so you better come out!" Mo Fan yelled from the outside of the hut.

"Sigh...yeah, yeah, just give me a second, Mo Fan," Yang Kai said, immediately storing the golden incense burner inside of a mysterious black book and heading out. He couldn't wait to show the golden-haired kid who the strongest was.

They were now standing one in front of the other, only ten meters separating them.

"Mo Fan, I hope that you've got stronger while I was away or you'll find yourself with the butt on the ground after this spar."

"Don't worry, Yang Kai, you'll learn about my strength when this fist of mine will break all of your teeth," the golden-haired kid said before rushing to the blue-haired one and instantly throwing a roundhouse kick to his face.

Yang Kai immediately protected himself from his best friend's attack with his forearms, but the sheer force of the kick was so much that he was pushed back a little anyway. "Such strength! Even with my Unyelding Golden Skeleton i still felt it!"

Yang Kai didn't even have time to think about the next move that another attack was coming at him: a punch.

Fortunately for him, his reflexes helped him and so he was able to dodge it by stepping back, but, since Mo Fan's attacks didn't obviously stop there, he was forced to back up quite a lot more.

After a while, Yang Kai had backed up so much that his back was about to touch his hut's wall, and so he evaded, by moving sideways, Mo Fan's fist, making this land on the hut and breaking through its wooden wall. "Sorry, Yang Kai! I'll promise that I'll fix it later!"

The golden-haired kid then tried to took his hand off the wall as quickly as possible but it still wasn't fast enough as Yang Kai's fist hit his face, sending him flying away. "What is this dishuman strength? I had my doubts before but now I'm really starting to think that his body is made of steel!"

After quickly shutting his thoughts off, Mo Fan immediately attached his feet to the ground and turned his head towards Yang Kai to get a hold of him, but he only ended up receiving another punch on his face, this time not flying away as his reflexes had luckily permitted him to use the Qi Defense Principle in time, thus taking much less damage from the attack.

"Hey, Yang Kai, did you seriously think I would go down this easily?" The golden-haired kid said, instantly grabbing the blue-haired guy's wrist before this could retract his arm, and then threw him away. "Remember that our spar's win count is 49-50 in my favor!"

Now the distance was widening and Mo Fan strangely wasn't trying to shorten it, he just stood there instead, waiting for Yang Kai to get up. "Hey, bro, why don't we start using all of our strength now? I know that you are stronger than this."

"Yes, you're right, I'll now show you what strength really is," Yang Kai said, then vanished, only to reappeared an instant later near the golden-haired kid.

"So fast!" Mo Fan thought before blocking each one of Yang Kai's incurring attacks with difficulty.

"Who would have thought we would have become this strong in just a couple of days, Mo Fan?" Yang Kai said while continuing to attack. "We were the weakest of the weak only a week ago and now look at us, as strong as those cultivation prodigies that always used to ridiculize us..."

"Well, yes, we definitely improved, but I don't think that this is the right time for us to chat, is it?" The golden-haired kid responded while keeping to block all of his best friend's strikes.

"Yes, so why don't we put all of our strength into a final last strike?" Yang Kai proposed as he abruptly halted his barrage of punches and stepped back slightly as to create more distance between himself and his opponent.

"Well, I like this idea of yours," Mo Fan remarked, immediately taking a battle stance. "So, let's see who the strongest beetwen us is!"

"Yes, let's see who the strongest is!" And after exchanging words, the two youths charged at each other, both of them attacking with a palm strike.

"White & Black Crane Arts: Everlasting Palm!"

"Six Palms Art: Golden Palm!"

Their palms clashed, and since the strength of Mo Fan's strike was equal to Yang Kai's thanks to the former using the Qi Wave Principle, the collision resulted in a huge, massive shockwave that propelled the two youths away.

They both tumbled to the ground, their faces turned towards the sky. "Yang Kai, do you think that we'll ever become strong enough to reach and touch the stars?"

"Again with that stupid dream of yours, Mo Fan? How did it even pass through your head now that it's daytime and you can't even see them?"

"Nothing, my mother just came to my mind and then I remembered how she always used to call me her little star..."

After hearing Mo Fan's words, Yang Kai immediately got with his back up. "Mo Fan, don't worry, we'll be able to touch them one day, I promise you!"

And then the golden-haired guy did the same, "Thanks, Yang Kai, I really appreciate it."

"Let's become strong!"

"Together!"

Also I named the techniques that Mo Fan created: Qi Wave Principle for the one that boosts his attacks and Qi Defense Principle for the one that boosts his defense.
